It's a weird balance of power. For most folks, Marion and Chilhowie is a friendly, almost sibling like rivalry, although for some folks it's very personal. Northwood HATES Chilhowie, whereas most Chilhowie folks don't even consider the Panthers to be in the same stratosphere as Marion in regards to a rivalry. And then you've got Marion/Northwood which is really only a rivalry by technicality. Marion had a pretty healthy rivalry with R.B. Worthy/Saltville many, many moons ago, but they rarely played Rich Valley past 1970 and had a very happy relationship with the Steers. In fact, it's not unusual to see groups of Rich Valley alumns at Marion for football games rather than Northwood, because 30 years later, they still haven't accepted consolidation and would rather cheer for Marion than a "Saltville team."
As a Rich Valley/Northwood guy he is pretty well spot on! I am one of the HATES chilhowie people. I am really conflicted about this game, on one hand my Godson is a Senior for chilhowie on the other I can't recall a time that I have EVER rooted for them to win. (didn't want Galax to win either) I guess I will do as I did last week, not attend the game and pull for the other team, to not win.
This is where I am going Friday night. Hoping to see a good one at least and a PH win. I never would have imagined that Norton could've turned a 27 point loss into a 5 point win in just over a few weeks time, but as much as I hate Jimbo, he can coach. I think PH wins, but it's going to be a squeaker I think.
You will have to look me up. We will be sitting on the PH side first section about 1/2 way up. I'll be there watching one of my Great Nephews play.

I can only assume you are talking about state titles? If so you have forgotten that Tazewell has won one also. If that is what you are talking about "GC has won before, so that's not possible" , you would be wrong. It is possible!
Also sometimes at the JV level kids are a year or two older, which is a big deal in maturity and other things at that age level, as opposed to once they become older.
Sometimes you have schools that only have 28-30 kids on the team and don't have enough to make a JV team.

I know a S#IT load of schools that would be more than happy to have this type of record over the last 16 seasons and total for the history of the school. Playing for 3 state titles and winning 2 in that time span, and y'all screaming win now, the coach doesn't know what he's doing or he doesn't listen to the other coaches (y'all said the same thing about Houseright), acting like Houseright was the second coming of Fry, they forced him out. Come on give me a break bunch of spoiled winners (and whiners). Yes losing sucks especially if you're not used to it, but I see no 0-10 seasons. A few "down" years are bound to happen at some point. Maybe, just maybe it's just the well starting to dry up talent wise and has little to do with the coaching?
