After what I seen today I do think that Union, Graham, or even Glenvar could’ve walked away with the trophy had they played Riverheads. Really shocked that they beat Central and Poquoson as bad as they did.
Yeah either of the 3 very well could have beaten Riverheads in the final.
Turns out the state championship was against Glenvar 2 weeks earlier since no other team in the state has played within 2 scores of them other than Glenvar.
Totally forgot about that yeah. Glenvar played them best.
After seeing Radford play and then watching video of Riverheads playing I gotta go with Riverheads. What I see is the ability to drive 4 and 5 yards at a time taking lots of time off the clock. Another thing I notice is that their offensive line seems to wear down the opposing defense as the game goes on - this leads to bigger plays in the 2nd half and allows them to pull away.
1st half will be even probably tied up heading into half. 2nd half Riverheads begins to wear down the defense and one mistake by Radford allows Riverheads to jump ahead- Riverheads 35 Radford 29
Losing 13 seniors, the entire starting backfield, the secondary, both ends, the kicker, the punter, the center etc etc.....yeah, a rebuild might be an understatement.
Ouch did not know this. Could be a very very long season then.
5 points---Shane Allen, Galax. Rough start against a powerhouse schedule, but everybody said you can never count out Galax, and you still can't. 4 points---Zane Quesenberry, Ft. Chiswell. First year had coach. won more games than Fort has won the last few seasons combined. Made play-offs and pulled off what some called a 1st round upset, at least seeding wise. good job. 3 points---Brandon Harner, George Wythe. Lost a lot of key players from a 1A state runner-up team, but still competed with the big dawgs of 1A as his team seemed to get better as the season went on. 2 points---Scott Mikowicz, Auburn. first year head coach taking over a really struggling program. Broke the team's seasons long winless streak by not only winning 2 games, but won those games in back to back weeks for a little 2 game winning streak with the 2nd one against hated cross county rivals E.Mont. This program hasn't been able to complete a schedule for the last couple years due to lack of players. He had enough players to play all 10 games with no cancellations or forfeits. Hope that's a good sign for the program. 1 point---Stephen James, Grayson Co. Preseason favorites from most around here to win region C and a good bet to be playing in Salem for the west. Had a fine regular season to finish 9-1, but struggled in both play-off games and finished getting shut out by a team they beat in regular season. I personally think James has a lot of his guys practicing year round, so maybe they were as good in week 1 as they were going to be, as other teams got better as the season went on. 0 points---Jeff Williams, Giles. My version of a participation trophy for the Spartan coach. Sad what's going on over there. I could go full "Animal House" and give him a Double Secret 0"
Definitely agree with this especially - Jeff Williams getting 0 - that program is in shambles over there.
Who you got? Has Riverheads seen a pass happy team like Radford this year? Radford has a clear advantage with speed and fly's to the ball on defense. Can Radford slow down CCC? Can Riverheads slow down the Radford passing attack?
Radford usually runs away from opponents in the 2nd half. If they come out and drive down the field and score I am confident Radford wins. Graham stops then and scores themselves then I am going with Graham.
I think Graham would have a better chance with their run defense but Riverheads is a team on a mission right now and they’re not slowing down for anyone
Agree. Radford is too one dimensional and Graham just seems to be their own worst enemy - way too many penalties.
