  1. I read some of that fluff, and I now feel dirty, and just not at sharp...The Gate will be great again and things will be good in a few years.. We will be back becuse we are destined to be back. I sense your anger and frustration , No need to be upset.
  2. Good post, and especially the first sentence. That sentence is more applicable to you. If defending my team is "pissing people off," then hopefully people won't be so sensitive. If pissing people off (and I'm not, you are just angry that my opinion is different from yours) is a premise that says....GC has been great for a long time, and we will be good again because we have the ability, and will get a solid proven coach and turn it around, then so be it. Be "pissed" off. My opinion is one I stand by, and that's really the only premise I've had about GC in all of these discussions. Fact is, you would "feel better" if I told you, GC can't get a coach and we are done for and it's over for 20 years<and that's where the stupidity is (to use your word). Of course, you wouldn't be pissed off if that were the case, but again, the truth hurts, and the Gate will be Great again. Is it really that "abrasive" of someone having the opinion we will be fine and will get a solid proven coach and be very good in the future? Does is really bother you that much that someone has a different opinion of yours? Like I wrote, lots of underlying distaste for the Gate by many (not all) but many fans LONG before these discussions started, and as for making people hate my team you say? I couldn't care less how you "feel" about GC. That's irrelevant to me. What's relevant is....we get back on the right track with our football program and thankfully, hundreds of GC fan's want that and are trying to make that happen, and it will happen.
  3. LOL, looks like some of you got your piggy tails pulled and are a bit sensitive when the truth hits home. Fact is, some (not all) but some of the posts as I eluded to earlier are in fact, motivated with jealousy, dislike, and hatred for Gate City. That's a fact that any reasonable human can deduce from reading this thread and others. As for who Gate City gets, or who they can get, or who they can't get, etc. That could be debated for days, weeks, and months as it's only opinions and no clear cut way to know. But, "screaming, being loud, multiple shouts" or saying it over and over that "Gate City can't get a proven winner," does Not make it true. Hopefully, it reinforces your own "wishes" by repeating it, but it still, does not make it true. The Gate......will come out great like always. Why? That's who Gate City is.........a pre-selected winner by whoever one wishes to believe is in charge of the selecting.
  4. "Oh I for sure dislike GC football, GC athletics in general. Although I have personally enjoyed this season (along with many many other football fans from around SWVA." Glad you were a big-boy and able to admit that. I don't dislike your team though. Why? I just don't take ya serious enough. I guess that's the product of winning and winning for many years. You don't develop enough of an emotional attachment to care very much about the rest. I don't have that jealousy and hatred. Thankfully, I played at GC, so those emotions aren't there regarding wishing other teams to actually lose or not be successful. "My perspective on the fan base does come mostly from this board but I have acquaintances that are GC supporters and one on staff(great guy, sorry he's had to deal with this season)." Ok, so the sample size goes from 0.3 to 0.4% of what the GC fanbase "thinks" in your opinion. LOL. Brilliant. "You're talking about searching for a coach from TN, GA, NC, WV... why would anyone from those places come to SWVA (or NET since GC is so close) without ties here?" The reasons were given in the previous thread. Great tradition, great history of winning, small town in Appalachia located near Tric-cities, and the very fact that the recent coach went 0-10 is a huge plus for getting a coach. GC has far, far more connections that perhaps 75% or more of folks on this board realize, to include former players at different places coaching, and those who coached under them, etc. We have large, large amounts of ties, and no, I'm not talking about Colobro, lol. "For a small school program that just ran off a coach after 2 years" <----False. That's your OPINION of what happened with the words, "ran off". Akers running himself off would be the majority opinion. "I just don't see it. " Again, your opinion, but I suspect it's more your WISH than it is opinion. "And to to top it off, stating that jealousy or hate is why others posting in this thread disagree with you is laughable." For starters, a little bit of fallacy in there when you wrote the words, "why others posting" as if to include every single poster who has ever commented about the situation. I stated in my post, the words, "some posters." I didn't use or write the words, "all posters." Notice the difference? Your attempt to distort my words by use of fallacy was just noticed and called out. I also stand by that. The thought that someone such as yourself is "neutral" or only "posting out of concern for the situation" or a "like for High School Football" is an absolute joke and what's truly laughable. You and some (keyword is some) others post in GC threads because they are bitter, angry, jealous as those beatings over the years and jealous of GC's past success. It's why UVAObserver chimes in. Do you really think he'll ever let that 70-0 beating go? Of course not, at least until the favor is returned. Most fans certainly can let it go, but some can't, and the majority (not all) of those posting in these GC threads are haters, and you have absolutely no one fooled, no matter how much you think you do.
  5. And I respect your opinion.
  6. I respect the above opinions but disagree. Most of these are your assumptions (opinions) of what the GC fanbase "thinks." We disagree some on fanbase perspective. As for getting a proven winner at HC, the search area shouldn't be isolated to SWVA as one poster pointed out. That search should include all of VA, WV, Tenn, NC, SC, GA, etc. For those that feel a proven winner wouldn't leave his position for GC, we again disagree. Most coaches across the USA are likely happy where they are at, but some would leave, and no matter how bad some of you hate us (which is really the underlying purpose of some of your posts) our program has tradition and a history of winning and great fan support, and we in fact, can get a proven winner. This is why its called a "search." As for Akers, I didn't like the hire. He wasnt proven enough for me. I think he's a very good person though. I was content with Houseright. Loved the man at coach. Understand that of all GC football fans, perhaps 0.3 percent at most post on this board. In summary, your have no clue or concept what the majority of the fanbase thinks. To assume so is ignorance, but some of the posts on here (not all, but some) are based in hatred and jealousy, not rational thought or true discussion. GC will be fine in football again and we will compete for state titles again in football in short time. The sky isn't falling for the Gate (no matter how bad or how hard some of you wish it were.)
  7. Brilliant, absolutely brilliant insight. Did you come up with all 3 "blah's" yourself? Well done, you creative thinking fan. I bet they let you vote don't they? As for Jarheads post, it was a good one and very informative, but I disagree with some of my fellow Great City brethren on one thing. We absolutely do not need a coach with ties to or having a GC background. It would be nice, but should not be a prerequisite. Because Akers is not from GC doesn't equate to the problem automatically being, "because he's not tied to GC, he has struggled." That has no relevance to his success or lack of success. Get a proven, sharp coach with the next hire and go for that, and if ties to GC, then great, but if not, that's OK. If we get a guy with GC ties, that doesn't automatically mean success. If we get a guy with no ties to GC, that doesn't automatically equal lack of success. The goal should be....get a solid, proven coach, and our status, tradition, and history still allows us to do that (no matter how many opposing fans choose to not believe it.)
  8. I'm rooting for Abingdon because of their HC of which I admire and respect, but Union wins by 2 TD's. Abingdon is not as good this year as they last 2-3 years. People are looking for the upset with Union on the road, etc. It's not going to happen. Union by 2 TD's.
  9. Central will win by 7 pts. It will be our closest game yet. But, for the first time in the history of Gate City High School that was built in 1956, we go "Defeated" on the season. If you can't go Undefeated, then might as well go Defeated. I'm just glad we didn't lose by 70 points to an opponent this year, considering this is our worst in school history. I can't imagine losing by 70 points to a team, but I can imagine winning by that much.
  10. I think Appo is the favorite throughout the state, not just Region C. Giles and Glenvar are also in Region C to give them a game or go of it.
  11. According to Bluefield paper, Graham had 3 turnovers and Giles had 2. Giles had 50 yds in penalites to Graham's 15 yards. Giles had 342 yds offense to Graham's 304. Giles rushed for 270 on Graham. Graham was up on Richlands early last year in the playoffs. I don't think they let up. Graham went up 14-0, then Giles scored. Graham wasn't up 21-0. Great game for the G-Men to win, but I like Giles on a neutral field. The 2 will never play again this yr though because Giles is in Appomattox's region.
  12. At home in OT. They didn't play on a neutral field and they didn't play at Giles. Pretty good sign for a visiting team to take it to OT on the road.
  13. 1. Giles 2. Bluefield 3. Union 4. Graham 5. Pulaski 6. Galax 7. Marion 8. Ridgeview 9. Fort Chiswell 10. George Wythe
  14. Case thrown out. No jurisdiction by you or UVA observer to argue in this court room. Keyword-Jursidiction or more precise, "you knoweth nothing about what you speaketh." As for Gate City this year, the record is not good and the program is down, but that has zero relevance to Gate City supposedly "cursing the opponents and fans sitting on their opponents sideline is having it handed back to them." It sounds to me like Gate City pulled your piggy tails a time or two. As for Gate City, who is to blame is the AD and the Head Coach, and those two will be corrected after next season. The AD will not last another year, and Akers will have one more year. I love the fallacy which is, "because Gate City is down this year, and because GC has won for a long time, they deserve it." <----yes, that's actually our argument. As for Putin, I will take him over Obama. Not a bad guy in my opinion. Putin and ISIS aren't the same. As a matter of fact, ISIS is all but about done because of Putin and the Russians. Oh yea, "geesh, give it a break."
  15. Watched Tazewell twice that year. Against GC in which Tazewell outplayed the Gate worse than final score in my opinion. I watched the Bulldogs lose to Richlands in the playoffs later that year in a game in which I thought the Bulldogs should have won and actually outplayed the Blues in.
  16. I certainly don't like the sound of that.
  17. I believe that would have been 2008, 30-20 or 28-17 in favor of Tazewell. My nephew was on that GC team. It was his sophomore year.
  18. I just told you. I would be a Gate City guy, and lets say I went to school my senior year of High School at Rye Cove or Twin Springs, then I would also be a Rye Cove or Twin Springs guy. Just my take on it.
  19. Good question and a pretty solid answer as well. I would be loyal to BOTH. I would be a Pocahontas guy and a Tazewell guy. I can tell you this, I wasn't a Sullivan County guy even though I lived there while in HS at GC. But, this is just my take. I respect whatever decision a person makes as to who they support in that situation. It's their call. It's their life. I have my opinion only, just as others have theirs.
  20. Yes, he has said on here plenty of times before that he's not a supporter of Tazewell. What makes it interesting is when you write about 4 posts ago the words, "but I think plenty of kids (EH31 included) went to Tazewell." It seems to me that one would support their school, or the one they attended. Me not supporting Gate City would be freaking blaspheme.
  21. That I will do. I've read much about Saltville and had ancestors fight in that battle during the Civil War. Also, I'm still partial to the old Shakers of Saltville which no longer exists of course, but I still pay attention to Northwood because we had a special coach down this way that put in some time up at Worthy High many, many moons ago.
  22. Ahhh, closest to Graham, but went to Tazewell. That makes no sense in one regard unless the driving time is closer to Tazewell, and it makes perfect sense in another regard as to EH31 and Tazewell love. Now I understanding why he is so sensitive with the Bulldogs. Makes sense. I respect that.
  23. Never claimed to. My wife reminds me of that everyday. I only claim to know one thing. I love Gate City football and rabidly defend it. You see, if one is "portrayed" as "knowing everything", then it's easier to attempt to tear them down. I know Gate City football, family, and moving coal. Those 3, I do almost everything about. Other than that.....not much. But....I got opinions and if asked, will give them.
  24. Where did the kids go in Tazewell County? Richlands, Graham, Tazewell? Where's it closest to?
  25. Because I don't believe anything the guys says after he name-calls for about 10 straight posts. I had Never heard of "Pocahontas." I thought he was directly lying to me because I would have heard of it, if it were in Southwestern Virginia. Evidently, there was a school in Southwestern Virginia that I had never heard of.
