"Stupid ingrates." This would be hyperbole and your words, not mine. You gave "Doug" time in my opinion because a significant portion of your fans or one's with a loud voice allowed it to happen, and that was not being very smart compared to "classy program." We disagree on the matter. Just you like you feel GC is showing lack of class by wanting a change, I respect it, but disagree. We are very classy, but smarter, and we have been better because of those smarts.
GC's future is fine. Interest in little leagues is down BECAUSE of the AD and coach. We have had little leagues struggle before and our junior high has struggled some, only to do very well at the High School level. GC is loaded with talent and trust me, there is talent walking the halls of GC at both the junior high and high school levels. With that written, could we have a drought? Sure we could. All programs experience such. We disagree a bit on the long, painful and protracted part.
Yes talent is walking the halls, unfortunately they are excelling in other sports to the point their families have decided their focus should be narrowed. McClung is undoubtedly the best athlete in the school. It doesn't matter who the HC is the kid ain't playing football. I know I know, kids have always played multiple sports. Well not anymore. Take McClung or some of the other basketball boys- if they think they can get scholarships on basketball do you really think their parents are putting them on the football field? Imagine the FB team with the basketball starters. Different team.
Maybe someone could inquire as to why he (Roberts) was allowed to continually slander Gary Collier with ridiculous allegations that he verbally abused players. Additionally, one might inquire as to why, when Mr. Akers put Nick Colobro, Jr's name on his list of requested coaches (NC Jr. being a tenured teacher & current coach) in 2016, he (Roberts) responded by writing a letter to his friend(s) on the school board insulting and demeaning NC Jr. to the point that he (NC Jr.) left the school system entirely. Lastly, perhaps there is an explanation as to why Mr. Roberts repeatedly attempted to sabotage the recruitment of stand out student athlete Hunter Collier, going as far as to hang up on coaches \ recruiters when they attempted to contact the GC athletic department via telephone. It would be quite the scandal if it were to be made public that Mr. Roberts attempted to negatively effect a student's chances for a scholarship due to a personal grudge against a fellow coach that happened to replace him on Bill Houseright's staff in 2011. In my opinion the parents and students of GCHS deserve answers to these questions, among others.
Considering Gary Collier is a cop I'm sure if either of those had the smallest amount do legal merit they would have been "released" as a public scandal, not an anonymous message board "leak" after the fact.
The NC Jr thing sounds harsh. he would have been an asset. Does school board take the ADs voice above all else?
If he hung up on recruiters or did anything at all to negatively impact a students future- that's flat out horrible. But if I was recruiting unions #82 it wouldn't matter who hung up on me, I'd find him. Id call administration, coaches, school board, his family. If one person hangs up on me I wouldn't write him off...
I agree with you on the Parmesan. Don't know about the whole state title thing. I'm hoping to Gosh GC isn't doing the Tazewell thing. I have heard that mentioned before and it scares the heck of out me and I'm serious. I hope it doesn't pan out that way. Either way, I am going to be there and support the kids and big blue. You know what is scary? The scary part not just for me, but I think deep down for most GC fans is worrying about a talent issue. We want so badly to believe it's the system or the coach or this variable or that variable, but deep down, we know that if the problem truly is a talent thing, then it's a much harder problem and long term problem requiring fixing. Well, at least that's my worries. Either way, good luck to your G-Men the rest of the way who will not need it. I watched them down here and it's pretty obvious, they are much better than us. I will be rooting for Graham come playoff time assuming they come out of SWVA. I think the G-Men are better than Richlands and Giles and Union this year.
Of course it's talent. I don't condone blasting kids on here, I don't think it's right. But in your mind think of the best players on GC... then think of the best players on some of the teams they play. I guarantee GC boys work harder than any other team they just lack the athleticism.
Some sandwich man said who a few of the posters were, got blocked, made a new user, posted again, got blocked again. I'm sure there are tons of screen shots around. Also said they're making GC look like fools on the message board. Basically all info everyone already knew.
Foolishness. You think GC never went to 7on 7s before Akers? That's just comically inaccurate. As far as 2 players benching 225... 68, 45, 61, 54, 55, 40, 71, and 50 were all over 225 in prior to Akers getting hired. Probably more that I'm not aware of.
Where are these stats listed? Seems pretty detailed for an avg fan to know. Did you coach last year?
Seems to me that y'all really don't want to vet a coach as much as you want the applicant who was rejected to have the job. That plays into the already ongoing narrative of Houseright supporters vs. the folks who wanted a HC from outside the system. Folks from both camps seem overly biased to me.
Sad to say a lot of Blue Devils live in the past. They think if they bring back the same names they'll have the same results. They need to look at the field during the games and see the lack of talent. If they run off this guy it's goin to be hard to talk a new sensible person to come in there. Yes, new person. I think most fans are tired of the weird incest coaching some of you guys want.
