  1. I would agree that the trip was missed as well, and that was a terrible flop. But you can't see a kid slide on his stomach that far with the ball and not call a travel. Maybe they didn't call the travel because they weren't going to reward the flop. Who knows? But one thing is for certain, refs aren't that great in SWVA basketball.
  2. I wondered the same thing. Horrible non call.
  3. You mean the TSSAA refs weren't catering to Dotson? 😂
  4. The only struggle was watching the entire game. Both teams were very sloppy with the ball. Going in I thought Ridgeview would win because I figured Abingdons coach would get in their way, but I guess I was wrong.
  5. I don't either. I was being sarcastic since they recruit pretty much anyone with a pulse in SWVA. Their JV is the Central War-Bears as it is
  6. She is definitely being wasted at Abingdon. She will be at Central next year
  7. Will she be eligible to play immediately? Didn’t know how it worked since she’s transferring from a Wise County school to a Norton City school
  8. You are correct. In 1988, Appy beat both Pennington and Jonesville. They beat Jonesville in the first game of the season and then beat Pennington a few weeks later. I believe the score was 12-7. I remember it being less than a touchdown. Pennington lost to Gate City in week 3 and then Appy in week 4, and then won 10 in a row before losing to Lexington in the state semifinals.
  9. Lee beat Hancock County in the season opener. Lost to Abingdon and Ridgeview in district play. Then led Twin Springs for the majority of the game this past Friday but lost the lead in the 4th and couldn't recover.
  10. This! These are my thoughts exactly. One of the reasons Lee hung around with Abingdon so long this past week was that Trivette guarded Hammonds the entire game, and Trivette just isn’t quick enough to do that for 32 minutes. So Hammonds would blow past her and get to the hoop. In my opinion, Abingdon has the best player in the M7, Central has the best starting 5, and Ridgeview has the best overall team 1 thru 10. Central will win the district again because of their starters. Then the district tournament will be held at Central, and nobody is going to beat them there because of the way it will be officiated.
  11. Fun night of basketball in the Mountain 7. Home teams should prevail on both the boys and girls side with the exception of Central boys. But I wouldn't be completely surprised if they pulled out the win as well.
  12. Everybody has been owned by Robin Dotson lol. Lee should have won two games at the Wise tournament, but they couldn't hit shots and didn't defend well. Since then, the defensive intensity has ramped up a little and shots have started to fall. Still a very young team with Hammonds being the only senior. 2 juniors, 4 sophomores, and 3 freshmen make up the rest of the squad. Our lack of size really hurts us. But the girls hustle and play hard.
  13. Definitely agree with you about the Mountain 7. On the girls side, I thought Abingdon would be the top team at the start of the season due to Trivette, but after watching them play in the Wise tournament and then again against Lee, I feel like they will be 3rd. Coaching will hold them back. Union and Gate City will battle for 4th and 5th. As long as Lee shoots the ball well, we can definitely finish 6th and possibly steal one from either Gate City or Union. Told my daughter before the game with Abingdon that if they held it under 30, then that would be considered a win. Definitely wasn’t expecting an 81-67 final. With the size mismatch, Trivette should have had 40+
  14. Nobody from the western end of Lee County was interested in any type of change, especially one that would close Thomas Walker. That was it wasn't in the cards when Lee High was created in the late 80s. There was a proposal similar to what you suggested, but it was shot down quickly from that end of the county.
  15. If you don't think kids don't have to get babied at other schools, then you have your head in the sand. It's definitely not something that pertains to only Lee County schools. Robin Dotson has to baby his star player because daddy wants her to set the VHSL scoring record, and he is the most successful girls basketball coach in SWVA. Numerous examples of that throughout all of SWVA, on both the girls and boys side. Also, there is no way in the world Lee County could be the business center of SWVA. Just because land is available doesn't mean that it could be developed for business use. Farm land and mountains doesn't equal business boom.
  16. Abingdon, Ridgeview, and Gate City on the boys side. Abingdon, Ridgeview, and Central on the girls side.
  17. I agree with you 100%. When Greene and Baker both picked up their third foul, I told my wife it was over because the refs would send Central to the line as many times as it took to win lol. Don't understand why Abingdon's coach took Trivette off of McAmis in the second half. She held her to 7 points in the first half and McAmis looked rattled. I know McAmis was the MVP, but Trivette was the best player in the tournament.
  18. I agree with that. The officiating was terrible in the championship game. After the first quarter, Dotson was in the ear of the officials almost every trip down the court. Between that and Abingdon's poor coaching, Central was pretty much gifted that trophy
  19. That's what I said. I just don't think they will be in the mix for the district title. But they are 3rd for sure. It should be tiered like this: Abingdon/Central Ridgeview Union/Gate City Batte/Lee
  20. Don't think it will be a 3 way battle. I think it's Central and Abingdon on their own level, then Ridgeview, Union, Gate City, Battle, and Lee. Not knowing what Battle has, Lee could flip with them. If Abingdon's coach could get out of his own way, they would win the district crown.
  21. Our girls team lacks size. Got rolling in the second half and cruised to victory. We will go as far as our 3 point shooting will take us. Well, that and our transition game. Boys looked better than I expected. Pendergraft had 36 I think. They all hustled and played physical.
  22. Lee played Hancock County last night. Lee girls won 49-28 and Lee boys won 62-51
