  1. To to inject a little humor into this topic, If auburn, Bland and Craig all ended their football programs, you would be putting enormous pressure on the AD at Narrows to find 3 more regular season cupcakes to continue their impressive string of regular season successes
  2. Agree, but\you can't put all the blame on Auburn. Craig and Bland both cancelled games on Auburn last year. With Schedules made as much as 2 years in advance, No great solutions.
  3. football still brings in money. Even in the last few years, you go to a home Auburn game, and the home side stands are full. The people of Riner support their sports programs, the good, the bad and even the ugly. Now the big challenge is to try to insure you can get those 5 or 6 home games per year
  4. time will tell. I saw them go from a 30 game losing streak to back to back winning seasons. Not only making the playoffs those years, but huge first round upset road wins against Chilhowie and Wytheville. So, it can be done there.
  5. probably going to take a local guy that's committed to staying and implementing at least a 5 year plan. Get participation numbers up, work with middle school and youth programs as much as possible. I've seen first hand the overwhelming student and community support for that program when they started getting it turned around awhile back. I think the last guy, not being from the area, saw what Auburn was doing in all other sports, and thought he could come in and just flip a switch on the football program and turn in on, turn it up, and watch it go. admired his enthusiasm, but reality was kind of cruel.
  6. VA Preps board says Auburn football HC job is open
  7. somebody on VAPreps has Allegheny #5 and Floyd #6
  8. If I counted right, JR only had 19 players dressed last week for the Giles game. Very poor varsity numbers or a 2A team.
  9. Most of you entered your last year knowing this wasn't going to be a championship season. In reality, you knew the victories and celebrations, would be few. But you still gave all you had. I truly respect your hard work, blood, sweat, tears, and dedication. Most of you were just nameless, faceless, numbers on a jersey. So to the handful of you I know, and the hundreds of others I had the pleasure of watching, thanks again for giving this old high school football junkie another enjoyable season. You will remember these days as some of the best of your life.
  10. OK. But my reasoning for being against punishments or penalties, of any kind, on schools that have to cancel games and seasons is this, schedules are made 1 to 2 years in advance. I bet 90% of schools already have their 2023/2024 schedules done and done. At schools like Bland and Craig, A coach, AD, Principle, or whoever, has to get a schedule in place, not knowing for sure they will be able to field a team. They're hoping for the best, but really no way to safeguard against the worst.
  11. Don't really see how penalties, financial or otherwise, helps struggling programs. Several teams would probably just fold their programs and say why bother. But I see your reasoning.
  12. Say the VHSL mandated that week 8 of each season, be every schools bye week. On that week, any team that had a game cancelled on them, or have one coming up, should have no problem finding a replacement game. What say you?
  13. problem I see with rule #2 is, you might as well tell a sophomore or junior thinking about playing football next year, don't bother. Can't see how that can help out a struggling program.
  14. heard their JV team picked up a game against Abingdon last week, and Giles this week. I can't confirm it, but I heard they even beat Abingdon's JV. Maybe that bodes well for the future, at least numbers wise. At least they're trying to keep the future of the program going. Some posters wanting to punish next years team, or even this years basketball team, because they can't finish this season, seems unrealistic to me.
  15. who waits til week 10 to schedule a homecoming? I know everybody wants to win their homecoming, but geeeesh. As successful as Narrows has been the last 5 or so years, are they still that insecure enough to have to wait til week 10, and schedule Craig Co.
  16. at least I understand this one, without an interpreter
