  1. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] OT basics - each team gets a possession - 1st & goal at the 10. Series ends on a score, failed FG attempt, or a turnover (not necessarily 4 downs). If still tied, you go to a 2nd OT, and so on. No "you must try for 2" rule anywhere down the line. State record is 6 OT's : Brookville 27, Salem 20, on Aug. 30, 2002. [/ QUOTE ] Ball is put in play on the 20 not the ten in OT. Unless this was changed this year and I don't think it was. [/ QUOTE ] They still start on the 10 yard line in VA. I wish they would move it back to at least the 15 or 20...would make things a little more interesting.
  2. [ QUOTE ] Hmmm...... Sounds like a lot of Bandwagon fans to me. [/ QUOTE ] If so, the bandwagon is overflowing. The game in Durham yesterday was like a home game for VT. Of the 25,000+ fans that made it to Wallace Wade Stadium, I would say 75% were VT fans. Duke fans filled two sections behind the Duke bench and their student section was about 3/4 full behind the Tech sideline. The rest of the stadium was maroon and orange...
  3. [ QUOTE ] I am looking to purchase 3 Tech football tickets to every home game if anyone knows of any. Please let me know as soon as possible because I definetely want to go and take my son. Thanks. [/ QUOTE ] Good luck! Tickets will be very difficult to come by this season without paying an arm and leg for them. Due to the reseating this year, there were some Hokie Club members who did not get tickets due to the demand. Tickets are in extreme high demand with a very, very limited supply. You may get lucky and find one or two tickets but getting three together may be near impossible for one game, let alone every home game. If you want to go to all the home games, why don't you do like the rest of us that were fortunate enough to get season tickets...pony up the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and join the Hokie Club, then cross your fingers in hopes that you are high enough on the priority list to get tickets....

  10. [ QUOTE ] Write it down and call your bookie: Ohio State -6 [/ QUOTE ] Hello, Mr. Bookie, I'll take the Longhorns please...
  11. Blacksburg is young and inexperienced this year plus they start a FRESHMAN QB, who is, from what I've heard and read, the best player on the team. Blitzes from every direction will have this young man befuddled all evening and Graham may go 3 for 3 on starting QBs...B-burg's coaches may take him out so that he doesn't get injured... ------------------------------------------------------------ Giles 26, Blacksburg 14: Giles tailback Ricky Cook scored all four touchdowns to lead the Spartans in a nondistrict game in Pearisburg. Cook finished with 37 carries for 176 yards. Bruins freshman Trey Gresh completed 14-of-22 passes for 164 yards and an interception. He also ran for a score. Running back Latrell Keys scored on a 93-yard kickoff return in the second quarter for the Bruins. The Spartans' Ryne Hevener added 19 carries for 147 yards. Giles 0 12 8 6--26 Blacksburg 0 7 7 0--14 G -- Cook 2 run (kick failed) G -- Cook 2 run (pass failed) B -- Keys 93 kick off return (Cooke kick) B -- Gresh 8 run (Cooke kick) G -- Cook 35 run (Tanner run) G -- Cook 4 run (pass failed)

  15. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] yea i know i was just saying i want there to be more sports teams in the San Antio area but i dont want them to go there under this kind of sercomstances. [/ QUOTE ] *Circumstances* someone get this kid a spell-checker!! [/ QUOTE ] Its goalie, what do you expect????
  16. [ QUOTE ] I'd rather "sneak in the back way" when going downtown. Stay on the bypass another mile +. After the Prices Fork exit, you'll drift down to a traffic light. Turn left. Go about 3/4 mile and turn left (no light, but you can see Lane Stadium on that road). Go past Lane to the top of hill. Turn right (around Cassell Coliseum). Go about a mile. Washington dead-ends 1 block short of Main, so turn left, then make a right at the stop sign (7-11), and a right again at the traffic light. Bill Brown will be on the left about 2 blocks from there (back about a block from Main). And pay attention to the speed limit signs. Once you turn off 460, the Hokie Smokies will get ya (you don't want to end up in the Hokie Pokie). Only been to 1 game there, many years ago, so I don't know what traffic/parking are like. Kool-Aid's directions will mess you up. If you come in on Main, pay no attention to the H.S. Keep on Main another couple of miles, through downtown, (which has a lot of turn lanes, so be careful). When you get out of the tightly-packed stretch, BBS will be at the top of the rise, back on the left. The "Smart Road" directions apply if you're coming in on the Christiansburg side of town. [/ QUOTE ] Washington St. goes all the way from Duckpond Dr. to Main St...it DOES NOT DEAD END. Be careful of the new "roundabout" they put on Washington at the interseciton of West Campus Drive. So taking your directions...Go past Prices Fork Exit. Turn left at the stop light on Rt. 460 on to Southgate. Take first left off of Southgate onto Duck Pond. Take a right on to Washington. Follow Washington all the way to Main St (BACKSTREETS RESTAURANT will be across main on your left at the stop light... ). At the stop light, turn right, the school will be a couple of blocks on the left...Stadium behind the school. BTW, there is a new stoplight at the intersection of Southgate and Spring Rd.
  17. Easiest way to Blacksburg's Bill Brown Stadium... Take the North Main St. exit (just after the long grade down the mountain going into Blacksburg). Stay on North Main St. all the way into town. Once you get into downtown Blacksburg, stay on Main St. (which turns into South Main St.), look for BACKSTREETS RESTAURANT on the left (at the corner of Washington and Main). Continue two or three blocks past BACKSTREETS RESTAURANT and look for the old middle school on the left. The Stadium is behind the old school. Before or after the game...enjoy a wonderful meal from BACKSTREETS RESTAURANT. They have a wonderful Italian menu and the pizza is as good as it gets!!! They also have the best breadsticks in town...try them with the marinara sauce or Ranch dressing...ummm, YUMMY!!! This post was brought to you by the G-Man in hopes that BACKSTREETS RESTAURANT will see this post and give the G-Man a "discount" on his next visit...
  18. [ QUOTE ] The davis guy? I've heard a number of people talk about him, but I'm not really sure when he graduated. According to the people from Tazewell though, he was a great player. [/ QUOTE ] BINGO!!! Jesse Davis!!! The kid was a PLAYER!!! He had an arm like a cannon...I saw him throw the ball 80 yards in the air against Bluefield at Mitchell Stadium. I think he graduated in '86 maybe???
  19. I would almost guarantee H.T. Matthews of Graham set/broke every passing record in the SWD in 2001...I'm not sure what the exact numbers were but I have them at home and will post them tomorrow. Prior to that the best QB in the SWD had to be the kid from Tazewell in the mid/late 80s...help me out with his name Tidbit...
  20. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] WARNING: GO THE SPEED LIMIT ON THE VIRGINIA SIDE!!! [/ QUOTE ] haha...I just remembered that my very first speeding ticket was going through Pembroke. Definately have to watch the speed through there. [/ QUOTE ] My one and only speeding ticket was going through Pembroke. Cop said I was doing 66 in a 45, I think he got the wrong car for a couple of reasons...1) I drove through Pembroke A LOT while going to VT and I NEVER, and I mean NEVER, went/go over 45 through that spot in the road; 2) I was in an 8-year old Chevy Chevette w/100,000 miles on it (max. 90 HP when all 4 cylinders were firing in time...when it was brand new), and he said he clocked me going up the hill coming out of Pembroke to the west...NO CHANCE IN A WARMER CLIMATE that my Chevette could go 65 going up hill...it could barely go 65 down hill. Went to court over it, had the Judge look at the car I was driving, even offered to let him drive it for himself to see if he could get it to 65...he didn't let me off but he did lower the charge to 54 in a 45, saved me from a "wreckless driving ticket"...yeh, right, wreckless driving in a Chevette...maybe wreckless for not being able to get the car up to the speed limit!
  21. [ QUOTE ] that was a temporary fix. the big $$$ brace was ordered and until daddy is satisfied with JT's condition-you are just hoping for a quick return, like the rest of us [/ QUOTE ] I think wweagle knows a bit more than folks are giving him credit for...
  22. If they go 3-0, I'll put them in the Sweet 16 next week...
  23. Back in the day when ESPN came to town to cover the Graham-Beaver rivalry/game for SSA, the host of the show Dan Debenham and sidekick, Adrian Karsten, spent a good portion of their week up here at Fincastle playing golf...both were fairly decent players I might add. I talked to both quite a bit during the week. Karsten seemed like a nice guy but I got the feeling that there was some sort of "glitch" in his chemical make-up...can't explain it any other way except that maybe he had some sort of depression disorder. There was just something "different" and "distant" about him. I'm sure, even with meds, having to face prison time could have been more than he could handle. Debenham, on the other hand, was a pompous ass...it was ALL about him, never could walk by a mirror without checking himself out, really enjoyed having his ego stroked. BTW, if you ever saw the piece they did for SSA, you will notice in the beginning they show Bluefield HS in the distance and then pan down the valley and show you Graham HS...I "gave" them that shot. I told them I had a "great idea" on how to start the piece, took them to the spot and explained what I had envisioned. Debenham and Karsten looked at each other and say "PERFECT!" at the same time. They looked at their camera man, and asked if he could get that shot. Ten minutes later the intro for the piece is finished! My 15 minutes of fame, I guess...
