  1. Not so fast.

This weekend's article in the BDT says Collier is still at Bluefield.  He visited the prep school but hasn't enrolled yet.  It looks like his attorney is asking for one more reconsideration hearing.

Also of note, Martinsburg's QB mentioned earlier in this thread, who was initially declared ineligible by the same SSAC rule, was just declared eligible this morning using the "Hamilton Case" that is mentioned in the latest Collier article.  Maybe that will at least set some sort of precedent for Lykel's argument.

P.S. Hey bhs7695 clean your PMs out or something.  It won't let me send you one.

This is what I get for believing what I read in the BDT. With the M'burg kid being cleared today I would shocked if Collier is not declared eligible to play this season. If not, I fully expect a court battle and rightfully so, but hopefully it does not come to that.

  2. There will be no attempt to seek an injunction because of the risk of retroactive forfeits down the road. Collier's days at Beaver are officially over. The positive is that he found a place to play and hopefully secure a athletic scholarship for college. It will be interesting to see how the returning players respond to this event because the team is very close and Collier was the heart.

  3. Not that it would have changed the outcome, but I'm curious: Why the lopsided home advantage for Bluefield? 16 games in Bluefield and only 11 at Ernie?

Looks like after the first four (38, 39, 58, 59) meetings that the series has alternated location every game since. After next year the home/away difference will be four games, which is accounted for by the the first four of the series being at Bluefield. What was the Richlands' field situation like in those first four years of the series? Maybe it was at Bluefield to accommodate a large crowd? Just a guess because those games were years before my time as it was for many here. Maybe the GMan can fill us in? Ha

I knew someone would come through; excellent information. Just shows how lopsided this series has been.

  5. Glad the Braves were able to hang-on last night; a loss would have meant the series was over. Needless to say, ATL must steal one in LA and I believe they must win Game 3. Looking forward, anxiously and excitedly, for Teheran's first career playoff start. He is ATL's current best hope, I feel, for a future ace and he can start his movement into that role on Sunday.

  6. Glad this series has been renewed and hope it continues in the years to come. Bluefield's schedule is suffering and we need quality opponents. Previous formiable foes on the schedule are seriously struggling and have been for several years, so continuing this series is important for Bluefield's S.O.S.  With that said, however, talk is simply that, talk with regard to who would have won in years the two did not play on the field. When the game has been played on the field Bluefield owns the series. Going back to 1997 these two teams have played eight times and Beaver has won seven of those eight games. I cannot recall if the two played in 1996, but Beaver only lost one regular season game in 1996 and it wasn't to Richlands; I believe the loss was @ Poca by a point or two?  I was trying to locate the scores of those past eight games, but have been unsuccessful as most of my information is in my parents' attic back in Bluefield. Here are the scores from my memory only, so if anyone could provide factual evidence of the scores I would appreciate it.

    1997: Bluefield 21-7 or 28-7 @ Richlands

    1998: Bluefield 41-10 or 34-10 @ Bluefield

    1999: Bluefield 28-21 @ Richlands

    2001: Richlands 56-14 @ Richlands

    2002: Bluefield 24-21 @ Bluefield

    2007: Bluefield 16-13 @ Richlands

    2008: Bluefield 35-14 @ Bluefield

    2013: Bluefield 38-14 @ Bluefield

Again, this series needs to contiune and both parties need to do whatever is necessary to ensure it does continue past 2014. It's good for both communities and all of Southwest Virginia and Southern WV for that matter because these are two of the best programs historically in the region's history. And playing each other will only benefit both teams going into the playoffs each November.

  7. Questionable decisions by players looked upon for leadership is why I do not believe this team has what it takes to win the state title. Beaver was spoiled by great player leadership from 2002-2009 with the entire 2005 seniors class during 2004 and guys like Ponder in 2007 and Lilly and Patterson in 2009. Beaver has lacked player leadership since 2009 and it is no concidence they have not played for a title since that time.

  8. GHS, the interstate between Exit 132 and 118 was completely closed down yesterday at 4:30 and will remain closed permenantly for possibly 10 days. All interstate traffic is being placed on 460 and is creating traffic nightmares along that portion of the highway. This was done due to an unstable slope caused by blasting yesterday morning, which they say could take nearly two weeks to repair.

  9. Better leave super early Starcity, so you make it for the game. You might be sitting in traffic for several hours with I-81 being shutdown for possibly 10 days. It took someone I know nearly three hours to get from Rke. to C'burg last night.

  10. The Heyward injury is another in a long line this year, but might be the most significant. ATL has no one to replace the intangibles he brings to the field; and his hitting had really picked up since moving to lead-off. The Braves postseason success is going to ride squarely on his ability to comeback from this injury in October. And not to burst anyone's bubble, but the playoffs are not yet a guarantee despite where things stand today.
