  1. Mouth of Wilson is on Route 58, about 20-25 minutes west of Independence, down in Grayson County. It's right on the North Carolina border, and you can see the tall mountains from there. It is quite a sight.
  2. I'm glad to hear that. That's the attitude of a champion, win or lose.
  3. I was in the 11th grader at Graham when that game was played. I heard comments that week like: "We're gonna set a VHSL scorin' record", "Nothin' like a free ring", "The only way they can beat us is for us to forfeit", and other similar comments by the football players, of whom a few started. Not everyone said that, not by a long shot, but I heard more than my fair share of cocky comments. I honestly think we overlooked Harrisonburg big time, and it came back to bite us. From someone who was there, yes, Graham was cocky headin' in there, and I don't think takin' a fast 10-0 lead helped matters much... I hope Richlands go in on the confident side of the line, not the cocky side. I don't think they will, though. Any team that gets there can win it.
  4. Charlie Weis is a genuinely good guy, always have liked him, and it's hard to cheer against a guy who's got a good heart. A lot of history there, too, and I'm glad to see 'em do well.
  5. That graphic is totally sweet. Awesome job!
  6. That is true. If a school is built just for that city, and it's jurisdiction is within that city's limit, if you live just outside the city line, you'll go to Carroll County, unless you transfer. I had a similar situation when I went to high school. I lived 11 minutes from Tazewell and 11 minutes from Graham, and I went to Graham, because the folks livin' on the other side of East River Mountain went to Tazewell. Weirdly-shaped school districts, I tell ya...
  7. First, give credit where credit is due. The winningest coach in 1-A history... Second, get over the loss. You were outplayed, plain and simple. The Hokies still have a Florida bowl, which I still drool over...
  8. I agree with that. That kind of debate pulls in that 11:00 AM ESPN time slot, which is becomin' a bigger pull more and more every week.
  9. Like us losin' to Georgia Tech in Atlanta last year, when we ended up beatin' 'em 30-10. He's not a bad prognosticator, I just can't stand him or Herbstreit.
  10. Didn't the Massey prediction say 29-10 Richlands? I'll go with a similar score: Richlands: 31 Turner-Ashby: 13
  11. Agreed. They're an Elite-Eight team at least. Redick and Melchionni are just too dang good, and Coach K can build a great team like MacGyver could build a bomb out of dirt, a balloon, and a wick.
  12. That's exactly the point: the ACC is now a power conference BECAUSE it took three of the four best football teams from the Big East. The fact that an 8-4 Florida State team can make the BCS attests to the fact that the ACC is strong enough that nearly and team can beat another team on any given day (sorry Dukies, that's why I said "nearly"). It speaks volumes when the third worst team in your conference is 5-6. Virginia was 6-5, NC State was 6-5, Wake Forest is 4-7 (they've declined SO much over the past five years), Maryland's 5-6 (but will be much better next year, look at Vernon Davis). Duke is, of course, 1-10, but every conference has a team like this. Mississippi State is in the ballpark of 3-8 in the SEC. Arkansas was 3-8, and Kentucky was 3-8. Is the SEC a "weak" conference? Of course NOT. I'll put my feet to the coals and say the ACC was the 2nd toughest football conference in the nation this year PER CAPITA of strong teams, next to the SEC. Someone may argue for the Pac-10, and they'd have a case with USC and Oregon. However, you have three flat out AWFUL teams at the bottom of that division in Washington State, Washington, and Arizona. As I've said earlier, anyone but Duke has a shot to beat anybody else on any given week. Yes, the Big East has lost a LOT of prestige, but the ACC IS a great conference, regardless of what some may believe.
  13. Better from the ignorance that spews from Corso and Herbstreit!
  14. I think he's underperformed ever since he came out of Tennessee. He couldn't be the #1 receiver at Atlanta that Vick needed to take a little bit of pressure off him, and that's why he ended up in Dallas in the first place. I just cannot see Parcells ever pickin' up Terrell Owens, because Parcells would end up openin' a can on Terrell by the time it's all set and done.
  15. I'll try to find out: I have a friend who went to James Monroe, and was at that game this weekend.
  16. Same here. I can't make the drive to Lynchburg 'cause of my school schedule, and since I also missed Graham's game in 2001, I feel a wee-bit slighted. I'd pay for it, pay-per-view style.
  17. In my recent memory I cannot remember them ever televising a Virginia state championship game, even on delay. With that said, I could easily be wrong, so correct me if I am. However, I think the chances would be slim. I always did like that about the West Virginia playoffs; the games would be televised delay, so those who couldn't get to see the game could. If Virginia doesn't do that, they should.
  18. Virginia will take him. Ron Prince is worse. I've never seen so many swing passes on 3rd-and-9 in my life. Also, the offensive playcallin' was far too unimaginative. "Run first, pass no more than 5 yards" could very well be the logo of that offense with him there, with the exception of the Florida State game (which I saw), they played like they had nothin' to lose. We didn't have the athletes, and we couldn't make it up with skill, so there we are, 6-5. I'd love to be 10-2 like Tech is. It's easy to criticize, and it makes for fun banter. By the way, Tech had more personal fouls in that game than I would've imagined. It looks unsportsmanlike from this angle. So was the hit Brad Batler game Matthias Kiwaniuka. I call it as I see it.
  19. About 3 hours and 30-45 minutes. You have the speedtrap of Giles County, but it's a straight shot on 460, and that ain't bad.
  20. Congratulations on a hard-fought, well-deserved win, Blue Tornadoes. Let that Storm roll right into Lynchburg next week and bring the title back. If I didn't have an exam next Saturday from 2-5, I'd see it for myself. But I digress: go Blues!
  21. That score doesn't surprise me in the least. Like I said in the other thread, Haysi is good, but I didn't believe they could keep pace with Giles.
  22. If I'm not mistaken: A student-athlete can play in another district's school, granted he attends that school, and has attended that school for at least one semester. There's a great deal of overlap in the district, based on enrollment (like the A "Lonesome Pine" and the AA "Highlands", one could transfer from Lee High to, say, Powell Valley, and cross over the districts, theoretically). It's somewhat different for a West Virginia student-athlete that wants to play in Virginia, for I believe that it is a yearly charge of 250 bucks or somethin' like that to come to a Virginia school from West Virginia. But the one-semester rule still applies. Please correct me if I'm wrong, y'all. It's been a while since I've had to spell this out.
  23. Bob Griese wasn't even the best quarterback in Dolphins history (A fellow names Dan Marino deserves that title). And in my opinion, regardless of Super Bowls, those two are neck-and-neck for tops all-time (Montana for his consistancy, Marino for numbers). That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.
  24. It matches up perfectly with the rest of the song, "with" being the only exception. I'll stick to my guns.
  25. It's "with". http://research.yale.edu/gleeclub/temp/yalesongs.php
