  1. Does anyone from winfield know the status of the player taken off the field during the 2nd quarter? hope he is ok. keep him in my prayers.
  2. I don't post here very often. I don't like to get in on the bashing that is always going on among grown men who can't except the fact that their playing days are over and its suppose to be about the kids. Beaverborn, you are one of the few from buelield that actually makes since when they post. We are all just southern west virginians trying to make it in a world that looks down on us and downgrades us as poor little hillbillies. we all are tired of this stereotype from our own country. So why is it then that we cant even have neighboring communities be able to get along. I have no ties to either place(lindside or bluefield). i was raised in princeton and went to college at bluefield state but now i live in monroe county. that dont make me a farmer. just like being from bluefield dont automatically place you on this big city pedestal that most of the bluefield people think. Well, just wanted to vent. Have a nice day.
  3. coaches don't buy off refs anyway. theres more than enough alumni around to take care of that.
  4. first of all, there is no ya'll. i am not a weir fan or have anything to do with weir. i do know bluefield though and how the people in bluefield act. but still no one has answered my question. what REALLY happened. you seem to be avoiding that question. reality is you probably dont know either.
  5. I would like to know what REALLY happened after the game. if there was aproblem why is only one man being made an example of. if he did something so bad then why wernt there charges filed on him. sounds to me a case of some obnoxious bluefield fans getting something started the having there mayberry police force acting like they're badder than they are.
  6. i have seen several of independences games and trust me, no one in any clasification around here could touch them.
  7. all of you are just like a bunch of kids. nothing in the past matters. not the trips to wheeling and not the championships. only thing that matters is the game tonight so everyone just shut up and play the game. its not fair for the kids on either team to have to be compared to what their dads did or their great granddads or even their older brothers. the kids playing tonight had nothing to do with the last 10 years or 30 years. anyone can be beaten on any given night. and if you dont belieive that then why dont you have 10 championships in the last 10 years? let the kids decide it instead of abunch of has beens!!!!
  8. the newspapers had nothing on james monroe's game last week verses summers. Can someone tell me what andrew robertson did in the game? How bout the rest of the team? i would l9ike to have some stats please.
  9. Well its about that time of the year again. The time of the year that I am reminded of the so-called "new and improved" and the "it'll be better for the comunity" consolidation lines. Well it was neither better or improved. Yes , i am talking about class 1a basketball in southern WV. Consolidation has single handedly wiped out everything good about high school basketball. Remember whenEverybody in the comunity came out to watch there local high school and the gym was packed. Remember when the start of the season was kicked off with the Mercer County Christmas tournement at either Brushfork Armory or Concord College because these were the only places big enough to hold the crowd. Remember when you as a player new everyone on the opposing team not just as a number but new them off the court as well. Remember when Charlie Maynard would ring his towell all night on the wildcat bench to the likes of Jerry Tarkanian. Remember Danny gaither on the Matoaka bench all calm and collected. How bout Carmen Stauffer "hootin" and holerin' at the owls down in Oakvale and later on down at Peterstown on the Pirate bench. Remember Cy Jefferies at Athens Or how bout Robert Wray over at Bramwell. Remember when every school in the area was a contender for the state title but yet every one new they couldn't get past Mullens in the early 80's or Bramwell in the Later part of the decade. Those were the days that it meant something to the people. When there was school spirit. Now it seems like Basketball is just something to pass the time while everyone waits for the next football season. If you dont believe me go check out a Pikeview game. Take your pick at the seat you want, they are all empty. Why is this? Pikeview was made up of 4 schools that were always topnotch basketball schools. Spanishburg, Mataoka, Athens, and Oakvale. Back in the day if you wanted a seat at any one of these schools you had to be there early in the j-v game. I'm sure some of you can remember way further back than I can. I would like to see what some of you think about this topic. It is something that has bothered me ever since consolidation took over. let me hear some of your memories. Lets share some stories. Can't wait to see what comes up from this.
