  1. [ QUOTE ] No team in West Virginia short of WVU or Marshall could hold Bluefield under ten points. Ask Martinsburg about that... [/ QUOTE ] Well, Weir was THIS close to doing it. It can be done, it's just exceedingly rare.
  2. [ QUOTE ] SSAC Probation in WV = A JOKE So Weir was already on probation for using an ineligible player and then this incident occurred and the SSAC acts like its no big deal because it was an "In house Incident". How could that be considered In house when it happened the way it did? I say FIRE the bum for acting the way he did. I dont care how much crap he had to listen to after that loss. A person in that role CAN NOT act they way Mr. Filberto did... I'm sorry, no excuses... I dont care how emotional it was... Also... did Weir have to forfeit those two games they used the ineligible player? I don't think so... now if that had been Bluefield that done that, we would have had to forfeit those two games... no post season play and gawd knows what else... [/ QUOTE ] So true..if this wasn't worthy of a "second offense", what on earth is? Another cheating scandal? I wonder if there is any kind of precedent...I can't imagine any southern WV team being let off the hook for using an ineligible player.
  3. [ QUOTE ] I agree with you that they should fired the coach that was in the dispute! But the whole team shouldn't be punished for his actions. Nope for some reason they didn't have to forfeit those games. Who knows why though?? the system is crazy LOL [/ QUOTE ] Nope, they didn't have to forfeit them...my guess is that most any southern WV team would have been forced to. Perhaps the WVSSAC wanted to make sure that there was SOMEONE who could challenge Bluefield. In my opinion, the WVSSAC has been corrupt for some time...witness the whole shenanigans of keeping the title game in Wheeling.
  4. [ QUOTE ] H - A - T - E - R [/ QUOTE ] Amen. Troll isn't worth out time any more...there is nothing anyone here could ever say to change that guy's mind, so why bother. His mind is made up, the game was stolen, so no amount of rational discussion will ever change his opinion. I just can't understand why someone could have so much hate due to high school football. As much as I love it, it's just a game.
  5. [ QUOTE ] From what i could see the field looks alot different and alot better then last year [/ QUOTE ] That is much better than the mudhole I've seen there previously. But then again, the whole Wheeling championship thing STILL chaps my backside, how they have locked in control of having the state championship at what is probably the most remote location in West Virginia (save for Martinsburg). I think the championship ought to be in Charleston, or perhaps at the site of the #1 team (they used to do this, Bluefield won in 1975 in Mitchell).
  6. I have always thought that the Virginia system was too complicated. Hearing all this Region this, Division that, it's not really clear. Of course, what it breaks down to, is there are SIX different size classifications. That's too many in my opinion. Heck, here in Georgia, there are five (A through AAAAA). Also, the whole region thing is to make sure a particular area of the state doesn't dominate...it makes sure that there are playoff teams from all four parts of the state. I do think it is flawed, especially when there are so many good small teams in SW Virginia, and some get left out with good records, while some slug from another area gets a playoff spot. Being a WV native, I may be a little biased, but I do like the system WV uses. It makes sure the best teams are in the playoffs, no matter where they're located. And as I said above, the whole "Division" thing sounds silly...if they're insisting on having six size classes, call them A, AA, AAA, AAAA, AAAAA, and AAAAAA. Seriously, I think 4 or 5 classes would be best.
  7. [ QUOTE ] oh yeah..... maybe? i didn't think about that. see what i meant when i say i often speak before thinking. i think that is often known as foot-in-mouth disease [/ QUOTE ] Sources is correct...I was referring to Sandman's comments as being total BS. Certainly not casting aspersion on you I do see where it could be taken that way, with the word total being at the beginning of the sentence and being capitalized.
  8. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] That kid amazed me, he seemed to be impossible to bring down...but then, we're talking about HS kids in the 180-220 lb range making tackles. It is a different world when the D-linemen are all 260+ and the LBs are all 225+ [/ QUOTE ] This was the exactly point I was going to make if someone asked why he wasn't going to play offense. He's a tank in high school, but would be just another player at the D1 college level. While he has decent speed, it isn't overwhelming speed and I don't think he'd be too successful running the football. However, the kid is a warrior and a very smart player. WVU might look at using him on goal-line or short-yardage situations. [/ QUOTE ] There are always good examples of this...down in Blacksburg, Justin Hamilton came in as a similar player, a tall guy who just ran all over defenses. Justin was a tailback, but was then moved to receiver, now back to tailback due to a lack of depth. Justin has done OK, but he's not a game-changer as a tailback at the collegiate level. when I lived in Charleston, I saw Mark Plants of South Charleston go to WVU as a RB, get shifted all over the place, and he was never fully effective as a college RB. The gap between skill levels in HS and college is huge. You're just not going to find 195 lb defensive linemen in college. Or 175 lb linebackers. All the linemen and linebackers in college are big. And good. And fast. All were stars on their respective HS teams. I agree that the Cooper kid could make a good defender...he has a good frame for DE if he could put on 30 lb.
  9. [ QUOTE ] i was on the field as soon as the game was over... and Bluefield was running around celebrating and not to concerned with the line for shaking hands. but a couple moments later, i did notice a line had formed and that there was shaking hands. a lot of our players were not in that line because they were still celebrating. i was talking to Rusty and personally saw 2 coaches come up to him and congratulate him... and i saw that all over the field... players and coaches going up, individually, and shaking hands and telling good game. they may not have ALL been in the line, but neither was all of our team. and just as our players were running around and celebrating (and not in the line) i saw a lot of the Weir players laying flat on their stomachs or on their knees crying, and understandably so. i didn't see any bad intentions or ill will going from Weir players/staff towards Bluefield players/staff. it was just the situation. [/ QUOTE ] True, but here is a good picture that shows a lot of Bluefield players lined up, looking to the Weir sidelines for their players to come out and shake hands... Buzzsaw's photo This is just a snapshot, but there do seem to be a lot of Bluefield players waiting to give a handshake, and not many takers. I can understand the emotions, and why the Weir kids might have been too torn up, but there are clearly some guys there just staring at the Bluefield players from their sideline.
  10. [ QUOTE ] WVU plans on playing the kid at either linebacker or defensive end from what I've been told... [/ QUOTE ] Seems like a waste of talent, but he is awfully tall to be a RB, and he runs a bit too straight-up to be a big-time success. That kid amazed me, he seemed to be impossible to bring down...but then, we're talking about HS kids in the 180-220 lb range making tackles. It is a different world when the D-linemen are all 260+ and the LBs are all 225+ Still, on that 4th down, there is no question I would have run Cooper up the middle yet again. Clearly the lowest risk, with the highest chance of success.
  11. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] hey sandman, Blfd kicked the you know what out of Graham. you need to get over it and stop acting like a 5 year old [/ QUOTE ] Hey buddy, you don't know who I am or where I went to school. The only thing you know is that I'm located in Bluefield VA and that means Graham, and if you know anything, you know you hate Graham. You're just firing off "my school rocks, your school sucks", as fast as you can key it in. You're hilarous. [/ QUOTE ] Well, you know, you could surely educate us and tell us what interest you do have in this. Frankly, anything near "Casual observer" sounds completely bogus...a casual observer wouldn't go to the lengths you are to cast aspersions on what happened? So, since people have assumed incorrectly who you are affiliated with, why don't you tell us which school you DID go to, and why this whole issue has you so intent on flaming the board here? Inquiring minds want to know. P.S. Some of us have a horrible Mercer County education, yet have still managed to do pretty well with it.
  12. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I was standing in the corner of the endzone along the fence in the closing minutes of regulation and OT. As Rusty spiked the ball I immediately looked back to the clock to see it go from two seconds down to one second. Much like total, I thought more time ran off than should have, but it doesn't matter. [/ QUOTE ] It won't be long now as the "moderator" (that's a joke) banns me for treason against the crown (Bluefield Football). Never before on any website I have ever visited, have the moderators ever interjected themselves in the discussions and questions listed to insult site members even when comments violate site rules (which this topic does not). [/ QUOTE ] I'm fairly new here, but I'm not new to Internet message boards. What you are doing now is flaming, making posts with the intent of eliciting negative responses. You asked a question, and several people have replied in factual statements. 1. Was Bluefield set before the spike? You have been responded to by at least two people who confirmed that Bluefield was indeed set before the play started. 2. Was the clock run correctly? You have been responded to by at least two people who said that if anything, TOO MUCH time ran off the clock. Also, as a couple people noted, if this was even close to being an issue, wouldn't the Weir coaches have reviewed their tape and filed some sort of grievance with the WVSSAC already? I noticed you placed words in several people's mouths, where they said whatever happened, happened. You implied that these people were aware of some kind of cheating and were in agreement with this alleged cheating. Total, complete BS. Nobody here has ever implied any impropriety with the clock, and you know that. Please, stop while you still have some dignity. With every bleating response, you look like a sad, bitter, hater, who is just looking for SOMETHING to hang your misery on. It must really suck to be you.
  13. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Do you have a point here, or are you just a troublemaker/troll? [/ QUOTE ] The point is not everything that happened at that stadium on Saturady has been talked about and I am offering my observation. Since people in Atlanta clearly posses clairvoyance why don't you tell me what went on in Bluefield WV on 11/27? [/ QUOTE ] Okay, it is obvious that you are indeed a troublemaker/troll. I am indeed from Atlanta. So freaking what? I grew up in Bluefield, went to BHS, and actually know several people here (Buzzsaw can vouch for me, he's a couple years older than I am). While I may live in Atlanta, I discovered this amazing form of transport known as the automobile, and I used it to come to Bluefield over the weekend. Other than the football game, not a whole lot happened in Bluefield Saturday. I'm not even sure what on earth you're getting at, other than to stir up trouble.
  14. [ QUOTE ] Weir's palyers are allowed to move around, the're on defense at that point. I'm talking about Bluefield's offensive players not being set. (Please tell me you have a vague grasp of the rules before we start back and forth.) As for the point of coming back in. How much could you really see down there unless your on the front row? [/ QUOTE ] If we're going to discuss this, you could at least start out on the right foot here. No need to be a smart-arse. I do indeed have a "vague grasp of the rules", I used to play. I fully understand that the offense is supposed to be set for 2 seconds before the ball is snapped. I also know that the defense does NOT have to be set. But, they can't be in the neutral zone when the ball is snapped. And for people coming in and out..I obviously could not see the gate, but I can CLEARLY see the area in front of the locker room. I could clearly see a large contingent of people standing there, more than was there a minute or two previously, so they came from somewhere, and I am guessing that they were people who came back in. Several people here have said they did just that. I have no reason to doubt that...do you? Do you have a point here, or are you just a troublemaker/troll?
  15. I have to say, I couldn't tell what happened at all from the Bluefield stands. All I could tell is that nobody (save for about 3-4 Weir players and a Weir coach?) would come out to shake hands. Seemed like really poor sportsmanship to snub the other team like that.
  16. On the ball spike, it is my opinion that not being set is rarely called. From what I remember, if anything, the Weir players were still moving, and at least one was possibly in the neutral zone when the ball was snapped. At that point, the penalty against Weir wouldn't have mattered, half the distance would be 2 inches closer. And on your other point...a lot of people left, I saw it too. But many seemed to come back in and were gathered down by the locker room,w atching the action there. I was there the whole time, even though I seriously thought about bailing at the 3 minute mark.
  17. [ QUOTE ] If james monroe wins ill go streaking in the parking lot at mitchell stadium..lol [/ QUOTE ] Whew...you can keep your pants on.
  18. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] A drive from Atlanta to Bluefield is a long haul, but if there was ever a game to make that drive for it'll be next weekend. Remember too, with the state championship being played on a Friday night and schools being out for the holiday Weir could decide to play on Friday night... Coeburn, at 6'3" and 220, should be getting looks from someone. I know he could play for, at the very least, Concord and goodness knows they could use some players. I'd say Daniel Wells has to be getting some looks as well, but he's also an outstanding student and could very well go somewhere for academics. Wells’ father is a pharmacist in Bluefield and his brother, Ronnie, which played for Bluefield in the mid-1990s is a biochemist in the Chicago area. The intelligence genes in that family are off the charts...lol [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, it's about a 7 hour drive, give or take a bathroom stop or two... I'd make the trip for more than the game, my dad is still in Bluefield, and I haven't been in town since July 2003...so I'd have more than one reason to come in. Still, for about 6 weeks in early 2003, I made the trip from Christiansburg to Atlanta on Sunday night, and from Atlanta to Christiansburg on Friday night...was working here and my wife and child were still in C-Burg. I'm VERY used to that drive, so I may just do it, even if the game is on Friday, I have Thursday and Friday off, so if I leave Friday morning, I can be there in plenty of time. I'll keep a watch to see when game time will be, that'll be decided tomorrow, I assume. Wells is the center, right? What does he run, about 6'1 and 220-ish? Probably not big enough for a big-time program on offensive line, but with some good strength training, I am guessing he could be a heck of a defender, or if he has speed and hands, a fullback or TE. [/ QUOTE ] To respond to myself, I found the roster on the official BHS site: BHS Football page Looks like Wells is listed at 6'1" and 221, so he's got decent size, and probably some mass to gain. And I love to see the smart kids do well, sounds like he does have some good family genetics, or perhaps some good family support.

  20. [ QUOTE ] Now that you have seen both teams play, what do you think are some advantages/disadvantages for each team going into next week and who do you think will win? [/ QUOTE ]I'm in Atlanta, and I haven't seen any of the teams play, but I have to think that Bluefield having a good pass offense, and seeing it every day in practice, HAS to help. If what I read is true, and JM uses a single wing, going up against a passing team has to be a problem (sort of like what Bluefield was able to do to them). I have no feeling about who will win between Bluefield and Weir (I may make the trip up from ATL to see the game, though...), but I'd put my money on Bluefield in a close game, maybe 35-28-ish.
  21. I talked to my dad about the game, got some thoughts from him too. He echoed that the defense looked pretty good. He felt the offense never got fully going, partially due to flags. My dad also mentioned that he wondered if the team wasn't fully up for the game...I said that with Weir coming up, if there was ever a game to play at 90%, this was it. I'm guessing that Weir will pick Saturday, and if so, I may make the drive from Atlanta to Bluefield Friday and stay over for the game. It's been a couple years since I've seen the team play. And Weir...I remember seeing them in Mitchell when Quincy Wilson was their RB. I was amazed then, seeing him take hits from Ricky Disibbio and Shawn Dews and stay standing. Weir has a heck of a program up there, and their dismantling of James Monroe means we better be ready for them. Also, other than Lucas Stone (1600? Wow...wish I could have done that!), is anybody being looked at? I would think Coeburn would be able to contribute somewhere, maybe even Perdue as a WR and KR.
  22. [ QUOTE ] From a friend of his mothers, she said he fractured almost every bone in his face and will require around 20 some surgeries over time to repair it. He was on a ventilator because of the massive swelling which made it hard for him to breath. There was no mention of a spinal injury, fortunately, perhaps that was suspected or precautionary at 1st, but he did have a fractured femor. He is still in critical condition though, squeezing his hand as a response, likely still out of it because it was a head injury. Should be some time recovering, but at least to me that seems better than the 1st diagnose maybe. Prayers for him and his family. God bless. [/ QUOTE ] I can corroborate this...Trina (Steve's mom) and Mark were in shortly over the weekend, and talked to one of the neighbors. Steve does have a long road ahead of him, but the word is, when all of the surgeries are done, he should be OK and still look like himself.
  23. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Weir is a formidable opponent..give em their due [/ QUOTE ] Weir is a moot point if we don't go out on Saturday afternoon and take it to Mount View...they will be sky high and looking to knock off the number one seed for sure. Stay focused on the View right now. [/ QUOTE ] I keep focusing on The View, but I feel I'm distracted from the upcoming football game. Ba Ba Wa Wa keeps talking, and I keep thinking "This is SO not about football". (sorry, just made me think about the TV show...not aimed at you in any way...just my weird sense of humor)
  24. [ QUOTE ] I know steve well, he was 2 years behind me from elementary school at memorial on. That is upsetting and unfortunate to read for certain, my parents know his parents also. He is certainly in our prayers and we're going to see if we can learn anything else ourselves. He also had a brother a few years behind him, mark banco. [/ QUOTE ] This is really sad news about Steve. I lived across the street from him, we graduated together. My dad mentioned it tonight on the phone, but he wasn't sure how bad it was, other than mentioning that he had a serious hip injury and broke most of the bones in his face. Mark is 3 years behind him, I think. He lives in NYC, last I heard. Please keep the board updated on his condition. I hope Wendy is doing OK...I think their third child is less than a year old.
