  1. I don't know if that's right. I talked to one of my friends who was a two way starter on this year's team and he said that Weir isn't playing Beaver Local next year. When I hear something for sure, I will post it.
  2. I think a Bluefield/Weir game always makes each team step it up a notch. I'd definitely like to see these two programs start playing annually in the regular season.
  3. I don't know what your schedule looks like, but because of a conference forming within the OVAC, Weir lost 3 games for next year. I was jw if Bluefield had any openings on their schedule b/c I'd like to see this game at a neutral site such as Laidley Field. This has built into a heated rivalry and I think it would be good for both programs to play a regular season game against each other. If you do have an open date, I think it would be good if Coach Simon contacted Weir's athletic dept. so neither team has a 9 game schedule.
  4. Don't know too much about them other than reading this board, but good luck next week and bring home a state title!!!
  5. Just got back from the game and was able to meet up w/ Sources, Tom, and a few others and watched the 3rd quarter with them. I even talked to Coeburn and Wells. Those guys are class acts and I mean that honestly. You guys had a very good team and deserved to be there with Weir. Even in a down year you prove why you are one of the best programs in the state. Bluefield is definitely my preseason #1 going into next year.
  6. Thanks gomavs, I appreciate it.
  7. I thought that Hillbilly was a JM fan and not just b/c of his screenname. I apologize for my mistake.
  8. "Good to know...I thought maybe he missed an extra point in practice and a Coach cold cocked him or something." And you wonder why I used to make comments about JM? That isn't funny AT ALL. There is a new coaching staff there now and what happened last year is in the past. Can you please get over it?
  9. If you would have watched Weir in 98, you would know what I was talking about. Q got a lot bigger and was a lot more effective his senior year. We got a few new players that came out for the team. Ryan Jeter, a two time all state selection in basketball, decided to play football his senior year and was named to the first team all state selection in that sport as well. The 97 Weir team was good, but the 98 team was definitely a lot better. BUT, none of this matters b/c we will never know. It's 2005 so let's just talk about the game Friday. It should be another classic, and even though I want Weir to win, I wish Bluefield good luck and everyone be safe on your way up to Wheeling.
  10. BluefieldRocks, you're not grasping the concept. It is the same kicker from last year. Last year, he wasn't injured. He injured his leg while practicing at Marshall last week before the Weir/Wayne game. I think he's going to be fine by this week though.
  11. I said Perdue made a GREAT catch in the back of the endzone. The last two years we coudln't seem to execute at the end of the game when it mattered. I congratulated Bluefield the past two years after beating us. I never said Weir was the best program in the state. We have a good team, and have had several good teams recently, but I didn't claim for them to be a powerhouse. No, I was not on the 97 or 98 team. I would have been in middle school at the time. I was however on the 03 team that lost to Bluefield in 2 OT's. Bluefield was stacked that year w/ players like Williams, Pannell, Mariotti, Martin, Steele, and also the players from last year's senior class who were juniors at the time. I have no problem w/ Bluefield. They are one of the best programs in the state of WV and I have never argued that. Like beaverbaseball said, let's just talk about the game. I'm not looking to argue here. Good luck this Friday and to whoever is driving up, be safe.
  12. Bluefield_Rules, I have nothing against you. I asked G-Man if I could have another chance on this board. I haven't been arguing, just discussing the game this week and past games between these two teams. I haven't caused any trouble. I have been talking to your brother a lot too and I am meeting up w/ him at the game. I don't see the problem.
  13. "i'm pretty sure Q didn't get into the end zone in '97, those LB's stopped him when it mattered." He rushed for 150+ that game w/ 2 TD's
  14. Tom, you know we're cool but I have a question. How is you saying IF Bluefied's QB didn't dislocate his shoulder they would have won different from Weir fans saying IF Filberto doesn't call that pass play, Weir wins the state title in 04. I'm not trying to start anything, honestly. I'm jw.
  15. NOONE stopped Q, they slowed him down which you all did in 97. But I don't think anyone even slowed him down his senior year. He gained a lot of muscle during the offseason before his senior season. That 98 team was just ridiculous. I'm not talking about Concord or Wesleyan, not that there is anything wrong w/ playing there, but you were talking major college football and Tynes was the only one that played D1 from that team. Like I said, Tynes and Dews could have IMO. Amaker was an All American at Tusculum.
  16. I hope you're not referring to me Sources. I don't think this game is already won for Weir. It's going to be a tough game, but I think Weir will win. It was 03 total, not 02. We threw to other receivers that game as well. Our passing game was just clicking. No offense, but your DB's didn't make bad plays against Turner. He just had them outmatched. He was a great WR in HS and is going to have a successful career at WVU. He and Barrett from Martinsburg are actually pretty good friends. They met at the North/South game when they were the two starting WR's. Anyways, about the bad play Crow made in the endzone, he timed his jump too early, and Perdue made a great catch. I think the past two years, Weir and Bluefield have been pretty evenly matched. As for the 97 Bluefield vs. 98 Weir, I will not back down from my opinion that the 98 Weir team would have won. Q was so much better his senior year than his junior year, and that's scary b/c he had an outstanding junior year. Plus, with the addition of All State WR Ryan Jeter who went out for football for the first time as a senior, WR Ricky Thomas, and QB Nick Galardi, that team was as solid as they come on both sides of the ball. It's sad that I know more about Bluefield than you do. Tynes was the only one to play major college football and that was at Marshall. Dews could have IMO and so could have Dissibio. I don't think Dews went anywhere. Dissibio was supposed to go D1 but he went to a prep school and I think he just gave up on football after awhile. Not all of that Bluefield team played college football, even though a lot of them could have.
  17. "anything can happen... Bluefield went to Wheeling 2 years ago with too much talent to lose. We were by far the best team in AA that year" Whoa, you weren't "by far" the best team in the state that year. That was my senior season and we came down there and gave you all you wanted. Another time when we should have beaten you. We had you stopped in the first OT and it was 4th and goal from the 18, but our DB made a bad play on the ball and Perdue caught a pass in the back of the endzone. We went to the 2nd OT and fumbled the snap on the 2 yard line going in for a TD to tie it up. Eric Turner caught 3 TD passes and had 250+ yards receiving. "They will end there state dreams agian as we did in 97' when weir came to town with Q. Wilson and got stopped. They where Expecting a easy game." NOONE from Weirton were expecting an easy game. I was there and Bluefield's team was stacked that year. That 97 team was good, but already had 2 losses going into that game. Granted they were to two very good football teams in AAA Wheeling Park and Indian Creek(OH), but that wasn't Weir's best team of the 90's. They had a stacked team in 94 and lost to University High School in the semis on a last second pass. And you seem to forget we came back to go 14-0 and win it all in 1998 led by Q. IMO, that 98 team was the best AA team in WV's history. If they would have met up w/ the 97 Bluefield team, Weir would have come out w/ the win.
  18. Weir's got too much talent to win it this year, and I'm not saying this to stir up trouble. You'd have to see their team to believe it, b/c Wayne didn't until we went down there and beat them at home by 15 and that was a good Wayne team. Weir is going to come out focused and I know for a fact they're not taking the Beavers lightly. I talked to most of my friends that are still on the team and they are definitely are going to come out ready to play.
  19. I can't wait to see Weir come out in the red and black uniforms. The last two times we've played Bluefield, and our last state title appearance(98), we had to wear the red and white uniforms b/c we were the lower seed. We also had to sit on the visitors side when we played #1 Dupont on the Island in 98.
  20. It just depends on what kind of year they're having. When we renewed the contract w/ Edison, they had just gone 9-1 and won the OVAC AAAA title. Now they are down, but what can Weir do about that. Also when we started scheduling Buckeye Local, they had gone 10-0 and won the OVAC AAAA title the year before just as Edison had done in 02. Oak Glen had some very good teams from 00-02. Derrick Stickles is now the all time leading rusher in the WVIAC and he was a great RB at Oak Glen. Also, what can we do about Logan? They got matched up w/ us in the playoffs.
  21. Almost every other sport is towards the southern part of the state, yet people still complain it's in Wheeling. Please don't compare Mitchell Stadium to Wheeling Island Stadium. Turf or not, there is no comparison. And I've been to/played at both places enough. If there was another HS stadium around the state nicer than the Island, then I'd have no problem w/ them moving the Super Six, but facts are there isn't. Football-Wheeling Soccer-Beckley Boys Basketball-Charleston Girls Basketball-Charleston Wrestling-Huntington Track-Charleston Baseball-Charleston There is only one major sport where the state finals are held in the northern part of the state. I just don't understand why people don't like Wheeling Island. Wheeling has the nicest facilities, plenty of good hotels, and great restaurants.
  22. Thanks, and I am glad to be back. Going 12-0 into the semis is very impressive, especially if you had to previously go through Bluefield to do it at Mitchell Stadium. I am sure you will be back in the top 5 in AA again next year. Unfortunately, I don't know if Weir will. They will have a good team w/ enough talent, but like Bluefield this year, will be inexperienced and young. Their freshmen class this year may be one of the most talented to come through Weir since Q's class. They have lost one game and that was by 2 points in 03. I see Weir being 6-4 or 7-3 next year w/ a playoff bid, but nothing like the run they put together this season. Hope some of the JM fans make it up to the Super Six this year. As hard as it was after we lost to Bluefield, I still went to all of the games last year and even met up w/ some of the Bluefield fans from this board.
  23. Hate to break it to everyone, and I'm not trying to stir up anything, but as long as Wheeling puts in a bid they will hold the Super Six. The WVSSAC loves holding it in Wheeling b/c of what the local businesses do for the game and how great the players are treated. Personally, if I were playing in a state title game I'd rather play in front of a packed house and the best HS stadium in the state by far is Wheeling Island. I have been to Laidley and I just don't think it's as nice as Wheeling Island.
  24. I am going to say this, JM had a great season and congrats to all of their seniors on setting the standards for future teams. You guys beat Bluefield once and gave them a run for their money the second time. I'm not going to bash your team anymore. I apologize for what I said about the Mavs earlier. Again, congrats on a great season.
