  1. I'm not kidding. JM is not a solid AA contender. Bluefield will destroy them w/ one of the weaker Beaver teams they've had in past years. I hope Weir or Wayne meets JM in the playoffs this year. It will be a good warm-up game for the Island!
  2. Quincy Wilson and Zac Cooper are 1&2 for Weir in terms of career yardage.
  3. Congrats Garon. Put this kid on any team w/ even a mediocre line and he's running for 2,000+ yards and 25 TD's. It's just a bad situation where he doesn't have any blocking, but you would never hear him complain. I firmly believe he will be on a D1 roster next year. Hopefully that roster will be WVU's! LOL
  4. Congrats Garon. You're a great RB and I know you will get some D1 offers and they will be well deserved!
  5. [ QUOTE ] I'd love to make a trip up there this year [/ QUOTE ] Both trips I've made to Bluefield as a player and as a fan were both fun. Two of the greatest HS games I've ever been involved w/ or witnessed. The trips to Charleston for the state basketball tourney are also a lot of fun. Weir will not be traveling anywhere this postseason, unless you count the 25 minute trip to the Island. I'm not worried about Bluefield or Wayne and you can say I have no class but I've listen to all the Bluefield fans run their mouths the past two years and I've taken it in stride. I even came home from college to go to the state title game w/ a few Bluefield fans. Oh, and the backfield of Josh Smith, Corey Lyons, and Brandon Sperlazza is BY FAR the best in AA this season, so keep thinking w/e you want. Weir's skill position players are second to none this year as far as AA goes.
  6. Only this time it will be in Weirton and you will have to make the 5 hour trip. The reason Weir isn't usually ranked #1 or #2 is b/c they play a tough schedule. They lose a few games but they always are extremely competitive in the playoffs. What other team was even in the game against Bluefield last year? I don't lack class, but I've had to listen to the jokes from Bluefield fans since we lost my senior season in 03 and now I can brag a little bit. Weir most likely run the table in the regular season, but if they slip up they will go no worse than 9-1 putting them in the top 3 in the state. I just want a chance for the Red Riders to play Wayne in the state title game so all the speculation can be put to rest!
  7. Weir has had two very successful seasons, and I believe this year's seniors won't settle for anything less than the state title. Like or dislike Weir, but they will be playing on the Island December 2nd. I'm tired of hearing about how Bluefield is just inexperienced but they are still have the most talent blah blah blah and that Wayne is a great team even though they gave up a AA state championship game record 69 points last season. However, the worst is JM b/c they think they have one of the top programs in the state. I'll say this, you want me to shut up then either Wayne, James Monroe, or Bluefield beat Weir this year and you won't hear from me again. I'm that confident it won't happen!
  8. Some of you guys are amazing. Bluefield_Rules just admit that Weir is the more talented team this year. I'd love to see Bluefield meet Weir again in the playoffs so just make sure you win your 6-7 games to sneak in at #15 or #16. Wayne doesn't have the athleticism to play w/ Weir. Sperlazza is definitely the best QB in AA and he has two of the WR's in the state to throw to. The funny thing is, he doesn't have to this season b/c he has two RB's in the backfield that will eclipse 1,000 yards by the end of the regular season(one doing it in 8 games b/c he sat out the first two). I'm not being arrogant, I am just stating what I'm almost sure to be true. I've seen Weir play this season and they are destroying their opponents. They are playing w/ a chip on their shoulder and taking noone for granted. I wish good luck to both Bluefield and Wayne and hopefully we'll see both of you in the postseason!
  9. [ QUOTE ] Pretty sure it won't take that long to get back on the winning ways at BHS. Unfortnately for Weir, the road to Wheeling STILL runs thru Bluefield. Nobody has taken the ring off those fingers yet, my friend. So don't make room in the trophy case up in Weir quite yet. Still a lot of football to be played in 2005. [/ QUOTE ] Think what you want but Weir has outscored their opponents 136-12 so far and is just looking abolutely dominating. Even Bluefield_Rules said on another message board that Bluefield just doesn't have the experience or talent this year to be a senior dominated team like Weir. Weir has went through too much dissapointment w/ the two OT losses the past two years to Bluefield in the playoffs. They have worked that much harder in the offseason and have a new coach who is an excellent leader. If Bluefield loses another game or two the road to Wheeling won't have a chance to run through Bluefield b/c they won't even qualify for the postseason.
  10. Bluefield loses by 14-21. Marcum runs for 250+yards and a 3 TD's. Bluefield just doesn't have that explosive team this year, but I'm sure they will be back to their winning ways in the next few seasons. They are a storied program and like Weir, they don't rebuild they reload.
  11. One of the guys that is a moderator on TriStatePreps.com put together these unofficial rankings. The WVSSAC rankings won't come out until week 4 I believe but he knows how the rankings work so these should be correct as of now. 1. WEIR (12) 3-0 31 10.33 2. WAYNE (11) 3-0 30 10.00 3. SCOTT (12) 3-0 28 9.33 4. JAMES MONROE (11) 3-0 27 9.00 (tie)LIBERTY HARRISON (11) 3-0 27 9.00 (tie)LIBERTY RALEIGH (12) 3-0 27 9.00 7. MOUNT VIEW (10) 2-0 16 8.00 8. GRAFTON (11) 2-1 22 7.33 9. 12. Tom, isn't it funny how Weir is sitting at 2-0 and #2 in the state and Bluefield is 0-2 and sitting out of the playoff picture lol. Anyways you can believe me or not, but everytime I make a prediction like that I'm usually very close. Let's see Weir lost to eventual state champs Bluefield in football and we all know what happened there, they gave up a big lead and lost to eventual state champs Logan in the state tourney in bball, and were runner-up in baseball after winning the state title. But Weir is back this year and they reloaded in football and Bluefield is most likely not going to be a factor in AA, so I see them having an easier road to Wheeling than in the past two seasons. But look out for Weir's bball team, and I'm serious this year. They only lose 2 starters, but return all state forward Dan McWhorter and talented guards Nick Morris and Jason Gatto. Also, Brandon Sperlazza who last time he played basketball led the freshman team at PG to a 1 loss season and freshmen tourney championship is thinking about coming back out for the bball team for his senior season. And the biggest news, Weir's got a transfer. Eddie Hayden, cousin of Eric Hayden who starts at center and defensive tackle on the football team, transferred from a Groveport High School near Columbus, OH. He's 6'8" and has attended Nike 5 star camps. The front court for Weir this year will be 6'4", 6'5", and 6'7". It's looking good for the Red Riders in the fall and winter. Their baseball team won't be near as good as in the past two seasons, and they might make it to Charleston to the state tourney, but won't contend for a title IMO. They lost too much talent from a year ago. Think what you want, but I will stay confident about this season.
  13. Getting back to the original post, I never meant to talk down on your program, but I just am confident that Weir is the best team in the state and was about even w/ Bluefield last year talent wise. I just don't think JM has the talent to play w/ Weir, but you do and we both have our own opinions. But you called me out on this thread and I had to say somethin. But good luck this season and maybe there will be another Weir/JM matchup in the playoffs.
  14. I'll say what I want b/c JM was the #4 team in the state and Weir was #5 and the game was never in doubt from the first play. Weir has a certain attitude and they had that confidence as soon as they walked off the bus. And to say that Weir doesn't play anyone is a joke. Last season Weir played A state champs Wheeling Central(w/ an enrollment of 450+ they should be AA), OH playoff qualifier Indian Creek, Brooke(AAA), John Marshall(AAA), a tough Riverview OH team, and I could go on. All the teams I just mentioned would have beaten JM. The OVAC is a tough conference in every class(A-AAAA). I respected JM until the game and their fans were so arrogant. Sure I have a right to be arrogant. I mean come on now, if Weir beat you guys that bad how can you talk? ghs73, how would you know if Weir was a top team in AA this season. They were the ONLY team to play Bluefield close last year, and most people, including me, know they should have won that game but it's over and this season is here. Honestly, if you beat Weir then you can talk but until then you can't. I also said that teams have down years, but if you have a good program, you reload quickly which is what Bluefield will do. Bluefield fans can't stand the people from JM. I mean it's pretty sad when you're so jealous of their program that you have to come all the way to the Bluefield to the Weir playoff game, sit in the Weir section(the same fans that were talking smack on Weir), and root against Bluefield. Again respect is not given, so beat a quality opponent and it will be earnred!!!
  15. That's not the point. They talk like they are an elite team in the state. Weir was AAA until their enrollment started declining and 1995 was their first year in AA. They won many titles(5) in AAA and even won back to back titles in 60 and 61. JM just doesn't have the athletes to play w/ the top teams in AA. They play a weak schedule which gets them into the playoffs and almost every time they get embarrassed. I had no problem w/ their team until I got down to the stadium and had to listen to their arrogant fans. They were quiet after two state records fell right before their eyes. Weir was just that much better than JM and they will be this year again, deal w/ it. Bluefield, Poca, and Weir are IMO the top 3 PROGRAMS in AA. They might have down years, but they always reload eventually. If JM wins a state title, then they can talk. And to talk about a school that consolidates getting used to a new system and all doesn't necessarily mean they won't be a good team. Take Riverside, they went to the state finals their first year in existence and have made numerous trips deep into the playoffs since then. If JM is 9-0 going into the Bluefield game, you better believe they won't be undefeated after no matter how down Bluefield is this year. I honestly hope that JM plays Weir again b/c the Red Riders will hang 60+ on them again and have their 3rd team in by the start of the 4th quarter. I don't like Bluefield but I respect their program and their fans. Respect is earned, and honestly JM has done nothing to earn that respect!!!
  16. No, I have some friends from Bluefield and they all agree that you're program is a joke, plain and simple. You have never won a state championship. Weir and Bluefield have had some classic battles the past two years. The only battle JM had was to get out of the locker room first at halftime so they wouldn't have to go through another half of embarrassment. Weir could have put up 100+ if they wanted to. Weir High has won 6 state titles, 5 in AAA and are coming off two great seasons, so yeah I can say Weir and Bluefield are two of the elite AA programs along w/ Poca. Bring that sorry excuse for a football team to Weirton this year and the Red Riders will pick up where they left off, and I can guarantee that!!!
  17. First of all, if your school has never won a state title, you can't talk. The JM fans thought the Mavericks would destroy Weir, but the game was over by halftime b/c James Monroe is not a good program. They play a weak schedule and their ego gets inflated and then they get a reality check when they play a real opponent in the playoffs. Keep thinking Coop and Crow were the whole team last season and you will be in for a rude awakening. Josh Smith ran for over 100 yards along w/ Cooper running for 150 yards on a great Bluefield defense and although Cooper is lost to graduation, Smith is not. Dawand Smith will be one of the best WR's in the state this year and he returns. Weir returns around half of their O and D linemen. Don't forget about Jason Gatto who caught Spaz's 8th TD pass against your sorry defense last year. You also forget Corey Lyons would have been one of Weir's RB's last season but was ineligible and didn't play. He's back this season and will help Weir's rushing attack out a lot. The talent is there and now w/ the addition of new Head Coach Eric Meek, Weir is going to make a run at the title. Just hope you don't have to meet the Red Riders again b/c no matter what you say, the outcome will be the same! When your program gets on the level of Bluefield, Poca, or Weir then come talk to me!!!
  18. [ QUOTE ] WeirFootball ...I guess if we were all as great as Weir thinks they are, we would all win championships..Somebody should have told you that you have to play four quarters, not quit the last three minutes. [/ QUOTE ] How many football state championships does James Monroe have again? That's right 0. Weir has 6 so don't talk about state titles. Weir didn't have to play four quarters against JM. The game was over by halftime haha. The JM fans that I talked to before the game didn't give Weir a chance. They thought the Mavericks were going to walk all over Weir. I knew it wasn't going to happen, especially w/ that ridiculous offense they run. It's so predictable and easy to defend. [ QUOTE ] Good grief folks it is all about match ups...James Monroe fans know that Weir was a stronger team last year...It is not about rankings....Its about schedule...I am a JM fan and follower, however I knew last years JM team did not match up and it would take a perfect game to win against the Red Raiders...It changes from year to year...The JM teams of the late 90's would have easily mached up with Weir and maybe the Weir teams would not you never know...It goes from year to year and rankings in the WVSSAC really mean nothing...anyone can win at any give time....Just go out and play the game! goodluck to all teams Friday night...It truly is the best time of year. [/ QUOTE ] It's the Red Riders lol. Anyways, I heard your best team at JM was the 2002 squad. I've met Nick Newberry through one of his teammates on the baseball team at WV Wesleyan who is a friend of mine and he said they had a very strong team that year. He was the only JM supporter I talked to at the game that didn't guarantee JM would win. I hope you're not serious about the JM teams of the late 90's matching up against Weir. In 1997 Weir made it to the semifinals losing to a great Bluefield team by 14 points. They were one of the only teams that played Bluefied close that year. The following year Weir went 14-0, winning the AA state title and Quincy Wilson set every WV HS rushing record imaginable. There was no way a JM team would have beaten either one of those squads. I've talked to many Bluefield fans and JM is known for playing a weak schedule, going 9-1 w/ their only regular season loss coming to the hands of Bluefield, and then taking an early exit in the playoffs. I hope Weir and James Monroe meet in the playoffs again this year, only this time it will be at the friendly confines of Jimmy Carey Stadium in Weirton!
  19. [ QUOTE ] WEIRFOOTBALL...I also remember the game at Bluefield also. lol [/ QUOTE ] Yeah I remember that game. It was one of the greatest high school football games I've ever seen. Both teams battled until the end and unfortunately it didn't go as expected for Weir. However, I believe you were 9-1 entering the playoffs and the only loss was when Bluefield destroyed you in your last game of the regular season. You could have got another shot at defeating Bluefield, but that's when Brandon Sperlazza threw for 8 TD's and Jack Crow caught 5 of those TD passes(both state playoff records) in that 63-22 warm-up game for Weir. The only reason I say this is b/c James Monroe fans didn't give Weir a chance in that game. I remember their fans thinkging that Weir didn't stand a chance in that game, but they were quickly proven wrong. Then the next week out of jealousy, those same fans came to the Weir/Bluefield game and were cheering for Weir b/c they can't take it that Bluefield is a great program and JM's team just doesn't match up to them.
  20. I'd say Bluefield will beat Princeton 24-14 and James Monroe will not beat Shady Spring that bad. It might be by 1-2 TD's. James Monroe should be used to games that aren't close. Remember the 63-22 playoff game w/ Weir last season when James Monroe was actually ranked higher than the Red Riders? lol
  21. I'm sorry to hear about your QB. Hope he has a speedy recovery. I'm sure Weir will be seeing Bluefield in the playoffs again. I have a feeling Bluefield is just inexperienced and will get better as the season progresses.
  22. beaverever, if you had to go out on a limb and pick who would win it all in each of the three classes, who would you pick?
  23. Have they ever won any state championships in anything?
