  1. if so here are the rules The playoffs are a little over a week away, so we've opened up entries for the contest. As it was last year, the first round of selections involve choosing the sectional/regional winners. You need to pick the winner of each section and region in each class. After teams qualify for the state tournament and the pairings are announced, the one doing the pick'em (csudave) will post a second thread where you pick the winners for all of the state tournament games. Note : You cannot pick any team to advance in the state tournament that you did not choose to qualify for the state tournament. For example, if you pick Morgantown to advance to Charleston, but Wheeling Park goes through, you cannot pick Wheeling Park to win any games in the state tournament. Scoring will go as follows Correctly picking a sectional winner will get you 1 point regional winner = 2 points quarterfinal winner = 4 points semifinal winner = 8 points final winner = 16 points So each round in each class can get you a maximum for 16 points. Your total score will be the sum of all of your scores from all 3 classes. Tiebreaker will be points scored in the AAA final (we'll pick that later). Once again for this round of selections, pick all of the sectional/regional winners. if you're interested in doing so just follow the link provided... and have fun! also note entries for the game will stop as of the first Boys sectional game.... http://p205.ezboard.com/fwvhighschoolbasketballfrm1.showMessage?topicID=3015.topic
  2. nope Matt is actually closer to Bluefield this yr than he is Westside Matt is the head coach of the 9th grade Princeton team! i was hoping to still see Matt at Westside this yr but apparently Princeton offered better things than sitting under his dad and Nick Cook one thing about Oceana, they have put some good talent and coaches through out WV or at least southern WV Matt being the head coach of the 9th grade Princeton team Jason and David Mathis being the Head Coach and Asst. Coach at James Monroe Coach Hopkins and Nick Cook @ Westside that's a lot of talent there almost wish we could have all them coaching in some form or another for Westside....lol
  3. oh yeah i remember those i was like what the heck? but still despite all that, a great game with a tourney like atmosphere for sure! best of luck to the beavs, i believe i'll be seeing them again in charleston!.
  4. yeah its true Chris Robertson was the kid he made the basket for logan, tried to lob it from one side of the court to the other side where a teammate was and in the midst of doing so the ball some how found its way into the basket and i'm like you fellas i'm not gonna say Logan didnt get there fair share of shakes, but it was nothing like it was when you guys played against Wyo. East there was questionable calls and obvious missed calls on both ends really...
  5. Matthews had a decent night tonight, you could tell his ankle injury was still a factor had 7pts but they all came in the 1st qt. after that he was not to effective for Bluefield Moore is the real deal, he had 25pts for the Beavs, i also like Ponder and Hammond, Jordan while was good at points i thought Logan did good on him on the defence end as for home cooking eh you can say that if ya want, most of the fouls that was called was legit, i would say only one or two was questionable IMO Bluefiled had it to win, but they kept letting Logan back in the game Bluefield had a 4pt lead at the end of the first, 7pt lead at halftime, they had a 5pt lead at the end of three, but they kept letting Logan back in this was in no shape, form, or fashion a rim job like when you guys faced Wyo. East, trust me on that... Bluefield does have the talent and speed to do well this yr, question is if they will play with the intensity they seemed to have tonight, i'm like the rest of you beaver fans and say if they play like they did against MV they wont, but if they play like the did against Logan, they will be fine... and special notice for CB Green, had a great game tonight, 30pts total for him and Brett Campbell went unconscious from the three point line hitting 5 or 6 from down town big win for Logan, just hope they can curb some of that enthusiasum (sp?) and get rid of some of that momentum so that Westside can pull it out Monday...lol
  6. i gotta be honest with ya, this is a real surprise to me, i thought Both Bluefield and Logan would win there games tonight, but didnt (for those that dont know Logan lost to winfield by a final of 57-54) anyways, maybe this is why WS beat MV so bad? maybe MV was looking ahead to bluefield, as i heard someone say earlier in the sports season matches with Bluefield is like MV's own personal superbowl, i actually got a little tickled Tuesday night at Welch when the announcer said Bluefield would be in town Friday night, got a lot of boos and then a chant of bring on Bluefield... the fans seemed more pumped for that game than the current game MV had going on with WS... anyways it will be interesting to see who bounces back and wins tomorrow night at Logan i'll be honest with all the Bluefield fans and tell ya i hope it will be Logan, because i dont Logan to be anymore fired up than they will be for Westside on Monday...lol
  7. yeah two good showings against Wyo. East and MV (which is good IMO seeing how we gotta face East in the sectional match up and if we get by them, MV in the regional match up) btw both games will be played at the RCA East is on March 1st MV is on March 8th (both on Wed. night, which for the record i hate those dates, cause of having church on these nights) but hopefully we can keep the intensity Davis and Blankenship having been doing really well as of late, Shawn Clark still seems to be a shooting slump, he nomally makes two or more three-pointers in a game and did hit any against MV last night but that's what i like about our team, when we are playing like we have been against East and MV anyways, seems like when one player may not be hitting someone else is able to step up and take his place i'm still hoping for a good yr for the renegades time will tell i guess...lol
  8. if MV play against Bluefield like they did against WS last night, Bluefield will be able to win without Mattews or Payne WS's 5'9/5'10 Justin Sizemore grabbed him 10 rebounds alone against MV last night and we held our own in defending Thomas inside MV has missing wide open lay ups and everything like that really, just looked awful i think Bluefield will win Friday at Welch, but it will be a tough battle in Logan Saturday
  9. WS makes it 3-0 with MV the game was pretty tight nit between the two teams for at least 1 qt. anyways MV came out strong took a early led against us, but WS battled back, there was about five or six lead changes in the first qt. alone until Westside went ahead 17-16 to end the 1st qt. in the 2nd qt. Westside broke loose and started gaining momentum against MV going ahead by as much as 12pts before MVs coach Brown called a timeout by then i believe the lead gotten to big for them as by halftime the lead had grew to 16 (43-27) in the 3rd qt. WS's Chris Blankenship scored 10pts alone in this qt. to help increase the Renegade lead, in this qt. MV battled and got it back within 12, but would be as close it would get as WS would battle back to a 19pt lead after 3 with a score of 62-43 in the 4th qt. MV would continue to battle and give there best showing of the night, scoring a total of 21pts this qt. but it was a case of anything MV shot, WS said they could meet that or do better and continued to hold on to there lead in the end WS won by only 17 but could have been much more as Coach Hopkins put in the reserves with a little under 2 mins to go. WS had the lead as high as 25 at that time, MV would cut it down to the final score. Chris Blankenship would score 29pts Tyler Davis would have a double double with 18pts and 14 assist Justin Sizemore was close to having his own double double as he would have 8pts and 10 rebounds Marcus Gunter and Shawn Clark would also have 8 pts leading scorer for MV was James Edwards who has 4 three-pointers in the game big factor in this game for MV was the fact they would miss wide open lay ups, would come to the basket and the basketball would bounce off the back board as if they was passing the ball to someone, i believe had the maid more of there easy lay ups the game would have been much closer than it was. anyways next up for WS is Pikeview @ home on thursday Westside struggled against them earlier this yr, allowed them to hang around and even take a 1pt lead at one point in the 3rd qt. but in the end WS would end up winning in the 4th qt. by 18 or so hopefully this time around WS will be able to take care of business early and be able to start focusing on Logan and there match up on Monday by the way best wishses to the Bluefield Beavers Friday and Saturday against MV and then Logan the Logan match up should be a great game!
  10. if i'm not mistake Davis was in 4th or 5th grade when he moved to Pineville and then in 8th grade when he moved to Liberty each time i think it was a thing of being closer to work for his parents
  11. yeah, i dont blame the Beavs for doing that either it might up-set or displease some of the fans by the games not being at "home" but still to be a regulation size floor (like the one they have at charleston) will be better in the long run Oceana use to have a lot of the similar problems, there gym was so small, that it worked to there advantage when other teams that had this big long gyms came in they would be thrown off, but when Oceana went to there place they'd be thrown off themselves, and then when in Charleston found themselves getting weak and run down quicker too when WS came about coach Hop. made sure of a regulation size floor and seems its helped in our conditioning as i said i think it will be for the best of the Beavs in the long run...
  12. hahaha there was no recruiting done there Davis is a home grown Wyo. Co. boy use to live in Oceana, then moved to Pineville and played for them in his younger days, then moved to Liberty and decided last season that he wanted to come back home to Wyo. Co. and play his final season with guys he grew up with and around for the most part as a youngster actually during the summer leagues he made sure to always play on the WS teams, for some reason...lol anyways i'm glad he is at WS, he does make a big difference he asst. ratio is unreal, some of the fakes/no look passes/drives he does to the basketball just leaves me shaking my head he had is best game all season against Wyo. East on Friday night, hopefully he'll be able to keep that intensity through the rest of the season, if WS could get him to step up and help out with Clark and Blankenship there could be a good trio going on there and things could look good for the Renegades. but its as i said to a friend of mine, one game at a time, i said last week the best way for WS to get out of there midseason slump they was in (epsecially after losing to Indy @ home) would be to come out and win against Wyo. East (and we did) and the best way to continue is getting quality wins to help moral and the best way to do that is by going to MV tomorrow and winning, beating up on PV when they come to WS on Thursday, winning against Williamson when we go down there on Sat. and then beat Logan again on Monday Feb. 20th when we go back down there to try and have our 2nd games with them again
  13. dont let the score fool ya my friend East had as large as a 15pt lead and blew it the Westside come back started about the 2:30 mark when Justin Sizemore made 1 of 2 foul shots and WS would go on a small run before halftime and cut the lead to 8 @ 27-19 the 3rd qt. belonged to the Renegades as Westside would go on a 21-4 run against the Warriors and pretty much seal the deal, at the end of the 3rd WS would go from being down 8 to being ahead by 9 @ 40-31 and then in the fourth just kept adding on to the lead for the final that you see player of the game is easily Tyler Davis, when this kid played like he did against East, WS will be hard to be, he scored 18 points (a season high) had numerous assist, and is just a joy to watch, last night he had to unreal plays for the Renegades, a no look pass to guard Shawn Clark, and then he drove to the basket only after fooling his defender into thinking he was gonna pass it off just an unreal night for him and not just him but two other Renegades, in Chris Blankenship and Shawn Clark (both had 18pts as well) in the two meetings WS and East has had, both teams have scored a total of 104 points a piece, that's a combined total of 208 pts the rubber band match up (and the one that counts) is in sectionals and it will be played at the RCA, only thing that worries me is that East already has playing experience and time on the RCA floor, for most of the Renegade players its been a whole yr or better since the last time they played there, + we've got a few that's never played there i'm hoping East experience on the RCA floor doesnt pay off for them. should be another classic battle between the two schools come the first week of March
  14. wow how many times do you all play Princeton? you guys done and meet twice this yr havent ya? also what's the dates on those games with MV, Logan, and Princeton?
  15. thanxs for the ray of light...lol as i said i hope you are right and as i said hopefully coach hopkins and cook will be able to get things turned around!
  16. one has to wonder if they will or not! i honestly believe had we played Logan that Sat. night we would have lost! just cause of the way we've been playing, i mean its sap sorry stuff i personally hope you are right and that they do turn it around, i guess time will tell.
  17. by a final of 52-37! Westside totally stunk up the place! didnt look like Westside teams of old! i venture to say if WS continues to play like they have over there last 3 or 4 games, WS will not be Charleston come March! dont believe me? against Scott they only score a combined total of 8pts in the 2nd and 3rd qts. against JM they was only able to win by 10 in what was considered a foul fest. facing MSA (at home) they was only able to win by 5 and struggled for 3 and half qts. (trailing most of it) and then losing by the large amount to medicore team in Indy at home!!! this is not Westside basketball to score only 37pts at home anyways, is not WS basketball i'm hoping coach Hopkins and Cook will be able to turn things around, but to have 4 straight games where you struggle and the tourney coming up on us very fastly really worries me!
  18. i can tell ya right now that MSA is tough they can just about do it all, they can shoot the 3, rebound, run up and down the court good, press good, i mean you name it and it seemed as if they almost did everything to perfection the key word is almost i'm not gonna say like some of my WS counter parts have that MSA probably played the best game of there season against WS last night, cause i dont think that would be a fair judgement seeing how last night was the first time i'd seen them, but it could leave one to think that, when it seemed like everything that they put up for three and a half quarters went in! i believe MSA could really give MCA all they want and them some in the game come March. as for Westside just seemed like they wasnt there at the game last night, almost like they had there minds else where, maybe they was side tracked by the fact of the Wyo. East players being at WS last night, taunting them and what have ya, but one thing is for sure last night was not WS basketball and not what me and others as WS fans are use to seeing as WS basketball fans thankfully we was able to keep the game respectfully close and pull it out in the end!
  19. twopac i sure pray to God that you are right! East really scares me, i still say the way to beat them is by stopping Caldwell, the thing is trying to stop him! Oak Hill did it, but it took him injuring his ankle to do so, i dont wish no harm to the kid, cause he's a good player and all, but hopefully coach Hopkins and crew can come up with some good defencive scheme to stop him and help get the Renegades, back to charleston!
  20. this is a sad, just a shame that a match up that could have been probably one of the better match ups had to be determined by the officals i dont guess it hurts if your Wyo. East to have a Wyo. Co. man doing officiating either! i would say better luck next time against East to Bluefield, but then that would mean no WS in charleston...lol....so i will say if East should beat us come sectionals and Blfd. and East gets paired against each other at states better luck then!
  21. maybe not but still to my knowledge it is the first time they've meet on the basketball court since then so i would consider it one of sorts. anyways best of luck to both teams, i still gotta go with the Beavs in this one
  22. i hope your right WS struggled with JM earlier in the season, actually it was the first game of the season, WS had had some pretty nasty showings at time, like last week, they scored a combined total of 8pts in the 2nd and 3rd qts. against Scott but still was able to come out with a 15pt win i'm hoping how soon we start a complete showing...lol as for the game, i dont know for sure now if i will get to be there, had a previous engagement i was planning on attending on Thursday night, the good thing is the engagement i was gonna attend is going from Thursday-Sunday Morning, but the deal is the ppl i was gonna go with are going on Thursday, so i dunno what to do now...lol decisions, decisions...lol
  23. just curious didnt see it on the news nor can i find it on any of the other boards, maybe a JM fan on here could help me out
  24. nope its Thursday evening i was thinking it was Sat. afternoon like its always been but found out they switched the days around with the Single A title game not sure why, but none the less you have the right days...lol
  25. Bluefield and Wyo. East will meeting in the AA championship portion of the Coal Classic in a rematch from the 2002 semi final matchup in which East won by 10 Bluefield beat Pikeview very convincingly tonight by a tinal of 58-39 on the other side, Wyo. East seemed to have a struggle with Liberty ®, beating them 58-44, East is hurt right now with out play of starting PG Justin Caldwell who is out with an ankle injury (from the inside out) he is reported to be out for 2-3 weeks (if not longer) should be a great game and one i intend on being at!
