  1. I'm not so sure the PH job has been officially filled yet.
  2. First of all your first sentence in point number 3 makes no sense. Second of all, I never said Eastboundanddown was Crigger, I just made a statment. HMMMMMMM. Third, if your gonna be head coach, better get some thick skin. I will bang on who I want to and if it hurts your feelings then stay off the board. Ever heard of dishing it out but not taking it? Finally, B.I. went to castlewood after St. Paul and not JJ Kelly. You can respond if you want, but I really mean I am done with this thread it's stupid now.
  3. I'm not saying the I formation is the answer at all. You are missing my point. Let me put it this way: Just because someone lines up in shotgun and has receivers split out doesn't mean they are running a spread offense. The way compton did it was not true spread. I formation is not the answer but I will say that a runner with a blocker in front of him might be better than throwing the ball down the field (where two bad things can happen) for 2 downs and then running draw on 3rd down every series. Now I started this whole thing with the simple premise that there was a disconnect with Compton and the kids. Then Junior got on here and said "no he tried everything and was great with the kids." I tried to stay away from critisizing his offense, but I was left with no choice. The offense didn't fit the kids. A good coach would realize this and try something else, make some adjustments. Then Junior (Meaty_2) gets on again and says, "no, it wasn't the offense. Richlands and everybody else in the world runs it so it must be good." He says its the kids. This is my last statement on this and I am done with this topic it is starting to bore me. A GOOD COACH DOESN'T BLAME THE KIDS, HE BLAMES HIMSELF. Compton always blames the kids, and that's where Junior hears it. I think it was Bear Bryant who said "If the team does bad, I did it. If the team does OK, WE did it. If the team does great, THEY did it." I'm done with this.
  4. I have had the priveledge and I do realize this. However this wasn't a "mid-stream" adjust situation. This was the same for basically 3 years. I watched plenty of film on PH and against Appy 2 years ago they (PH) ran wild out of I formation and then would fizzle out when they got into shotgun. I am not against the spread at all. I just didn't see much innovation and taking advantage of the positives that you are talking about out of Compton's style. Plain and simple the offense looked out of sync and inconsistent. That is two things the coach controls. My OPINION is that offenses that put speed in space and take advantage of blocking angles, misdirection AND have a consistent running attack are best for teams with the type of kids PH has. MY OPINION. However, here is a FACT that is plain to see: Square peg (PH kids) does not fit in round hole (PH Offense).
  5. Listen all I am saying is that the offense didn't fit the personnel. If a coach is too stubborn to change and be flexible depending upon what personnel he has then he deserves to lose. If the spread offense was the end all answer to all offensive woes then everyone would be running it and all games would end in a tie. Sorry. Aint' gonna happen.
  6. Dude! Thanks for proving my point. Richlands and VHS have athletes. Therefore the offense fits the kids. If PH is trying to do the same thing without the same athletes, it AIN'T GONNA WORK, AND didn't work genius. That's why we are all saying that PH should have been using a scheme that fit their kids and if they did they wouldn't have been 6-24. A good coach don't blame the kids, he blames himself. Thanks for proving my point Junior, you made my day.
  7. I agree with most of that. I am just biased against trying to take what works in college and the nfl and forcing it on HS kids. That's just an opinion though. But I agree with what you are saying.
  8. Seriously I think that someone who would come in and continue with the positive and connect with the kids in a way like Matlock has at Holston or Witten did at JSB or Tom Turner at Appy AND stick with an offense that boasts a consistant running attack could do well at patrick henry. Who will that be? I don't know. We will see.
  9. New developments tonight. Heard Tommy Crigterd is putting in for the PH job. Looks like the 1-29 record he sported at TV got some heads turning. I don't know if he will get the job though. Last time he coached at PH he flipped off the home fans. Reckon they will remember that?
  10. Actually Riverheads uses Hugh Wyatt's Double Wing blocking rules and it's Inside Gap, On, Down or Inside Gap, On, OVer, Down, depending on if you are at the POA or not. Then they pull their G and T to either kick out and seal on the counter or both seal inside of FB's kickout on power. I was at the state game this year and they ran power and counter 99 percent of the time. They tried one trap and one or two waggle passes and that's it. 2 plays got them 69 points. Patrick Henry's blocking scheme was no where near the same.
  11. You are so defensive. you are either compton or his son. And that first sentence made no sense whatsoever.
  12. No alex gibbs. Joe bugle was at the redskins but I am talking about the wide zone pregression. Alex Gibbs not joe gibbs.
  13. Depends. Is it a zone read or are you taling about reading the EMLOS in the veer, the B gap defender in Midline or what? If it is zone read, then you block it the same but instead of sealing the 5 tech or cutting him off you read him. Same blocking though. Now if you are talking about the wide zone that Gibbs and Bugle made popular in the late 90's (Denver Broncos) then it is different. But that is a stretch zone play and is actually one of the easiest plays to run in HS football because you don't have to get movement, just seams. But I do agree your linemen have to be quick and have good feet. And it is better to run from under center with TE's and H backs.
  14. You got that right. The play you are talking about pulling the guard and tackle and reading the end is GT read. If it was just the tackle it would be tackle trap read. I have seen some schools zone block successfully if they count the defenders in the tackle box correctly and make sure you get a good push on the double teams. Haysi has been successful at that in the past, especially when Bubba was there. But it takes some coaching. My son's crunch bunch team "blocks a gap" haha It usually doesn't work so they just give it to the fastest kid and tell him to get to the edge haha Maybe that's what PH was trying to do.
  15. You blocked a gap? HAHAHAHAHA That explains alot. Thanks. Now I know why their qb got sacked 67 times. Maybe he should have taught them "who" to block rather than a gap. I've never seen a gap sack a qb. Hahahahhaha
  16. Oh well if that's the case then I guess he should get coach of the year and a raise. If he truly connected with the kids, then he wouldn't talk about them to other coaches at coaches meetings, clinics, etc.
  17. Nah, been there done that. It takes to much effort and I'm getting lazy in my old age. It's alot easier to sit back and tell everybody how to do it than to actually try. I guess they really should just close it down. Maybe start a boy's volleyball team.
  18. He may have attempted, but obviously there was some kinda disconnect. You can design all the programs in the world and have 20 superbowl rings and not connect with the players and build nothing. Looks like that happened.
  19. Use motivational tools, rewards. Those who attend lifting the required days get first choice on equipment. T-shirts, honors, plaques. I mean, is it that hard to figure out? Patrick Henry isn't the only school to ever have lazy kids.
  20. I don't buy that. There are things that a coach can do to get kids out to lift. Just have to be smart, motivated and be able to connect with the kids.
  21. Well let's see . . . . split back veer, double slot option (like navy), wing t, double wing, straight t, olivet wing t, bay city t, pretty much any offense where the blocking scheme is set up to allow for the linemen to block straight ahead the least amount possible (multiple angles) or for there to be double teams at the poa (point of attack) would be better than what he tried to do. Heck, you can even line up in shotgun spread, but have wing t sound and proven blocking fundamentals for your line. He didn't do that. He lined them up and said "zone block" which don't mean a hill of beans to these boys and then got mad and disconnected. As far as saying it to his face, I have talked with him before and he knows how I feel about him. Thanks.
  22. Hey genius if their O-line doesn't block well and compton had one of his assistant coaching the O-line that shows how stupid he is. Why didn't he coach them? And as far as being full of crap, that thin skull of yours must be full of crap because obviously you had so much of it in your eyes you couldn't see that compton's offense didn't suit the kinda kids he had. Heck Helen Keller could have won 7 games with Ronnie Groves. That ain't chicken crap.
