  1. But according to YOUR AD the vote was completely confidential -- today was the Region IV voting -- I can't wait to see the results
  2. Where did you get the results of the votes -- I haven't seen it yet? As for Hunter she HAS been invited to try out for UVA Charlottesville and she turned down scholarships at ETSU and Ferman (South Carolina) both D1 schools. She applied early admission at UVA and found out Dec 1 that she was accepted and on Dec 2 got the offer from the UVA recruiter to walk on. Thats facts -- As for Sutherland -- she is no doubt a great player -- Again where are the SWD all district team results available at?
  3. I beg to differ with you -- if Tazewell did not have their freshman they would not have made it as far as they did. Tazewell has been known to have freshman on the varsity -- and after a year of two it really pays off -- look at last year when they made it further than ANY girls' team in SWD history -- they were not especially bid or fast -- they peaked at the end and played their games with heart -- I was impressed. As for my 1st team selections for the SWD girls PLAYER OF THE YEAR : Allie Hunter -- playing at UVA Charlottesville next year and has played the role of teacher for those young players. Not to mention that she is a McDonald's All AMerican Selection and a Wendy's Heisman nominee 1. Allie Hunter (Tazewell) 2. Samantha Rice (Grundy) she has been Grundy's secret weapon for 4 years -- she is unbelievable at the charity stripe. 3. Courtney Edwards (Carroll County) the most consistant shooter in the SWD. 4. Jessi Watts (Carroll County) good at the point and a good outside shooter. 5. Jenny Keene (Richlands) she carried RHS this season and last -- if she's on RHS was in the game -- if not they were not. Second Team Selection: 6. Kristen Roberts (Graham) 7. Kayla Roberts (Graham_ 8. Sydney Webb (Carroll) 9. Courtney Brooks (Tazewell) 10. Loray Spade (Graham) But this is just my opinion
  4. The coaching had very little to with Graham's success -- any team that has 4 kids to move in and 3 of them over 6' the other being the team's new starting point guard should have a much improved record. I would like to see how she would have done with the those girls that are truely from Graham. I went to several of their games -- and she had no discipline with those girls -- their new point guard would mimic Coach Wyatt from the floor -- I was much surprised with that. When they played Carroll at Tazewell for the playoff game their #24 was really out of control during the 4th quarter -- I was not impressed -- now if next year she has a Graham team and her record is this improved then I would be willing to re-evalulate my opinion.
  5. Well I don't think he can kick him off the school team according to VHSL. My reason is that a coach can have only so much time with kids prior to the season and if he is kicked off a team in the summer that's first official practice is not until the first week of November it would appear to the powers that be that the coach is spending a little more time than allowed by VHSL with his team in the off season. Check the VHSL website and call the men's basketball coordinator for the particulars.
  6. Tazewell's JV beat Richlands' JV 6-0 in the SWD tournament championship game. Tazewell has only 8th graders on this team -- several of them (at least 5) I would expect to move to Varsity next year.
  7. Tazewell and Richlands JV play at 4pm and Tazewell and Richlands Varsity play at 6 pm. Tonight Richlands started their freshman pitcher and she did an excellent job both on the mound and at the plate.
  8. Tazewell girl's bball has beaten RHS for years noy mention softball
  9. Tazewell's #3 is Whitney Davis last years SWD and Region IV player of the year as well as 1st team All State -- she plays first base and had 2 triples on Friday -- The other Tazewell player sliding into base is Tiffany Harris a sophamore. Richlands catcher is Emily Mahone. Good Game -- Hopefully these two will be the teams to represent SWD in the Region. If I were Richlands's coach I'd start Lester -- and hopefully their 3rd baseman will be able to play next week -- she's out due to appendectomy
  10. In addition the the upcoming freshman point guard they have a 2 guard who is a strong outside shooter she and the freshman point guard read each other really well. The 2-guard can split a defense wide open with passes down under -- they will have about 3 potentially good post players entering high school and the 2-guard I mentioned could be a fourth post player if need be -- she can also handle the ball pretty good and could run point if the point guard needed a few minutes to rest or was in foul trouble. I hope the freshman point guard will watch and learn from the rising senior point guard -- she has all the potential in the world and is so talented with a basketball, but the rising senior guard could teach her a few things about running a team and taking control of her team -- she has a great coach and a great player to learn from -- This team should be competitive for the next four years.
  11. I agree Tazewell's girls team should be competitive but young -- they do have the Southwest District and Region IV player of the year returning and she alone can make things happen -- they'll need to really work the post position they are strong on guards for the next four years -- Grundy will be the team to watch again this year -- Tazewell should be able to beat Graham and Richlands and at least split with Carroll, but Grundy is big and had experience on their side -- Grundy as a really good rising sophamore coming back -- in Buchanan County though 8th graders can play JV which makes a difference.
  12. I agree if anyone wants Tom Keene give me your address and I'll deliver him myself. I would hope that someone in administration would listen to things that have happened in the past and continue to happen today and tell him good bye -- as for his teaching skills to begin with he teaches only 3 classes and he misses on average 1-2 days weekly teaching due to meetings for athletics. It is my opinion that in the classroom he does just enough to get by -- but again that is only my opinion. I truly hope he doesn't try to assign himself at the baseball coach and I don't think he will because he has a power house of a JV softball team this year with 12 8th graders and not one freshman or sophamore and they are 18-1 and 6-0 in the district. The one game they lost was 1-0 to VA High and earlier this week they beat VA High 4-1. He is setting on four more years of success in softball without any work -- I hope some great school somewhere offers him some great deal and he moves! One can always dream I agree if Lou wants the job it is his -- the baseball boosters provide everything for the baseball team as does every other sports boosters at Tazewell -- for some reason the school can never afford uniforms, bats, balls, weight equipment, or anything for that matter.
  13. Tazewell's JV softball team shut out Richlands' JV softball team today -- 10 - 0. Tazewell and Richlands will probably play again in the District Championship later on this month.
  14. I think Lou will remain the baseball coach for at least 3 more seasons and possibly 4. Aaron Buchanan should be his successor
  15. Richlands freshman pitcher pitched a perfect game.
  16. Actually I was wrong - Tazewell's JV softball team is 16-1 They have VA High home and away and Richlands home left on their regular season schedule
  17. Tazewell is 15-1 they lost 1-0 to VA High on Saturday at the Castlewood JV Tournament. Richlands travels to Tazewell on May 12 for the second game of the year -- it should prove to be a good one.
  18. Re-scheduled for Wednesday at 4:30 at the Richlands Recreation Park
  19. Ask the Richlands JV team if your not sure they are ALL 8th graders -- these two teams have played against each other and with each other many times in the past. They all seem to really like each other. Tazewell's schedule appears a little harder than Richlands -- they have played Bland's varsity twice as well as Pocohontas' varsity and traveled to Tennessee High a AAA school and faced their varsity pitcher and to Castlewood and played in a tournament and faced Rye Cove's varisty pitcher -- they had a scrimmage at East Ridge HIgh School in Kentucky and faced a tough team there in very weird wind conditions -- But we all know that in order to be better you must play better competition when possible. But there is no doubt about it this will prove to be a GOOD GAME -- these two teams always play each other well -- I think these two will meet on May 12 at Tazewell and the Richlands date has not been set but will be on Monday --it was canceled due to rain last week, But I promise you ALL of Tazewell's JV team is in the 8th grade and there are NO hold backs either -- several girl's are still 13 years old.
  20. Higher seed for Region IV -- neutral site for Region C
  21. Anyone want to venture on where Grundy's Sheppard will play next year or even if she is still VHSL eligible? I know that has been questioned many times over this season. According to VHSL rules you have 8 semesters to play after entering the 9th grade -- this will be 8 for her -- just not at the same school --
