  1. where r those golden wave posters now?
  2. [ QUOTE ] That would be Jimmy Hess and Wade Lopez. If they get it, they need to bring in legendary little league coach Dale Cox. Hess played basketball at Grundy, never football. Just another example of everyone thinking they are a coach. Wade Lopez is an Abington boy, who played in the 80's. I thought Jimmy was going into "fighting middle school coaches". Heck of a sport, where you yell and coach from the stands and want to fight the coach's dad afterwards. [/ QUOTE ] I wish I had all the time in the world as you guys to waste away the day and bash Abingdon. It's pretty sad that you guys have no more character than that. As far as the level of money and success that has come to Abingdon in the form of work, I think you are a little hurt that the coal money left your little flooded town and came to Washington County and left the rest of you guys floating. Further, as far as football goes, we try our best with what we've got. No excuses. No pitty parties over here. We want a better program and maybe one day we will; but we have a lot of heart and character that will carry us beyond our football years and pay off in the real game; life. About Wade Lopez, get your facts correct. He doesn't want the job. He just is a zealous father wanting the best for his son and you can't tell me that anyother father is different. Also, he didn't play in '80s. He played in the late '70s and 1980; starred on the region iv championship team. 1st team all-state defensive end in the season of '80; played four years at Concord College where I believe he was first team all-conference a couple of years. By the way, he played there with Plymal. So he has done more than help at the little league level. He's forgotten more about football than all of us put together know.
  3. I think you better do a little research as to the offensive approach Abingdon takes to any game. To say they might run the ball 10 times a game is niave. Abingdon put up over 200 yds on the ground against Tazewell and CC plus a balanced attack against Va. High and the Wash. Co. schools. Abingdon's offense is set up to run. The spread just tries to keep the defense off balance. If you think all Abingdon will do is pass on Friday night then the wave will surfed all night long by Carson #34.
  4. I believe Abingdon has the better team on paper regardless of the huge win against CC. Grundy is down considerably this year but has regularly beaten Abingdon seriously over the last several years. It will be tough to travel that far and even harder to play there. However, Abingdon is better than most will acknowledge. The main thing about Abingdon is that you never know what team will show up. They have a mixture of hard fighting emotional games, like the CC game, to the inability to finish what they started, as in the losses to Va. High and Tazewell, and then the team that didn't want to play that lost to Honaker. I think however Abingdon will be able to capitalize from last week and win by about 2 tds.
  5. Graham 48 Tazewell 21 Abingdon 21 Grundy 7 CC 35 Marion 14 Don't know enough about the other games to voice an opinion.
  6. Why did this topic turn into a synopsis of whether or not Richlands will beaten (probably not) or whether they will not win the SWD? This was simply a question about a game they had nothing to do with. Give Abingdon credit. Yes, they're not the caliber of team of most in SWVA; however, they are improving every week. One play separated them from a victory on the road at Tazewell and one play against Virginia High ended the same. Abingdon plays the schedule they have. They were so close in those games and should have won them. With their adversity this year, the kids have had to face something that no team in this area has had to except for the sudden losses of Coach Carlock and Appalachia's coach; and they have responded as winners. Be respectful enough to give credit where it is due. Abingdon flat out kicked CC's ass last night and the 3 points on the board was no indicator as to the closeness of the game. Abingdon will continue to do what they can each game and each season and all other schools can continue to trash them and poke fun. But there will be a time where it is the asses of the others that the Falcons will unexpectedly come out and kick. Thank you swvafootball for adding to the motivation of this team that will continue to give them something else to play for.
