  1. Just read in the Virginia Mountaineer that Lucas Shortridge signed with Bluefield College. Congrats Lucas! Good Luck!
  2. Derek Hess from Grundy High to Pikeville College! Congradulations Derek, best of luck in your career in Pikeville and what ever it may be you decide to do as far as the classroom goes as well (which is most important). It was a great honor to watch you lead your young team to a few regional tournaments. I can tell that the game runs in your blood and you will continue to work at getting better. You have some of the best ball handling skills around here! Good luck Derek! I have heard rumor that Gunner McGee from Richlands High will be heading to Bluefield State. I am not sure if this is correct, but if it is best of luck to you as well. I think you have a good college basketball build and will do just fine with wherever you go! You also have an amazing shot, if you start to heat up, its hard to get you cooled down! Good luck...if anyone has any additional info on his choice please inform! I am assuming that Mars and Brewster from Graham High will be doing something in athletics in college, also very good players and always very consistent. Brewster with his athleticism and Mars with his knock down shot, also would like some info on where they are headed. Lucas Shortridge from Twin Valley High to Bluefield College. If he had not went down with a knee injury the BDD and Region D would have been affected, and possibly even the State tournament. I have heard his surgery went fine and will be okay to play in college. The fact that he is 6'4 and a guard helps. He could be the most athletic player to come from SWVA in a long time, knows the game very well, and is gym rat. Good luck Lucas in your career! Josh Smith from Twin Valley surely is getting a few looks from local schools, his size will hurt overall, but he should wind up somewhere. Wherever it is you go, keep being relentless and working hard and you will do just fine. I know alot of us always critisize these young men, but they are just in high school. I think they deserve alot of recognition and congradulations for their acheivements! Good luck to all of these boys and represent our area well!
  3. Twin Valley did beat the Red team by about 40 some at Twin Valley that year. When they played the Red team at Oak Hill, Twin Valley lost by 2 in OT. I just looked it up online.
  4. sorry for my longtime no posts....I have seen all these teams in camp this year. Hurley will be good, but they are being built up way to much! Honaker is very under-rated. They are quietly going to be fighting for the number 1 spot of the district this year. Council has nothing inside, and are very very slow, them and Haysi who just has Flemming should be battling for the 4 spot. TV are the veterans, with only 4 or 5 returning from 3 straight district titles, 2 or 3 tourney titles, and state runs. They have leaders in Smith and Shortridge. But will need help if they want to make another run. Honake in my opinion will be battling with TV for the #1 spot. I agree in that no team will go undefeated though. Hurley's time COULD be the future, if they will quit building themselves up and just play ball. They have talent but need to pull it together, should be a very interesting season!
  5. Wow, that all sounds impressive. Now with the girls, I think the girls will do good with the temendous back court of the awesome Lester, and the solid point Gilber (i think). But down low they lose alot with Street. Some told me that she sort of hurt the team? That sounds crazy, she helped so much, evey team needs one of those (kind of like the boys' Smith). I think they will be hurting with a tough district and no inside game. How do you think they will fair.
  6. Well, I agree on all of that pretty much. Someone could bump up and bite them, but it will not effect the outcome of the season. Horne leading them in the back court is a player who makes other players better. Simpson uses his brain to absolutely do what he wants. And Smith is a huge beast. Now with Shortridge, I hear his dedication is unreal. One of the coaches (a coach of twin valley basketball, i will not say either boys or girls or the age group he coaches, just so you all wont heckle all the coaches) told me that Shortridge is in the gym 24/7. And he carries a basketball around in his arm all the time?? Is this true haha? Well thats called loving the game if its true. Burniston has alot of quickness and flashes. From what I saw last year he can stop on a dime and shut down anyone. Big Adam " Beefy " Keen is a huge defensive presence. Any of these players could star anywhere else IMO. Therefore I agree with what you say Hokie. I definately look forward to seeing these players mesh together for one great run. Keep filling me in on stuff, and please give me your opinion on these things.
  7. Alright hokie, so who do you think will have standout years for the panthers and what are your season projections??
  8. JV boys obviously honaker, and Varsity boys obviously Twin Valley. What I cant figure out is how honakers jv team always beats tv, when in varsity its the same tv boys from jv beating honaker. I think its because when Honakers jv boys get to varsity they only care about football. And its the opposite for Twin Valley. Id say the TV boys are working so hard. They have about 4 or 5 players that could be stars on any other team in this area. Does anyone know more about the work ethic of either of the teams???
  9. Yes, the boys coach will be Jeremy Ratliff (the girls head coach last year.) And the girls head coach will be Ben Jackson (the boys jv coach last year.)
  10. I have recently found out that Big Joe Yates from Haysi will be sitting out the basketball season to work out football. Hurley was in the accident at High Point University and are recovering from that, our prayers are with the Rebels. I know that the Council Boys Basketball team has finally found a new coach, so they are on a good path. I know that Twin Valley has been going to camps this year as well as Honaker. And Twin Valley destroyed Gate City at their own camp. Any other updates on what the teams are doing to prepare for the season?? And any summer predictions for the BDD in 2008-2009?
  11. I know who he is. He will be in my thoughts. Is this going to affect him playing sports this year?
  12. What is the kids name? So I will know who to pray for?
  13. From what I understand, he is still undecided between baseball and football. No school is chosen yet from what I understand. Sorry If I could not inform well enough.
  14. Wow, I went to the last day of the Gate City Camp. Twin Valley was by far the biggest suprise. I mean I knew these guys would be good. But they destroyed St. Paul and Gate City. They beat down Gate City by 25-30 or so. One word WOW!!
  15. If they win tonights game 4..it is all over.. not only for the pistons but for the NBA. The Pistons and Celtics are by far the best 2 teams in the NBA. Any Predictions? Mine is 106-104 Pistons with two clutch free throws to end it..
