  1. correct me if im wrong but i dont recall radford winning the state at all in recent years (since 1999 up to current) b/c they were beat by nandua, clarke county and others. i only remember them only making the state quarterfinals and falling short for a few years in a row, even with the great players they had like whit, henry reed, and company. i will admit they did beat us fair and square a few times so dont pull that card out but im just stating the facts that they definitely didn't get tired of "winning the state title with one loss" to graham and such b/c that would require them to have won it after your team beat them.
  2. as much as i am a fan and coplayer with some of the players from the team and all no i dont think they would. they play against the weakest...and i do mean weak competition of the MED. the teams have improved some but galax still beats them with ease by at least 2-5 goals each game. galax and carroll has been a good game the past few years with them beating carroll (which never happened before i graduated) and i have to say honestly they wouldn't be that good in the district. they couldn't handle the physical, rough play of the rest of the district b/c that's how you slow down and beat their style of quick, short pass style of game. they have never been able to improvise and handle the game being changed to a slower pace. they're good b/c they suck every team into trying to play the same addictive, fast paced style of game and very few teams can beat them at their own style b/c they'll simply just outscore you instead of make it a 1-0 game. so no galax would not be that great in the district and would easily get stomped in regionals just like all the other SWD teams have.
  3. my bad i thought he was talking about the guys and girls. i knew it was bud jeez that's even worse than i thought. i had always heard hidden valley's field was small like marion for some reason so it created a more speedball style of play so my fault on being wrong about that.
  4. like i said before..b/c of demand on gas prices and all lately. plus fan base for the teams still representing.
  5. not surprised. graham's goalkeeper wasn't that good and if you could control the midfield you could beat them. they were dominate in SWD b/c they knew how to move their formation up and control the middle.
  6. regionIVfan is right. i was looking at the percentage and they had 80 goals for, 4 against in 13 regular season games. no team scored more than 1 goal against them in a game during regular season and closest was the last game against cave spring 2-1 at cave spring for hidden valley. they were pretty much averaging 6.16 or so goals a game against their opponents in a good district and strength of schedule. no one in our region is going to slow hidden valley's women's team down. a region I or II team may somehow be able to surprise and give them a great challenge since they will be playing on a much larger, closer to regulation size field at state's then the marion-like, hidden valley field then they are used to, but i still think they'll dominate. btw even though it doesnt matter your stat of 29-0 is innacurate. it's 29-1 as you reported in your score updaates but you know someone was gonna point that out even as miniscule as that is.
  7. with that resume i have to agree. i guess with him signing with william and mary instead of somewhere like UVA in our state that is known for producing some MLS caliber players he's doing what many of us should have done and is sign with a school he can play for and also get a great degree at. i mean william and mary is a great school and once he finishes his 4 years there he's going to easily get a job in whatever profession he chooses to pursue with it.
  8. regionIVfan has seen a lot of games over the years since i know he's the same guy with that same screenname from virginiapreps. i recognize the lingo and language in your typing as very similar so im assuming im right that you are the same person. however i gotta agree with them and say you always have had a negative view on all of the SWD, actually most of region IV other than when martinsville came out and showed up in states a couple years ago. i mean the SWD teams like carroll, graham, and tazewell have played well against teams like abingdon, marion, and martinsville before the district realignment and if anything they have proven to come closer to being evenly matched in recent years then they were in the past "slaughterhouse" matches of the likes. if i do recall bburg was impressed with carroll county the time they played them in the state tournament back in 1999. bburg was only disappointed b/c the star play of marco canonica was not involved with teamwork but with him individually trying to win the game. we'll just see if one of the underdogs can be motivated enough to pull the upset b/c upsets are going to happen.
  9. if this was a few years ago it would simply not come up. but with constant rising gas prices this summer and the economy the way it is i can see it being a logical choice honestly. it just has to be fairly done for the next couple years that the other districts are hosting the regional to ensure things just in case somehow the piedmont or river ridge "hypothetically" didn't make a semifinal or final like the SWD is "hypothetically" not going to. i only say hypothetically b/c despite the lack of respect the other districts in the region give the SWD there is always a chance any dog will get it's day. soccer is historically the sport with the MOST "upsets" in the history of sports so you never know what may happen at the high school level.
  10. well you could just put 6 blind nuns on the field with 1 chuck norris and that's all it would take. haha.
  11. i think it's tunstall is what someone said...i may be wrong?
  12. correct me if im wrong but didnt several other players score on you? and isnt that the idea of how to play the game is to control the midfield, maintain possession, and get the ball to your forwards to score? now how about you take your own words and use them in a game. maybe when you show you can actually play on the field you can join the big boys table with the rest of us.
  13. blasphemy...erroneous on all counts. it only takes one chuck norris to do anything. you better be sure to look under your bed and say 6 bloody mary's or something to be sure chuck doesn't come after you for that. haha.
  14. graham beat abindgon 5-0 is what i was told. i may be wrong on the score, though.
  15. i guarantee the concern over rising gas prices is a major contributing factor to that. i could see doing it b/c there's no point in making the fan bases of the other two districts travel further. i guess they were picked to host if this occurs b/c they were next in line for next year to host otherwise the opposite district would argue why they didnt get to host it.
  16. amazing how things change overnight. i was just looking at it yesterday and impressed with them being ranked #2...but wow #1. expect the scouts to be lining up at states even more than ever this year at radford university for the state competition
  17. [ QUOTE ] well damn ladies, if I would have known we were all reliving our HS soccer days, I would come up to good ole East River. I don't think there would have been much more "[censored] talking" [/ QUOTE ] amen to that. let's get greg, the rest of the degrays, a few of my CC teammates and we'll just have a good old fashioned free for all since we can't move past it. haha j/k. even though it would be fun to get a lot of the alumni from all the school's (the degray's, a few CC people i know, matt the goalkeeper for tazewell back up to when i played in 02 my final season) and just mix it up and have a good time. to reiterate the importance of the thread, though, congrats to carroll for a convincing victory to clinch a regional spot and congrats to tazewell for another classic rivalry game gone to the wire.
  18. [ QUOTE ] The Hidden Valley girls will easily roll through the regionals tournament. They are better than when they won the state title two yesrs ago. Blacksburg gave thme the most trouble with HV winning 1-0. There is NO ONE in the SWD or Piedmont within 5 goals of Hidden Valley. I mean Graham is one of the top SWD teams and lost to the #5 seed (Christiansburg). [/ QUOTE ] i have to wholeheartedly agree. SWD is edgingly getting closer and closer to being competitive with the river ridge, though, since many of the younger programs are starting to get club teams together to travel and play in tennesse, north carolina, and the rest of virginia. i look forward to watching the hidden valley team play for the first time when i see them up here at radford for states. let me know when ya'll put up a region IV bracket for the girls b/c im curious to see how it's going to look.
  19. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] What about Grundy? you left us out!!!!!! OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOhh! Next year is our year..... [/ QUOTE ] Year for what? Winning the SWD? Wake up Alice!!!! [/ QUOTE ] haha. hey region4fan i was looking on the blacksburg site and roanoke times to see if i could find any information on the region IV bracket for the women's varsity tourney. i was wondering if you had received the information for it yet? i know carrollfan is supposed to put it up later tonight but i wanted to ask and see. it looks like hidden valley is going to just dominate it. i can't believe their goals for (80) and goals against (4) differential in the 13 regular season games they played. that's insane.
  20. congrats on the shutout.
  21. yeah. i saw that he called for his fouls when they were there to be called. like i said im sure he's being punished for laughing about it on the sidelines. maybe if you spent more time on your game instead of worrying about the demeanor of other players you wouldn't be getting shut out. it didnt affect the outcome of the game so lick your wounds, move on and start training for next season b/c all of this complaining is pointless.
  22. he got the yellowcard for the play you are talking about so why are you complaining? also, i don't recall him coming back in the game for a while after that so i think he was punished fairly enough. if not im sure the coach is going to make him run at practice b/c she doesn't tolerate that kind of play. i felt the referees did a good job of making calls to protect the keeper. there's always going to be players on the field that use their strength more than skill and speed so you as a team have to learn to adjust and overcome that.
  23. shouldn't the girls be pretty much exactly the same except for where you put names of certain teams that would be the #1 seeds of the district?
  24. yeah that's what i heard. greg has some great knowledge on the game. that's good for the team b/c out of all the brothers i liked greg the most and we graduated same year and all. he was way more mature for his years then his brothers on the field. we had a passionate, bitter rivalry on the field but honestly he was the one i didnt despise at all b/c he was the most mature. he was one of few players i would do more than slap hands with and say good game with after a game b/c i had a lot of respect for him on the field. i just remember terrance starting a fight with one of my teammates (which we all know terrance was prone to provoke so dont dismiss it as me taking my friends side), and well eric was just way too cocky in my opinion. he was good but he was nowhere near the caliber of his brother greg on offense and all. i dont mean to be taking an approach and disrespecting anyone's parents in the stand but their mother was one of the worse, most verbal fans i've ever seen in my life. she was right there in the box verbally abusing officials and some of us if we made foul on any of her sons. i understand that's a parent in the stands but she was right there pretty much on the field like a coach and the players fed into that. hell i remember one of my teammates cussing her out for good solid two minutes without saying a single word other then a curse word just b/c of how she was acting while in that upper area where the scorekeepr was and all at the complex (which is THE best field in SWVA for soccer). lol. i was so glad neither of them got kicked out but both should have been, especially my teammate b/c of the behavior he displayed. i honestly am glad to see after all of them graduating and all it seems graham and CC has become more relaxed and about sportmanship over the past 3-4 years.
