  1. I think the jury is still out on Kelly...until they face PV, Burton, Clintwood, or maybe even Appalachia I'll not be sold on them. They have a pretty decent team but I'm not sure how good they really are. They'll have to beat an opponent of signifigance before I bump them up out of the "decent" category cuz they lost alot of players to graduation. And, last year was their "up" year cuz they actually beat PV for the second time since Atari was invented...lol
  2. Don't get me wrong, I'm not criticizing Hurley's players or coaches...I'm criticizing the schedule. I pull for whoever wins Region D in both divisions until they are eliminated. Then if Region C is representing in the State Title game, I pull for them. Same way with the AA schools as well. If Hurley made it to that point, I'd pull for them to win...all I'm saying is that a weak schedule doesn't make a team better, and it doesn't gain a team any respect either.
  3. You can call B.I. alot of things, but loser ain't one of 'em. Before a team puts a game on their schedule against a team coached by B.I. Salyers, they should be advised that if he can score 100 he will...he don't care to run it up.
  4. Those teams aren't unbeatable...but it'll take a tough ground game and hard hitting defense. The past few years, most of the Single A schools takin the trip upstate have taken a spread offense (or some other "finesse" offense) upstate with 'em. The problem is the teams upstate have a greater number of pure athletes on their teams...and that adds up to a "L" for the Region C/D representative trying to out finesse them.
  5. ...and Montcalm..and so on and so forth. And the sad thing is, it took that kind of effort vs. St. Paul and they didn't even have their best player on the field...their QB to boot. But, it's like this, even if ya do get in the playoffs, you'll get a dose of Clintwood or JI Burton more than likely. And either one of 'em will be just like that last dose of Burton y'all got 3-4 years ago...and I doubt that was a pleasurable experience.
  6. Regardless, they have comparable enrollment to Twin Springs, Ervinton, St.Paul, Narrows, Covington, Rye Cove, Pound, Appalachia, and JI Burton. Any combination of that 7 is a stronger schedule than every weak school in Eastern Kentucky and the Southern part of West VA. I've seen St. Paul this year (who Hurley struggled with) and know how horrid they are..along with most of the CD teams...and Hurley is on par with them. So, why not play em?
  7. Laughable...get a clue. When ya beat up on nobodies, you get respect from nobody. Hurley only has 3 games they HAVE to play, cuz there are only 4 teams total in the BDD. So, that's 7 games where they could schedule at least 2-3 teams worth their salt. Instead it ends up looking somethin like this: Game 1:Betsy Layne, Games 2 through 4:every "Ridge" in Kentucky, Game 5:The Ray Charles School for the Blind, Game 6:Sacred Mercy Sisters of the Poor, Game 7: The Hellen Keller School for the Deaf and Dumb....then they play the "mighty" BDD teams. That's why Hurley catches hell on this board...cuz outside of Honaker and Haysi, they don't play anybody worth a hell.
  8. Really, I don't know. I guess it's according to which team shows up. Last year, for instance, PV barely beat Lee and then lost to Lebanon...but then blew Richlands out. This year, PV looks better than last, and IMO Richlands looks about the same. Going by that, PV should have an edge...but you really can't go by that. PV and Richlands is one of those games that can go either way nearly every year. So I guess we'll see come Friday night.
  9. Oh Jesus...I read this board every single year and it never fails that early in the year Abingdon fans get on here and brag about how much they've improved...and on and on and on. Then about week 5 they get on here and talk about how the refs have caused them to lose games, and how the kids are just too spoiled to win, and how the coaches can't coach. Then they finish the year with 3-4 wins and get on here and talk about how much better they'll be next year..and then the next year rolls around and it's the same ol song and dance routine. Here's my take on Abingdon this year:...unless Patrick Henry has turned into a totally different team than the one that scrimmaged Lebanon and Coeburn, the Falcons should have beat them by 50 if they are worth a damn at all. So, IMO it's the same ol song and dance in Abingdon...and it won't be long til the excuses and whiners come out of the woodwork and do their yearly ritual.
  10. Burton has beaten Powell Valley 4 years in a row...so you think they can't defend the spread? Your pipe dream ends in about 36 hours...JIB is nowhere near as good as they have been, but they're still good enough to hang a "L" on Abingdon. Hell, 75% of the teams in SWVA except the teams in the Cumberland are good enough to hang an "L" on Abingdon tho..
  11. That's exactly what they'll do...and they'll shut ya down doin it. Over here in the LPD, the CBs are usually the best athletes on the team, and lots of the time they're on an island man to man with the outside WRs. JIB isn't the only team that does it. Wait and see.
  12. Burton will beat Abingdon going away...JIB will cover your inside WRs with their OLBs..and they are fast and rangy enough to do it.
  13. Damn..I didn't know this many folks paid attention to cheerleaders gettin run over..haha. IMO, football in SWVA is personified by a select few teams in this area...those teams being Gate City, Appalachia, Richlands, Lebanon, Clintwood, Graham, and Powell Valley..and you could even include Giles in that group if you want to go further out of the region. Those teams have brought the most glory to our little corner of the state than any of the others...and I guess that's why they are hated by the fans of nearly every other team in the region. That being said, I've always respected these teams because of the things they have accomplished...even as a player many moons ago, I never had any hatred towards my rivals because I understood that football was a game and that the folks in those other towns were basically the same as the folks in my home town. But, every place does have a few jackasses... Since I've been reading this forum tho, I'll bet most of those have a PC and user account on here..lol. But, why hate on GC?...they blasted Tazwell and that's all you can really say about that. The ref's didn't run over the Dawgs Defense, and a cheerleader or 2 getting bumped didn't affect the outcome, nor did anything else that happened outside of what happened on the field. On the field, the Devils took the Dawgs to the woodshed..pure and simple. Get over it folks, there's always next year.
  14. So, the AD's all get to suit up this Friday night?..lol JIB is nowhere near as good as they ha ve been in the past few years...but they'll chew Abingdon up and spit em out.
  15. The team with the home field advantage doesn't have to play at UVA Wise...they have for the past 2-3 years to make an event out of the Region D Finals..but they don't have to.
  16. Clintwood has the advantage in every facet of the game...Holston may be a decent team, but CW will make them look alot more like Thomas Walker than they'll want to.
  17. You wouldn't be getting hosed....get back to the half state next year and choose where ya want to play it. It isn't like CW didn't travel last year.
  18. Naw, Clintwood ain't worth a damn...you'll find that out Saturday...
  19. Yes...worry very much about CW...the Friday Night Sissy Fights for Holston are over.
  20. I'm praying that Holston wins this game. After all the BS Holston crap on here this year...it'd be nice to see an LPD team put 50-60 on em...and if the Cavs get there, it will happen.
  21. After this year, Burton will be down for a couple years...maybe not as bad as Abingdon is normally, but could be pretty close.
  22. The counter isn't had to stop as long as the backside OLB and DE are patient. Especially the DE since many are virtually unblocked when the jet sweep goes away from them.
  23. I've seen em both, and IMO Clintwood win both games.
  24. Tom wasn't overly blessed with marquee athletes...but he made marquee FOOTBALL PLAYERS out of em...the state championships attest to that.
