  1. My contention is that politicians take care of big business, not small business.I love small business, like a roofing business that hires and trains kids, who later on start their own business. This is working yourself up!But there used to be laws against getting too big.My guess is that we are not too far off as people but I have seen the evil side a little more!
  2. Each case should be decided individually. Maybe we need to balance the economy with safety and see what works best in each particular situation.Surely, you don't want our country to look like china where the government has stepped in and said no regulation on business,no child safety laws,no workers rights.I know the miners in this country would have a few things to say about that, especially the families whose fathers lives were lost.Remember, before the Olympics in China where people were all wearing masks because of the pollution. You have to weigh public safety with economic growth. Also, how can you say the BP disaster is good for business. If BP was not there the economy would be better for those gulf coast states right now. They were on the verge of digging out of a recession. Are you just for big business, big banks, uncontrolled growth, screw the small guy? I am not quite understanding your philosophy?
  3. Hudson against Hamels McCann and Escobar need to hit. Last year numbers were 14-76-299 for Escobar 21-94-281 for McCann 13-68-274 for Cabrera with Yanks Cabrera is 26 years old with ton of experience for Yanks Escobar is 28,coming into his own. McCann is only 26 If we can get these 3 to start to hit with Heyward,Glaus and Hinskie,we should have a pretty good lineup, especially with Prado continuing to hit.
  4. Glaus really knocking in runs, now with 37,Heyward with 38,Hinske filling in in left and ist, hitting well, real productive for number of at bats.If we can get Chipper to have a decent season, escobar and Cabrera to begin hitting and we have seen some improvements among those 2,we have a chance.Prado is having an all star year at second base, leading the league in hits, and the relief pitching has been better.Obviously,it will help to get Jurrjens back healthy.
  5. What will happen to residents of gulf coast as a result: Less tax base - people making less money; tourism, fishing companies, etc etc, motels Destruction of wild life People's livelihoods destroyed Should we just turn our heads and let the markets handle it or make BP pay a hefty price. There is a fine line between letting the laws work and not setting up regulations to oversee companies because what if this had been a nuclear power plant-it is bad enough.I am a gun owner and believe in that right but it is irresponsibility of the few which leads to restrictions on the many. You have heard it before from childhood on There is always one @#$% in the crowd!

  7. I was not comparing a wrong with a wrong as kids sometimes do but actually focusing on Beck.Do you actually think a trained self promoter in front of the cameras did not know what he was doing or saying whereas politicians sometimes do not have the experience in front of the cameras and are forced to defend very quickly. That is one reason why Reagan was so popular-he was very good in front of cameras-having been an actor!
  8. I have been impressed with Abingdon in baseball in the past-I remember when they beat Hidden Valley when the Titans had 3 D-1 players.

  17. go by actions and not words and I think you will grow intellectually and understand!
  18. No matter what are opinions are on here,I believe this country will be great and is great.Sometimes when we listen to the negatives,we forget about the positives. There are some liberals in New York but a lot of people expressed ownership of those liberals after 9-11.The economy will get better and the president will probably get too much credit.Bush got too much blame although some of his policies were far reaching for people who value freedom. The biggest problem is the congress, especially the senate. There is very little difference between parties and they seem to care more about their jobs than the people. We have problems but our people are too good and our government too sound to allow them to take over.Express your vote and remember vote on actions, not words. We have debt issues and a lot of these involve the population getting older. Most of the money spent comes from 2 large areas,Military,Military pension and healthcare. Most of the rest comes from small areas.Either we cut the military some,or raise the age people can stand for benefits or both and we can save money by not paying so much to hospitals and insurance companies.Because hospitals are private they do a lot of unnecessary testing-They pay for a machine and then every time they charge for it the hospital gets payed a lot.these issues need to be thought out and solved.
  19. Jacob McMillian had two hits and picked up the win on the mound for the Terriers (13-6, 5-2). Thomas Morris had two hits and scored a run for the Golden Eagles (7-12, 0-7).

  21. The Spartans (11-6, 6-2) scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning for the walk-off win. Salem's Preston Kessler hit a ball to center field that was misjudged, breaking up the shutout. Roy Stanford followed with a game-tying two-run single, and Carter Williamson batted a hard-hit ball to first base that was mishandled, allowing Kessler to score the winning run from third. Dustin Garst pitched a complete game for Christiansburg (9-8, 3-6), allowing five hits and only one earned run.
