  1. GW has a much higher level of talent than Marion, no doubt about it. Plus they wanted it much more last night to avenge their loss (only one for the season?). Marion has to play their best to compete with the better teams, and make the most of their few offensive opportunities and yes, maybe get breaks going their way sometimes. Their goalkeeper has his moments, but this is his first year of ever playing soccer (a senior) and it shows sometimes, though he has improved each game (maybe last night was a little step down, though all the credit goes to GW). The first game he started ever was against Dobyns-Bennet! I think 17 had a bad ankle sprain or worse. As for soccer field sizes, I found this on Soccerwebsit.org: The width shall not be more than 80 yards (73.15M) nor less than 65 yards (59.44m) and the length shall not be more than 120 yards (109.72m) nor less than 110 yards (100.58m); however, fields of less than minimal dimensions may be used by prior written mutual consent of the competing institutions. The optimum size is 75 yards (68.58m) by 120 yards (109.73m).
  2. Yes Marion got spanked. And yes the field was probably a factor, but Marion did not have their best offensive player and another starter, lost another one early in the game, and another in the 2nd half, all due to injuries. I;m just saying it's not just the field (what are the measurements anyway?) But GW did outplay them all around. Marion had very few chances on goal, while GW had all sorts of good opportunities and capitalized on, well, 5 of them. Congrats to GW, now you've tied the season series. Good luck on the rest of the season.
  3. 1st goal was a corner by Snavely headed in by Wagner in a perfect sequence. Another goal was Kegley dribbling through 3 or 4 defenders finishing with an excellent kick that just nipped the right corner. 1 own goal from a corner and another right in front of the goal with a crowd from both teams. Marion's goalie not challenged much. Go Canes! Winners of 6 of last 7!
  4. I didn't notice "everyone on the field stop for 5-7 seconds" but if they did, maybe it was they were stunned at the goalie's excellent move? Tazewell did dominate everything but the scoreline, and goalkeeping.
  5. I guess it would have been a difficult call for the officials to make since none of them where level with the goal. Maybe they were caught off guard by the unorthodox save by the goalie. There was also a hand ball right in front of the Marion goal by a Tazewell player that everyone saw that wasn't called. But again, Tazewell had a lot of chances to score but did not execute. So no ties, 1-0 Canes.
  6. The goalie did not touch the ball and his save you describe earlier was a good save as the ball did not cross the goal's plane. Tazewell had a lot of real good opportunities to score but were not able to finish it off - the Marion goalie did a decent job on that.
  7. Trent Snavely scores on a penalty kick.
  8. Marion lost Cole and Ampudia though, 2 of their best players.
  9. Yes Technically the AD does not do the hiring. But in reality it is his recommendation that seals the deal. And that coach from last year? He is the AD. I think the credit for Marion winning last year was the leadership of the 2 starting seniors, not Haga - Dotson did not allow the kids who are now the seniors to play selfishly, as they tended to do this year. A good coach would have done that job this year, among other things.
  10. The coach (and that is not what he is) knows nothing about basketball. He came from Northwood - who was 8-16 last year and currently I think is 9-11, with 1 win against Marion. Marion went to state last year and ended the season with a 20-13 record. With 2 starters graduating form last year's class, now they are 9-12. Bailey should RESIGN. But even more so, the athletic director Haga who hired Bailey should take even more blame and RESIGN. Several dozen qualified coaches from all over the state inquired about the Marion coaching job at the end of last season, and none were even interviewed. It was Marion's chance to finally get a decent coach after many years of mediocrity, and what did Haga do? Hire the coach from Northwood. How pathetic. They both should resign if they had any sense of self-respect. But they don't, and they won't. That's Marion athletics for you.
