  1. Yep. My bad. Realized that after I posted and forgot to correct it.
  2. GC defeats Wise Central for the fourth time this year to win the West Region. GC will host the loser of the Brunswick/East Rockingham next weekend at UVA Wise.
  3. Both GC and Central will advance to Richmond no matter who wins today. Just a matter of seeding.
  4. GC hits 10 of 13 free throws. Martinsville hits 26 of 40. Ouch.
  5. GC takes a 13-10 lead after one quarter, and then gets outscored 5-20 in the second quarter. Could not recover from that quarter. Proud of this team. Didn't think we would make it this far. Should have a pretty good team again next year.
  6. Congrats to both teams. Both teams advance to the Region Finals on Saturday at VA High, and both will advance to the Final Four. They will meet for the fourth time this year on Saturday. GC holds a 3-0 record, but all of the games were good ones. Got to admit, didn't see GC winning this one................but I will take it.
  7. GC outscores Richlands 27-10 in the second quarter to take a halftime lead of 42 - 16. GC shoots the ball better from outside, but still misses way too many easy shots.
  8. Didn't expect this. GC jumps all over Central early and didn't let up until the 4th quarter. GC led 26-7 after 3 quarters. GC gave up 4 points in the first quarter, 2 points in the second quarter, and 1 point in the third quarter.
  9. Good, hard-fought game. GC falls behind 7-20 after one quarter then outscores VA High 65-44 the rest of the way. GC will play at home, against Richlands, on the 26th. VA High will travel to Graham.
  10. I don't know either. Just asked based on what I was told at the game. No biggie.
  11. Oh yeah...............congrats to the GC boy's basketball team on winning their 15th regular season district championship the past 16 season. (Not my stat. Just repeating what i was told.)
  12. HaHaHa Now Bob, that is kind of funny. However, it is not an answer. Doesn't matter to me where they live. Just asking a question based on some things I heard at the game. No biggie if you don't know or don't want to answer.
  13. Oh, that is good to hear. We still need to beat Central. Need some kind of momentum. If we lose to Central in girls, I guess that means a 1 game playoff? Hey..............the #20 for VA High boys. Couch, Crouch or something like that. Any idea if he lives in Castlewood? I heard someone say that at the game on Friday night. Also heard the #34 is from Richlands, but something about his Dad coaching at VA High. NOT a big deal to me either way. Just wondering.
  14. We just can't shoot the ball right now. Have not shot it well for the last several games. Not sure what has happened. We missed many short shots at VA High. Missed uncontested layups. No excuse for that. I expect we will handle Central pretty easily and be the number 1 seed for the conference tournament, but could make an extremely early exit from the tournament.
  15. Where will the tournament be held? Do the higher seeds get a home game or two, or is it all at a central location?
  16. I BELIEVE the reason that Scott County allows kids to attend school in Scott County, no matter where they live, has nothing to do with athletics. It is my understanding that the county receives a dollar amount each year for each student in school, or maybe it makes it easier for the county to ask for more money if they have more students enrolled. Anyway, it is something like that. The more kids we have enrolled, the more money we can get or ask for. Once again........it comes down to money........like most things. Has nothing to do with athletics.
  17. Crap. I forgot. There were 11 cars with TN plates in the high school parking lot when I went through. You were kind of close with your guess.
  18. Bob, I think I understand what you are trying to say. Not sure that you do. hahahaha Messing with you. I would agree with you when you say: " I think/know that Gate City benefits from having kids attend school even though they live in TN. Sports or otherwise doesn't matter". I do agree with this. I honestly think most GC fans would agree with this. It is when you start talking about a "practice" that "many" kids who essentially can't compete in TN come to GC. This part is 100% wrong. Like I said, the only kid I know of in recent memory who transferred schools for athletics is a kid who left GC. BTW, I have heard this kid hates DB and may be coming back to GC. You also have to realize that it is also possible that kids who would normally go to GC are going to a TN school for the same reasons I listed in my previous post. A dlouble edged sword. "And you are fooling yourself if you do not think that (on occasion) a kid who is marginal at a huge school like DB does not cross the line to play at a small VA school" Honestly Bob, I am aware of NO kids who fit this description. I have already told you that two kids DID do this 20 years ago or so. I know about them because it IS a big deal when a kid does something like that. Believe it or not, it is fairly common for a kid who lives in TN to start and finish school in Scott County. It is almost unheard of for a kid to come to GC during high school for athletics. Heck, I would tell you otherwise if it were true. "And my first "jab" about TN annexing Gate City was tongue in cheek and not meant as a serious provocation." I know. "And I'll wager a great deal that more than a few have jumped the state/county line just for that reason." Hey....I thought you didn't wager? :) Something you are not thinking about is the tradition at some schools.........like DB. It is the same way at GC. The kids grow up WANTING to play at GC or DB. These are not kids who WANT to change schools. Kind of like your nephew. He probably could have gone to a different school, but he did not. I would guess that this is the way with MOST kids at these "tradition" schools.
  19. Bob, I am very close to GC athletics. Have been for many years. You are 100% wrong when you say " It is routine and common knowledge that many TN athletes that can't cut it at the bigger TN schools in close proximity to Gate City transfer to Gate City". You are obviously wrong that "You won't hear anybody from Gate City denying it either." I just did. I am 100% sure there are TN residents attending school at GC. I talked to a couple of them last night at the GC - John Battle basketball game. One plays basketball on the girl's team. The other does not play any sports. BTW, these are not kids who transferred to GC because they couldn't compete in TN. These are kids that started elementary school in Scott County (while living in TN). My kids have gone to school with these kids since kindergarten. The TN residents at GC fit into four categories: (1) Their parents attended GC and they want their kids to attend the same school. (2) One of their parents work around GC and they bring their kid to school on their way to work. (3) The kid got in trouble at another school and transferred to GC for a clean start. (4) The kid started school at GC, the family moved to TN, the kid wants to graduate with his/her friends. To think that "many" TN athletes come to GC for sports is funny. Like it was pointed out above, I guess that rumour does make some people feel better. Heck, if you can't beat 'em, try to rationalize/justify why you lose. Now I do remember MANY years ago that two kids, I think from Daniel Boone, came to GC so they could play football. This was probably 20 years ago or so. Have there been other TN residents that have played sports at GC? Of course. Not sure who would ever deny that. To think that there are kids coming to GC TO play sports as some sort of "practice" is utterly ridiculous. There are also TN kids at GC who do NOT play sports. Imagine that. The only kid that I am 100% sure that recently transferred schools TO play sports, is a kid who transferred TO Dobyns Bennet FROM Gate City to play baseball. This was a couple of years ago. Not sure how it works in other counties, but Scott County does NOT charge any kind of tuition for out of county students to attend a Scott County school. If you can get your kid to one of our schools, the kid can attend. Hey....I'll probably be in the GCHS parking lot in a few minutes. I'll take a quick tally of the TN tags. What is your guess?
  20. Gate City. Boys: Dylan Jenkins Girls: Morgan & Jordan Gose
  21. Honestly, GC is not nearly as good this year as we have been the last few years. Currently we have a 12-4 record. We have been winning some games by some very small margins. We have played pretty badly in our last two games. Not sure what has happened. Very short postseason if we keep playing the same way. VA High and Lebanone both would beat us by 20+ points if we keep playing like this. Now our losses are pretty "good" losses. Lost 2 games in the Arby's Classic, lost at Floyd Conty, and lost at home to Mt. Mission. No shame in any of those losses.
  22. Radford is 1A. OP didn't specify a classification. hahahahaha "They probably have more TN athletes on their squads than they do from VA." That's a good one Bob.
