  1. That's what I'm thinking. It's a lot easier to take the number 1 spot in this subject if you're a tiny, poor, and underdeveloped nation (low population and no money or knowledge to prevent something like this) as opposed to a developed, populous nation with plenty of money and knowledge. That's why they only look at the more developed nations (and as crappy as Mexico can be, it's still a lot more developed, a lot more populous, and has a lot more money and knowledge than most tiny island nations).
  2. http://now.msn.com/mexico-is-worlds-fattest-country-united-nations-report-says?ocid=ansnowex But of course the new fattest nation is our neighbor, Mexico.
  3. http://www.tricities.com/news/local/article_5afce372-df84-11e2-b153-001a4bcf6878.html The Pinnacle will double in size to 500 acres and include land in Washington County, VA. I wonder how The Falls in Bristol, VA, will fair now?
  4. Wow, I didn't know that Battle was going to be in that 7on7 today. Wish I could have went, but I'm still in Atlanta with my brother. Know of any other 7on7's or anything else Battle will be participating in this year for preseason? Or know anything about who we scrimmage this year?
  5. http://www.tricities.com/news/local/article_c00dd1dc-da06-11e2-bcdc-0019bb30f31a.html Don't know how many may have seen this, but some days ago, a pit bull attacked a 6 year old girl and then mauled her mother who got her daughter to escape, putting her in the hospital. The attack happened at the Rice Terrace Apartments near Virginia Intermont (actually the better part of Rice Terrace). I was actually kind of shocked to see that the guy had a swastika tattooed on his throat and that the dog's name was Hitler (just seems so ridiculous almost to the point of being funny.....though I'd never laugh at a situation like this). The dog (who the couple says they were just watching for someone else) was euthanized and the couple has been charged with a felony. Also, apparently the woman's sister has posted a lot of comments to the article, many of which are in all-caps. She seems pretty upset by all the comments about her sister, but what do you expect when the woman is with a guy like that?
  6. With Coach Wright's conditioning and with Coach Baker at the defensive helm, I think Battle will do fine on that side of the ball. On the subject of depth, we'll definitely have the numbers, but I don't know how good the younger ones coming up are. But like I mentioned, there's Coach Wright's conditioning to get them all into shape and focused on the fundamentals. I don't believe we'll get as good a record as last year (of course I hope we do though) with a much tougher schedule, but I at least see a winning season.
  7. Today, I've heard of a lot of benefit ideas for my brother. There's already been a car wash and community yard sale and there are more car washes planned in the future. There's also going to be a "Man of Steel" event (named because his friends have called him Superman since high school) at Sugar Hollow Park in Bristol on Saturday, June 22 from 1:00 to 10:00 with bands playing all day and other events I'm sure. There's also a benefit ride, bands, and prizes happening at Black Wolf Harley Davidson near Exit 5 in Bristol on Saturday, June 29. I am simply AMAZED at how the community has come together for my brother. We've had hundreds of people show up at the hospital to check on him and my family and his girlfriend McKayla and her family in the last 10 days. And many, many of these people are young people around his age (classmates, teammates, and such). Like one of our friends posted on Facebook the other day, Bristol may not be the most happening and exciting place, but it really is a "good place to live." If I can get the time and energy (sleeping in an ICU waiting room for 10 days straight really wears you down) I'll post more info on some of these events as I get more details.
  8. It's going to be a lot tougher than last season, that's for sure, but the biggest thing we need is to rebuild the line (which scares me...not the place you want to lose too many people). Lot of young ones are going to have to step it up this season. If they do, and we can fill some holes in the line, I think we'll be ok and could definitely have another winning season.
  9. I wonder how many bears are in the Bristol/Washington County area? Like you said, we're in the woods. You'd think with so much nature and wildlife around that more would be seen. I honestly haven't seen a black bear in this area since I was a kid (and I think it escaped from Bays Mountain).
  10. Yesterday, me and some friends went to Wallace Middle School (Battle's feeder school) to play some basketball on their outdoor court. About 10 minutes after we left, my mom showed me a picture on her phone that my sister-in-law took when she drove by shortly after we left. It was a pic of a young looking black bear crossing the street right beside of the school and court we were playing on. I guess being a bit out of shape, causing us to stop playing and leave sooner than planned, really helped out in this situation, lol. I just wonder where the momma bear might be.
  11. I actually wasn't sure if it was a joke or not. Hard to tell these things on the internet.
  12. There should be at least one new assistant coach since Strong left. I really wish Abingdon could turn things around in football. Too much potential to just be wasted to make certain people happy. I hate to see any team struggle this way....even if they are Battle's rivals.
  13. http://now.msn.com/petrona-smith-bronx-teacher-fired-for-saying-negro?ocid=ansnow11 A Spanish teacher in the Bronx was fired for using the word negro in a color lesson (and in case anyone didn't know, negro is the Spanish word for black). I'm guessing the student who reported her was failing the class.
  14. No problem! The link that Lance provided on here is working fine for me. I just went ahead and posted it to my favorites bar and deleted the other link I had.
  15. Oh, good! Glad it's not just my computer then. Been having some trouble out of it lately.
  16. Whenever I try to go to this site (usually by clicking the icon on my Favorites bar, but also does the same thing if I just type in the url) all I get is a white background with these words on it: Deprecated: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in /home/lance1/public_html/forum/includes/init.php on line 55 Deprecated: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in /home/lance1/public_html/forum/includes/init.php on line 107 Deprecated: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in /home/lance1/public_html/forum/includes/init.php on line 111 Deprecated: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in /home/lance1/public_html/forum/includes/init.php on line 119 Deprecated: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in /home/lance1/public_html/forum/includes/init.php on line 130 Deprecated: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in /home/lance1/public_html/forum/includes/init.php on line 134 Deprecated: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in /home/lance1/public_html/forum/includes/init.php on line 142 Deprecated: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in /home/lance1/public_html/forum/includes/init.php on line 211 Deprecated: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in /home/lance1/public_html/forum/includes/init.php on line 389 Deprecated: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in /home/lance1/public_html/forum/includes/class_core.php on line 2552 Fatal error: Call to undefined function cmps_template_alter() in /home/lance1/public_html/forum/includes/functions.php(2953) : eval()'d code on line 3 I've tried clearing my cookies, history, and such but nothing works and it's only doing it for this site. About the only way I can get on hear is if I search "swvasports" and click on "message board" from the search page (does the same weird screen if I actually click on "swvasports" on the search page). I know of at least one other person whose having this same problem who messaged me earlier.

  19. I thought of the possibility of it being staged......but it's still pretty funny either way.
  20. http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/dennis-rodman-rips-president-barack-obama-for-handling-of-kenneth-bae-case-north-korea-kim-jong-un-051013?ocid=ansfox11 I seriously doubt it will work, but WHAT IF Rodman were to actually get Bae released? I'm sure it'd be pretty embarrassing for the White House.
  21. Good lord. The only thing more messed up than this story are the comments for it. I don't even know what to think about it. At least it distracts me slightly from the depression I felt after seeing the Bulls lose that badly. On a related note, did anyone else notice that both teams were able to play really physical ball in the first game and not have to worry so much about fouls, then at the same location start a foul fest in game 2? (for some odd reason, this posted in the wrong thread.....here's hoping it works this time)
  22. Haha, for some reason, it posted on this thread. I meant for it to go on the one about Joakim Noah getting flipped off. My computer has been acting crazy all day....I think it's time to send her to pasture and find a new one.
