  1. Bluedevil94, I am a Galax fan and I DO NOT see CW or anyone that has made it this far "laying down." Don't know anyone from Galax that feels that way. I know that Grayson and Galax have always been rivals and maybe some of your co-workers and you have that healthy rivalry still alive. Anyone from Galax that thinks CW will lay down are just knuckleheads period! This should be an entertaining game for high school football fans.
  2. Will there be any radio broadcast of the title games?
  3. Sorry 2000Wave, just watched it with my cousin in Charlotte. He was at the game and videotaped it. We both work for IBM and had business in Charlotte and he shared it with me. Once he get's back I will see if he can shoot me a copy or see if he can put a few clips on youtube. Were you at the game? If so, you probably don't need the video to confirm both these teams were laying the wood to each other. Maybe someone who lives up there can get you a copy or footage for your viewing entertainment. Anyone else on this forum have footage of this game for 2000wave?
  4. Your right about that ISOaPBR....they had great field position set up by Lunenburg going for it on 4th down inside their own territory twice and getting stopped. Moreover, the special teams was big for Galax on the return's, once again, that set them up in great field position. That field position allowed them to have short scoring drives. Article about the game here with the stats for their game is below (Galax Gazette): Fueled by the prolific first-half collaboration between quarterback Austin Pack and wideout Deion George, Galax rocketed to a 28-point lead early in the second quarter Saturday and skated to a 50-14 win over Lunenburg Central in the Group A Division 1 state semifinals at Galax High School. The final score marked the fourth straight playoff win by a margin of five touchdowns or more for the Maroon Tide (14-0), which will face Clintwood for the state championship Saturday at noon at Salem City Stadium. Clintwood (12-2) took a 17-8 win at Sussex Central in Saturday’s other semifinal. The first 16-minute block of the Galax win was a personal pitch-and-catch session between Pack and George, who hooked up on scoring plays of 40, 58 and 3 yards. “They’ve got to stop [runningbacks] Donte [Peoples] and Jordan [Vaughan], and they put their best athletes on our receivers and made us throw it,†said Pack, who started the day 5-of-5 for 115 yards and three touchdowns. Seven straight running plays set up the Maroon Tide’s first score, coming when George used a double move to get behind Charger defensive back Tyrek Foster, and was hit in-stride by Pack for a 40-yard TD. “We worked on it all week,†Pack said. “It was a little out route and the safety came down on Fish [opposite-side receiver Jacob Fisher], and it was just there. My eyes lit up and I was like, Oh my, here it is.†A fourth-down stop, Galax’s second on Lunenburg’s first two possessions, gave the Tide the ball at its own 39. Two plays later George hauled in a 58-yard strike from Pack on a fly route. “They were playing me up tight, so all I had to do was break them off and outrun them,†said George, who had four catches for 123 yards. “And Austin puts the ball on the money. He always puts it on me, every time.†Devonte McKinney’s interception set up the third Pack-George connection. On third-and-goal from the 3, Pack lofted a floater into the back left corner of the end zone, where the 6-foot-3 George outjumped Cody Forward and came down with his third touchdown of the half. “I know he’ll go get it,†said Pack, who was 11-of-18 for 192 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions on the day. “He’s just a dominant receiver.†The third of Eli Brady’s six PATs had the Tide in front 21-0 at 8:58 of the second period, and Galax was back on the field after a bobbled kickoff was pounced on by Peoples at the Central 12-yard line. Vaughan burst through from the 4 three plays later for a 28-0 lead. Lunenburg managed an 8-yard touchdown run by Derrick Carpenter before the half. Carpenter added a 63-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter, accounting for more than half of the Chargers’ 127 rushing yards on the two plays. “They were good,†Central coach Will Thomas said. “We tried to run the ball and we couldn’t. That’s what we do. We’ve been good at it and we couldn’t do it. They’re a special group. I hope Galax realizes how special they are.†Other than the two scoring runs, Galax allowed the Chargers just 2.1 yards per rush. “Everybody had their key and got their blocks, and the offensive line couldn’t come out on us and it left our linebackers free,†said Vaughan, pulling double duty at linebacker. A short toss from Pack to Frankie Shalabi turned into a 22-yard touchdown early in the second half. Vaughan and Peoples added touchdown runs of 11 and 10 yards, respectively, to close the third period with Galax ahead 50-7. Vaughan had 53 yards on 14 rushes and Peoples added 52 yards on 12 attempts against a Lunenburg defense geared to stop the run. Repeatedly put into good position by special teams and defense, Galax started only two drives on its own end of the field in the first three quarters. Five of the Maroon Tide’s first 10 possessions began inside the Charger 38-yard line. “We found out early on that we’d be okay against the run, and our special teams started hurting them,†Galax coach Mark Dixon said. “The whole first half we were on a short field. And Deion was amazing. They kept playing a three-deep look and had everybody up in the box, and we’d do a little play-action and it was one-on-one. He kept making plays and Austin kept throwing it great.†Lunenburg Central........0 7 0 7––14 Galax..........................14 14 22 0––50 First quarter Gx–George 40 pass from Pack (Brady kick) 4:49 Gx–George 58 pass from Pack (Brady kick) 1:53 Second quarter Gx–George 3 pass from Pack (Brady kick) 8:58 Gx–Vaughan 5 run (Brady kick) 7:41 LC–Carpenter 8 run (McCrimmon kick) 1:28 Third quarter Gx–Shalabi 22 pass from Pack (Brady kick) 9:10 Gx–Vaughan 11 run (Gable run) 6:49 Gx–D.Peoples 10 run (Brady kick) 2:33 Fourth quarter LC–Carpenter 63 run (McCrimmon kick) 3:03 _______________________________ LC Gx First downs 9 15 Rushes-yards 29-127 39-152 Yards passing 65 192 Comp-Att-Int 5-12-1 11-18-0 Return yards 99 127 Punts-average 6-30.1 4-26.0 Fumbles-lost 1-1 0-0 Penalties-yards 7-46 6-69 _______________________________ INDIVIDUAL STATISTICS RUSHING—Lunenburg Central, Carpenter 3-74, Townsend 10-38, D.Smith 9-13, Webb 3-10, Williams 1-5, Foster 1-2, G.Smith 2-(-15). 5. For both teams to be in state final....my bet is both teams will hit you. Moreover, from watching video of the Clintwood Sussex game, it looks like both of these teams were laying some wood on each other.
  6. At least five on Galax go both ways. There are not deep (except at RB position, they are blessed in that area). Clintwood should definetly be much deeper in total personell (Galax 27 vs Clintwood 50 players).
  7. Yeah, Lance your right. That's why I posted, hoping some of those who went to the game (or in the know) could fill in the blanks. Those were some ugly stats and I know the other factors like you mentioned had to play into the "Mo" of what really happened on Saturday. Sounds like if you like defensive, close games this was a good one ( I always prefer these type games...keeps me in my seat).
  8. After looking at these stats for the Clintwood/Sussex game;boy, sure is misleading. After reviewing those stats it makes you wonder what happened to either of these two teams dominating size (Clintwood) and Sussex speed. I would have thought Clintwood would have had more rushing yards with that big O line and fullback. Moreover, Sussex scores 88 points the prior week and limps away with 8, who would of "thunk it." Isn't it funny how stats can never show how the games big plays/mistakes affect a team, whether on the receiving or giving end. This must have been a good offensive struggle for both teams, and it appears their defenses showed up. I mean Clintwood 7 first downs and Sussex with 11:eek:. One or two mistakes can change "Mo" (momentum). source: http://www2.tricities.com/sports/2011/dec/04/greenwave-rides-2nd-half-tide-salem-ar-1512436/ C–Brooks 24 FG C–R. 10. With all the talk of the Clintwood size and pounding on a smaller opponent is a concern for Galax. This is the reason Galax started leaving some of the starters in the game to get them in shape for this final where they will meet a team that will put it to them in the 4th Quarter. I know a number of lifers on here thinks that's bull, but I know better. Keeping in mind that Galax only has 27 varsity players is also a concern. I think Clintwood has 50 or so. I think the Galax boys should handle their own but the 4th Quarter will definetly be the breaking point, if there is going to be one. Large and physical teams just tend to wear on you and that's where I hope the Galax conditioning comes into play. We shall see once it's finally played on the field and not on the roster matchups. If Clintwood get's behind a few TD's early it could be for an ugly night. I think the special teams for Galax could be a deciding factor in this game. They have won this part of every game they have played in. I think they have had at least 9 or 10 kickoff/punt returns for TD this season.
  11. 90% of college football is all about money now.
  12. Might have been a little tongue in cheek:D No doubt this should be a fantastic game for the fans.
  13. Lance, I like Galax as the underdog in this one. Clintwood size (Goliath) vs Galax (David) type atmoshere. Should be a great game to be at...hate I won't be able to make this one. You going to be taking some pictures @ this one?
  14. Two best teams will play in A! Look forward to a great game... should be a good one. Congratulations to both teams and may the BEST team win!
  15. Q4 3:03 left to play 65 yard run by Derrick Carpentar (his second of the game) Galax 50 Lunenburg 14
  16. Great come back Clintwood! Looks like it will be an all SW final. Still alot of time at Galax but it is 50-7, at this time. Stranger things have happened but I cannot see Lunenburg coming back.
  17. Q3 Donte People 11 yard TD run Galax 50 Lunenburg 7
  18. Q3 Jordan Vaughn 11 yard TD run Galax 43 (high snap and Galax takes it in for 2) Lunenburg 7
  19. Q3 9:10 Shalibi 34 yard TD reception Galax 35 Lunenburg 7
  20. Sounds like a good game..Come on Clintwood! How did they get the 8 points (safety?)?
  21. What's the score for Clintwood?
  22. Halftime Galax 28 Lunenburg 7 Galax D line stopping the run, at this point. Lunenburg playing well but two major mistakes that Galax capitalizes on with 14 points.
