Abingdon 81 - Tazewell 43

TAZEWELL - Michael Scorsome did just that, scoring 21 points, leading undefeated Abingdon to an 81-43 non-district win over Southwest District leader Tazewell on Tuesday night.

 

Thorn Mosley added 11 points and Cory Byrd and Lake Wagner had nine points apiece for the Falcons, which improved to 12-0. Tazewell was paced by Omar Reed with 16 points and 16 rebounds.

 

Daniel Boone 50, Sullivan East 36

 

Kevin Champagne scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds, leading Daniel Boone to a Big Seven win over the Patriots.

 

Drew Woodruff added 14 points for the Blazers (3-3, 10-7), while Perry Depew tossed in 10. East (1-5, 7-10) was paced by Dusty Craig with 13 points and 10 by Cody Shipley.

 

Graham 75, Grundy 55

 

Mike Alvis scored 19 points and Robert Henry added 16, leading the G-Men to a Southwest District win over the Golden Wave.

 

Graham (2-2, 6-7), which also received eight points from Bill Mercke, held Grundy’s high-scoring Theo Justus to just two points, 16 points below his season average. Jimmy Ashby led the Golden Wave (3-2, 8-6) with 12 points.

 

Clintwood 44, Appalachia 35

 

Jon Michael Fleming and Duran Moore scored 13 points apiece, leading the Greenwave to a Lonesome Pine District win over the Bulldogs.

 

Clintwood (5-2, 7-6) outscored Appalachia 30-23 in the second half to take the nine-point win. William Huneycutt led the Bulldogs (2-4, 4-9) with 17 points.

 

Lebanon 74, Northwood 16

 

Matt Gilmer outscored the Panthers by himself, connecting on four 3-pointers and finishing with 20 points, leading the first place Pioneers to a Hogoheegee District win.

 

Shane Peck added 12 points and Bryan Sexton tossed in 10 for Lebanon (7-0, 12-1), which led 17-2 after one quarter and 40-8 at the break. Northwood (0-7, 1-12) was led by Trey Roop with four points.

 

Rural Retreat 63, Holston 47

 

Jonathan Hawkins scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds, leading the Indians to a Hogoheegee District win over the Cavaliers.

 

Matthew Heldreth added 14 points and Luke Reasor tallied 13 for Rural Retreat (3-6, 3-13). Holston (1-7, 1-13) was paced by Grant Wright with 16 points.

 

Powell Valley 78, Pound 49

 

Ten players scored for Powell Valley as the Vikings scored a Lonesome Pine District win. Brad Robbins scored 27 points for PV. Adam Keith’s 16 led Pound.

 

Twin Valley 62, Richlands 30

 

Logan Shortridge and K.T. Vandyke scored 12 points apiece, leading the Panthers to a non-district victory over the Blue Tornado.

 

Nick Harman and Alex Vandyke added 10 points apiece for the Panthers (10-1). Richlands (2-13) was paced by Rob Stanton with eight points and seven by Ben Mulkey.

 

Honaker 69, Hurley 43

 

Matt Hayes scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds, leading the Tigers on a 28-point third quarter and a Black Diamond District win over the Rebels.

 

A.J. Bryant and Chad Burks added eight points apiece for Honaker (1-2, 4-10), while Hurley (0-2, 6-8) was paced by Eric May’s 17 points and 10 from Shane Shelton.

 

Coeburn 58, Kelly 36

 

Derek Fields scored 16 points as the Blue Knight posted a Lonesome Pine District win over J.J. Kelly.

 

Wes Hall added seven points, eight assists and four steals for Coeburn. Chris Barker led J.J. Kelly with 11 points.

 

Dobyns-Bennett 64, David Crockett 51

 

Lamon Williams scored 22 points and Ryan Blackwell added 13, leading the Indians to a Big Seven Conference win over the Pioneers.

 

GIRLS

 

Hurley 77, Honaker 71

 

Kristy Ward scored 38 points, leading Hurley to its first Black Diamond District win since the 2000-01 season.

 

Hurley (1-1, 9-4), which won just 11 games in the three previous years, also received 20 points from Cody Christian. Ashley Mullins led Honaker (0-2, 2-12) with 21 points.

 

Daniel Boone 54, Sullivan East 46

 

Haylee Collins scored 27 points, including 11 of Daniel Boone’s 13 third quarter points, leading the Blazers to a Big Seven Conference win over the Patriots.

 

Collins added six rebounds, five assists and four steals for Daniel Boone (6-0, 12-5). Kristen Ervin scored 14 of her 16 points in the first half for Sullivan East (0-6, 3-15), while Samantha Starnes added nine points.

 

Twin Valley 75, Richlands 50

 

Samantha Vandyke canned three 3-pointers and finished with 17 points, leading the Panthers to a non-district win over the Blue Tornado.

 

Brittany Maxwell and Tiffany Watson added 16 points apiece for the Panthers (10-2). Richlands (3-10) was paced by Amber Bales with 18 points and Jenny Keene with 16.

 

Thomas Walker 84, Ervinton 47

 

Tessa Garrett and Emily Burke both had double-doubles, leading the Pioneers to a Cumberland District win over the Rebels.

 

Garrett collected 23 points and 12 rebounds, while Burke added 13 points and 12 boards for Thomas Walker (4-0, 8-6). Kristy Brooking added 13 points, Whitney Bailey scored 11 and Elizabeth Martin contributed 10 points and eight boards.

 

Ervinton (0-4, 1-14) was led by Megan Boyd with 18 points and 10 from Ashley Whitaker.

 

St. Paul 60, Rye Cove 48

 

Courtney Evans scored 19 points and Laura Pritchard added 16, leading the Deacons to a Cumberland District win over the Eagles.

 

St. Paul (3-1, 9-5) connected on 18-of-22 free throws in the second half, including 9-of-11 by Pritchard in the final period. Stephanie Petelle led Rye Cove (2-2, 5-9) with 12 ponits and 12 rebounds, while Amanda Chapman added 16 points.

 

Twin Springs 33, Castlewood 30

 

After three quarters Twin Springs and Castlewood were all tied at 21, but the Titans were able to surge ahead in the fourth for a three-point Cumberland District win. Samantha Baker led the Titans with 11 and Hannah Campbell led all scorers with 16 for the Blue Devils.
