cityofRaven 2,460 Report Share Posted January 28, 2005 Why dont they still play there basketball games at the brushfork armory i think that was a great place to watch a game the only time i got to see one there
Bluefield_Rules 46 Report Share Posted January 28, 2005 They quit using the armory at first because right after 9/11 the local National Guard was using it as a staging facility. However, it’s my understanding now that the Mercer County Board of Education refuses to pay rent for Bluefield to use the building to play basketball. I've also heard that the Bluefield players like playing better at the high school gym.

Bluefield_Rules 46 Report Share Posted January 28, 2005 The smaller gyms provide a better shooting background for the shooters, but it sucks for the fans...lol
cityofRaven 2,460 Author Report Share Posted January 28, 2005 yeah true but that wont help them when it comes time for charlston or even the coal classic
bluefieldRocks 14 Report Share Posted January 28, 2005 I wish they'd have all the games at bhs, for the simple reason that its on our home turf, when we play graham and princeton at bluefield state, I would consider that equal turf. But i think that walking into bhs is kind of like a scary thing for opposing teams , i mean you see hundreds of trophys when you walk in, championship pictures on the walls that are huge. And i think that kind of gives us a mental edge

Bluefield_Rules 46 Report Share Posted January 29, 2005 [ QUOTE ] yeah true but that wont help them when it comes time for charlston or even the coal classic [/ QUOTE ] Exactly. I've noticed that since Bluefield quit playing at the Armory that when they get to Charleston each March they don't shot as well as Bluefield teams of the past. So it's a big factor not only for Bluefield, but the majority of teams...
convertedbeaver 10 Report Share Posted January 29, 2005 if i remember right last year when princeton came to bluefield the gym was packed out. i think it would be good to have it at the school with all the fans right on top of the players. bluefieldRocks 14 Report Share Posted January 29, 2005 Well i do think its right for the home team to have to play somewheres else, where they dont even play that often. maybe except a few times a year
ghstoga 10 Report Share Posted February 1, 2005 When did Bluefield ever begin playing at the Armory? When I lived there they always played at BHS (at least I think they did). I remember going to BHS to watch them play Graham.
Bluefield_Rules 46 Report Share Posted February 1, 2005 They started playing at the armory in the early 1990s, about the same time Gaither became coach.
