buzzsawBeaver 12 Report Share Posted April 19, 2007 1 of the biggest problems i see in my opinion is in the mental aspect of reactions to these types of shootings. For days the media wrongly dwells on the shooters life and the reasons he was upset, ect., they dignify the shooters intentions of attention. Other people on the edge see this and are encouraged by it in my opinion. People might actually not be so fast to consider really doing these tings if the media and people would completely ignore any personal details about the shooter. In fact if they'd simply label them a murdering coward and move on it might not seem so glamorous to these types. It's gonna get worse, and arm yourselves in case. People say it can't or won't happen here, or where you are, but yet it's happened 2 times about an hour some away on each side of us here. BigD4VT 11 Report Share Posted April 19, 2007 I agree Buzzsaw and I don't think the media cares, in fact I think they want it to happen again. The way they had their people, including lead anchors in town within hours tells me they have a plan in place to get there first and cash-in on tragedy. Beamerball 566 Report Share Posted April 19, 2007 More California schools seeing it... 36 Cal. schools on lockdown I heard there was an incident with a call that came into the Walmart in Lee County a couple of nights ago in reference to the Va Tech shootings too. buzzsawBeaver 12 Report Share Posted April 19, 2007 bigd sometimes our justice system or seemingly lack of and the media are our worst enemy. 1 of russias worst serial killers was caught and within days sitting in a "cage" in a court room and quickly found guilty and promptly escorted to the basement where he got a .45 round to the back of the head, after being spat at throughout the trial. Quite a lot more deterrant. difference being of course tis guy was really mentally ill. I honestly don't think a lot of these spree killers in america are anything more than extremley selfish and imprinted with violence from tv and movies and video games. Their killings are more an angry tantrum and an outlet for their anger than a mental illness. The media furthers this by providing a certain stage and audience for these outbursts.
