MavsRock 21 Report Share Posted September 11, 2007 Anyone know why Oak Hill had 1 of their wins taken away?
Willie 10 Report Share Posted September 11, 2007 Published: September 11, 2007 12:10 am Oak Hill forfeits win over county rival Fayetteville By Steve Keenan For The Register-Herald Fayetteville didn’t beat rival Oak Hill on the field in its 2007 football season opener, but the Pirates have the ‘W’ anyway. On Monday, Oak Hill High principal Tim Payton informed his counterpart at Fayetteville, Mike Pilato, that the Red Devils forfeited their 28-21 win over the Pirates for using an ineligible player. The victory, which goes into the record books as a 1-0 score, boosts Fayetteville to 2-1 on the year, while Oak Hill sees its mark tumble to 1-2. When given information the day after the Fayetteville game, Payton said his school “immediately†self-reported to the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission the possibility the Red Devils had used an ineligible player. The player, whom Payton wouldn’t identify due to privacy issues, originally played in a neighboring county. “We thought we had enough information to declare the student eligible,†said Payton. “After the (Fayetteville) game, other information came to light.†The WVSSAC Board of Appeals heard the matter last Thursday, the same day it ruled that Class AAA power Martinsburg would have to forfeit a pair of wins for using an ineligible player. The letter advising the Devils of the ineligibility said the ruling was due to violation of WVSSAC Rule 127-2-7.2.11 concerning transfer of residency. Specifically, the rule states: “After establishing initial residency with one parent, all subsequent transfers will require a period of ineligibility for 365 days from the date of enrollment unless a change of residency is decreed by the court.†The player, who didn’t appear in Oak Hill’s subsequent two games, is still enrolled at OHHS. An appeal of the decision has been filed and is set to be heard by the WVSSAC Board of Review Oct. 11. Sporting an extra notch in the win column, the Pirates travel to Meadow Bridge Friday. Oak Hill visits Liberty the same night.

Sources 10 Report Share Posted September 12, 2007 Rankings mean nothing. The slate is wiped clean come November and that's when the real rankings are decided.

sanctagon 11 Report Share Posted September 12, 2007 these are two completely different polls. the charleston poll means nothing. the wvssac poll determines playoff rankings. the poll that blfd was ranked #1 is the charleston sports writers poll. the wvssac poll is the one where blfd is #4. sanctagon 11 Report Share Posted September 12, 2007 [ QUOTE ] how does bluefield have 9.33? [/ QUOTE ] graham 9pts + princeton 12pts + william campbell 7pts = 28 / 3 = 9.
bluefieldRocks 14 Author Report Share Posted September 12, 2007 And how do they determine who is #1? Simply by adding up the teams opponents points reguardless if there 0-3 right now? Or are there opponents opponents records put into the mix also?

sanctagon 11 Report Share Posted September 12, 2007 WC's 9-12 enrollment is 387. In WV, enrollment is based on grades 9-11. WC's 9-11 enrollment is 304 which is "A" in WV.

Or are there opponents opponents records put into the mix also? [/ QUOTE ] In WV, every team regardless of class, gets 12 pts for a win over an "AAA" opponent, 9 for "AA", 6 for "A". Bonus points are awarded for defeated opponents wins over teams that are SAME DIVISION OR HIGHER. Points are a running total over the season and weekly ratings are determined by the number of games played. So for example if Blfd beats James Monroe, and James Monroe wins all their other games (9-1), then Blfd gets 8 bonus points because narrows is "A" Since Blfd is idle this week, they can get 3 bonus pts from Graham, Princeton, and WC if they win, but still divide by 3. So the rating only goes up this week (28pts + 3 bonus = 31pts total / 3 games = 10.33 rating after this Friday. No points or bonus points are awarded from teams you lose to, only defeated opponents. So teams that are 0-3 have 0pts and a 0 rating.
