GSC Basketball Coach Steps Down

MetroNews Sports

The leader of the Glenville State College Lady Pioneers is stepping down. GSC Head Women’s Basketball Coach Tracy Wyatt Raban has submitted her resignation.

Wyatt Raban says the decision was a difficult one to make: “I was honored to be offered the opportunity to return to my alma mater to accept the head coaching position. However, for personal reasons, I need to step down from this position.â€Â

GSC President Peter Barr expressed his regret over Wyatt Raban’s decision. Barr said, “I am disappointed she will not be with us during the upcoming women’s basketball season. However, I understand and support her decision. We wish her nothing but the best in the future."

Barr added, “As an athlete, she was a great point guard, an outstanding role model, and a tremendous competitor. I'm confident she will use those same qualities in her future career endeavors."

Wyatt Raban said, “This was a great opportunity for me to further my coaching career with my college family. I hope everyone at Glenville State College and in the local community understands my decision. I wish the team the best of luck during the upcoming season.â€Â

Wyatt Raban was a 2001-2004 GSC women’s basketball star athlete who graduated from Glenville State College in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education: PreK-12. She then began teaching at Tazewell Middle School in Tazewell, Va., and also coached the girls’ basketball team at Graham High School in Bluefield, Va., where she was named Coach of the Year for the Southwest District last year. She is married to Dana Raban, who also attended Glenville State College and played on the GSC football team.
