Giles (3-3, 0-1)

 

at Glenvar (4-2, 0-1)

 

The Spartans saw its four-year streak of Three Rivers District wins snapped last week when Radford rallied for 28 second half points to earn the 35-28 win. The Highlanders also dropped its opening Three Rivers game, losing 35-6 to unbeaten Floyd County. Giles haven’t lost to Glenvar this decade, and have outscored the Highlanders 79-0 over the last two seasons. Giles is currently fourth in the Region C, Division 2 playoff hunt, while Glenvar is sixth. Giles is led by Cody Journell and Travis Robertson, who combined for 319 yards and three touchdowns against the Bobcats last week on the ground.

 

Greenbrier East (1-6)

 

at James Monroe (4-2)

 

Even though the Mavericks have scored less than 20 points four weeks in a row, they’ve won three of them behind a stingy defense. The Mavericks, currently 13th in the Class AA computer ratings, have allowed just 27 points in those four games. Taylor Robertson, one of the state’s most talented players, has struggled with the rest of the offense this season, although he has run for 77 and 70 yards in the Mavericks’ last two games. The Class AAA Spartans have lost six straight since a season-opening 16-8 win over Lincoln County. Greenbrier East last beat the Mavericks in 2001, but have since lost four straight, including by 9 points and 1 point in the last two years.

 

Valley-Fayette (2-4)

 

at Summers County (0-6)

 

The Bobcats have four games left, all at home. It starts with the Greyhounds, who have lost two straight to the Bobcats, and are coming off a 44-0 loss to Mount Hope, which followed a double-overtime win over Meadow Bridge. Summers County, losers of eight straight games, have scored just 20 points in its last four contests. After a 6-0 loss to Shady Spring, the ‘Cats have surrendered 29.3 points per contests over the last three weeks. The Bobcats beat the Greyhounds 20-14 last season, and 34-8 in ‘06.

 

Big Creek (5-1)

 

at Twin Valley (0-7)

 

The Owls regrouped from its loss to Iaeger by pounding Iaeger 44-14. Big Creek is currently 10th in the latest Class A computer ratings, have three games left, and will be heavy favorites in all of them since those clubs have a combined record of 2-17. Twin Valley have lost 17 straight games, with its last win being a 32-6 decision at Hurley in 2006. The Panthers have scored just 52 points in seven games, reaching double figures twice. In each of the last three meetings in this series, the game has resulted in a shutout. Twin Valley won 8-0 in 13-0 in ‘04, while the Owls took an 8-0 victory in ‘03 and 47-0 last season.

 

Carroll County (3-4, 1-2)

 

at Grundy (1-6, 0-3)

 

While Carroll County has won three of its last four games, the Golden Wave have lost four straight after a 42-point blowout of East Ridge, Ky. Grundy has lost 16 straight Southwest District contests, with the ‘Wave’s last league win being a victory over Tazewell in ‘04. The Cavaliers are 4-3 in their last seven meetings with Grundy, including three wins in a row. Grundy has made it close the last two years, dropping 21-14 and 14-12 decisions. The Golden Wave have allowed 46 points per game over their last five games, including 110 in the past two weeks. During that same time span, the Cavaliers have lost games by two and three points.
