Harris named Dudley finalist

Award presented Thursday night in Richmond

December 9, 2008

RICHMOND - Virginia Tech senior cornerback Victor Harris has been named one of three finalists for the Dudley Award, which will be presented Thursday to the state player of the year.

Virginia linebacker Clint Sintim and James Madison quarterback Rodney Landers are the other two finalists.

The finalists for the small-college Dudley are Emory & Henry running back Caleb Jennings, Christopher Newport running back Tunde Ogun and UVa-Wise quarterback Randy Hippeard.

Vince Hall was the last football player from Tech to receive the honor, winning in 2006. Jim Pyne (1993), Cornell Brown (1995), Corey Moore (1999), Lee Suggs (2000 & 2002), Kevin Jones (2003), Bryan Randall (2004) and Darryl Tapp (2005) also took home the award.

The Dudley Award is named after former University of Virginia standout "Bullet" Bill Dudley and has been presented annually since 1990 to the player of the year at a state school. Each football-playing school in the Commonwealth is allowed to nominate one player. In 2004, a separate award was created for players at Division II and Division III schools. The Richmond Times-Dispatch sponsors the awards.
