vthokies4life 10 Report Share Posted November 20, 2009 Soccer star, Thierry Henry (pronounced Tee-airy On-ree) has been in the midst of quite a controversy in regards to his handball that put France into the World Cup over Ireland. Here's a clip of it. And when I say controversy, I've really not ever seen a media storm like this when you take into account that it's the ref's decision, and typically, athletes will do what they can to win the game their playing. Here are some more articles. Pretty harsh views on this situation. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/international/republicofireland/6609355/Thierry-Henry-must-be-banned-from-playing-in-the-2010-World-Cup.html http://kevin-blackistone.fanhouse.com/2009/11/19/beautiful-game-ruined-by-ugliness/ http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/international/republicofireland/6598616/France-1-Republic-of-Ireland-1-agg-2-1-match-report.html http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/article6922619.ece No reason to read every word of the articles. You will get the point by just catching the headlines or skimming through.
GMan 3,569 Report Share Posted November 20, 2009 Yeh, I've been following this too. I'm not sure why everyone is pissed at him...it was the officials who missed the call. Even he has stated it was a handball and that a replay is the "fairest solution" but FIFA said no. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=701150&sec=worldcup2010&cc=5901 http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=701024&sec=worldcup2010&cc=5901 I'm confused as to everyone's anger towards him...they should be pissed at the officials and the governing body. But that's soccer...I guess they need the attention and publicity...
bluefieldRocks 14 Report Share Posted November 20, 2009 He said a few days after that it was indeed a handball. It's not his fault the refs made the wrong call... Henry is my favorite player in soccer. I've been watching him since he played for Arsenal
Valley_10 10 Report Share Posted November 20, 2009 I agree...the refs made the no call and thats that...No player pofessional or not is going to tell the ref they made a mistake and they made the wrong call.
GetMoney55 11 Report Share Posted November 21, 2009 If anything, the moronic goalie shouldn't have stopped playing when he thought a call should have been made. If anything, it is his, as well as the other players who starting crying, fault for losing the game. In typical soccer style, the cry babies started boo hooing at the refs and it came back to bite them. Big boys don't cry.
