MSHS Principal Danny Newman requested that approval last month. In a December letter to school superintendent Dr. Michael Robinson, Newman wrote, “This team would consist of both males and females. There would be no additional cost to the school board. The high school would pay for the officials, buses and uniforms. We feel that we currently have enough uniforms to field a team. Dr. Jim Gates, our boys’ head soccer coach, has agreed to coach the co-ed junior varsity team if approved for no additional money. I feel that this would make a good soccer program even better.†MSHS is the only county school with a soccer team. In moving to approve the request, Saltville District representative Jerry Catron said Northwood and Chilhowie high schools should be informed of the decision to see if they are interested in developing soccer programs. dkegley@wythenews.com Life has many choices---eternity two
