#1 Bluefield dominate 2nd half to defeat #2 Wyoming East

Bluefield led 37-34 going into half.

Final Score:

Bluefield: 73

Wyoming East: 53

Eades finished with 26. Collier had 21.

Good win, but they still didn't play defense and got bullied down low. They aren't a real big team, but they can still stay in front of a man and get position for a rebound. They didn't do a real good job at either. If they clean up those areas then they win this game by 30+.

Definitely the AA favorite at this point.

Should be? That's as good a basketball team as has been in SWVA in a LONG time...

You might be right. Wyoming East doesn't put out a bad basketball team. Aside from Northfork's old records, I don't think there is a better basketball tradition in the state than Wyoming East/Mullens. The most fundamental basketball you'll come across in WV year in and year out.

Like I said, there isn't a whole lot of size on the court for the Beavers. I'd say that 6'3", MAYBE 6'4" is their maximum height. But they routinely have 3-4 kids on the court that can and will make an open jump shot. Most good teams only have 2-3 at most. That extra player does make a huge difference, especially at the high school level.

They are a very quick team, they just have way too many mental lapses on defense. They probably gave up at least 10 points today on a press break where the back guy in the press didn't shift into position and left a wide open lay up for the opponent. They gave up a few easy unchallenged drives at a few points too. Hard to be critical over a 20 point win, but it could've been much worse. If they clean that up and work on getting better position, this team can be scary good.

Wyoming East is always tough in basketball, Basketball in Wyoming County has always been the number 1 sport. Even before the consolidations, all the high schools had a deep basketball tradition. Bluefield is always tough, great athletes every year. This should be a great year for basketball as usual in the southern part of the state in Double AA.
