BigBlue02 11 Report Share Posted June 19, 2012 I don't post all that often,l but its evident that the changing of the guard so to speak affects even the lower division in collegiate sports. http://bdtonline.com/local/x500782103/WVIAC-breaks-up
GMan 3,569 Report Share Posted June 19, 2012 That Conference was very similar to the Big East...some football schools and some basketball schools trying to co-exist. The football schools decided to move on. I'm not that surprised that this happened...kinda shocked that it took this long.
RichlandsAlum 678 Report Share Posted June 19, 2012 Personally, I'm just waiting for a quote like this.... "By taking this action now, the athletic department at [insert one of the 9 schools] expects to see average attendance at football games improve from four dozen to almost 55 paying customers." "By taking this action now, the athletic department at [insert one of the 9 schools] expects to see average attendance at football games improve from four dozen to almost 55 paying customers." Not to be joking about this, the WVIAC had the lowest average attendance of all Division II conferences last season... http://i.turner.ncaa.com/dr/ncaa/ncaa/release/sites/default/files/files/2011+Football+Attendance.pdf 2011 NCAA DIVISION II FOOTBALL CONFERENCE ATTENDANCE Rank / Conference / Attendance Average 1. (And thanks for the info, Gman.) Purely speculation, but I'd imagine that the recent ascendancy of Virginia Tech, WVU, and Marshall have really hurt these schools in terms of attendance. From a hoops perspective, I'm particularly bummed. I attended several WVIAC tournaments growing up, and they were the source of some really good memories. Deleted Account 5,203 Report Share Posted June 19, 2012 Average attendance by school... Concord 1,632 Charleston 1,321 Fairmont St. 2,930 Glenville St. 900 Seton Hill 910 Shepherd 3,522 West Liberty 967 WV State 550 WV Wesleyan 1,297 550? How in the world can a school even keep the program afloat with that kind of average attendance? And it should be noted, Concord is 3rd, which is awesone compared to where they were 5 seasons ago.
