Stanley helps West to VHSCA All-Star victory

Staff reports

Bluefield Daily Telegraph

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Kaylan Stanley, a recent graduate of Graham High School, played a large role in the West’s 2-1 girls soccer win over the East in the Virginia High School League Coaches Association All-Star game on Wednesday afternoon at Christopher Newport University.

Stanley, who led Graham to the Group A state championship game last month, played all over the pitch for the West, including forward, midfield, defensive back and goalie to help with the winning effort.

According to local resident Dewayne Belcher, who was in Hampton for a VHSCA coaches clinic, the West team scored two goals in the final 20 minutes, and Stanley made several saves in goal to secure the victory, including a ‘brilliant’ foot save to prevent the tying score.

Stanley will play next for Lees--McRae College.

Rachel Ivey of Freedom and J.W. Robinson’s Jeannine Molleda scored for the West.

Richlands’ Reece Strong participated in the All-Star baseball game won by the East 13-6.

Giles’ Zach Keaton helped the West beat the East 3-2 in the boys soccer hame.

The All-Star games will continue through Friday. Narrows' Savanna Burton will participate in the volleyball game today, while Dustin Waynick of Hurley and Richlands' Hunter Brown will take part in Friday's football game.
