All-State Shaft List

Jose Steele - Should have gotten first team in some capacity, undoubtedly the BEST fullback in the state. You can't tell me the guy from Tyler Consolidated is better.

Kelly Mariotti - Should have gotten defensive captain on first team.

Fletcher Kinder - Deserving of at least honorable mention after his performance against Bluefield in Wheeling. 63 yard fumble return that set up the tying TD for Poca and also scored on a short run for the Dots in the first half.

Marcus Grasty - Yes he got UTL first team, but why? Who in the name of all things holy is Chris Kinney from Frankfort? I'm sure he is so deserving of first team, that's why most of us hadn't heard his name until today. Grasty was the best QB in AA, end of discussion.

I believe Steele should have made first team, but I'm not going to belittle another player on the list in making a case for him. All one has to do is watch tapes of Bluefield games and you'll come to the same conclusions about Steele. I also feel that Marcus Gratsy should have made first team QB and at least captain b/c he was/is the best player in AA...

I reckon if they were just looking at stats then Matt Wright would stand out. From Daily Mail:

"Tyler Consolidated senior Matt Wright, who carried 219 times for 1,851 yards (8.5 per carry) and scored 24 touchdowns and 154 points."

Nice numbers, but I don't pretend to know anything about that school or who they played. I do know that Steele is fine player and it hurt his stats that Bluefield had several big wins where he didn't play nearly the entire game. Just not enough room for all who are deserving sometimes.
