Sad news for a local favorite...if anyone hears of him signing with someone else, let me know...I like Mike, good guy...hope he picks up another team if he wants to continue playing football.

Compton cut by Jags

Sunday marked the first time since 1992 that Mike Compton has missed an NFL season opener.

The former Richlands High School star was cut by the Jacksonville Jaguars following training camp. Compton, an 11-year veteran, was sidelined with an injured thumb for much of training camp after signing with Jacksonville in the offseason as a free agent.

The 33-year-old offensive lineman had previously played with the Detroit Lions and New England Patriots, winning two Super Bowl titles with New England.

He began his career with Detroit in 1993 after a standout career at West Virginia University.

Compton, who has played every position on the offensive line during his professional career, could still sign with another team.
