BEARCAT 10 Report Share Posted October 30, 2004 Final: VHS-33 Marion-12 Marion scored first. VHS then scored 33 unanswered, 19-6 at the half. Marion scored with seconds left against the 2nd team. Both teams lost around 80 yard touchdowns on penalties. Mitchell and Lockett had good games running the ball. Marion played a hard and very clean game. Hawthorne(42) was by far Marion's best player. Like it or not, we are in the playoffs. We now have the opportunity to work on that winless record against the swd. Thanks to Martinsville's loss to Bassett tonight, it is going to be Grundy, Tazewell, Graham, and Virginia High probably in that order. I don't think the outcome of next weeks v-high-grundy game will change seeding. I'm pretty sure Grundy has locked #1 already, but can anyone help with calculating if a vhs win next week would leap frog us past Graham for the #3 seed? We have our work cut out for us. Gotta love this time of year.
Lance 228 Report Share Posted October 30, 2004 I am fairly sure you guys are locked in at #4...I dont think you can out point graham/martinsville...and it looks like Graham is going to need help to point out Martinsville. You should get back to back games in the mudhole....enjoy it.
BEARCAT 10 Author Report Share Posted October 30, 2004 Thanks for the info. We know that Grundy has beaten all the teams we have lost to other than richlands and Tenn. High, so we are gonna have to eliminate the pesky turnovers and penalties if we want to win this one. If nothing is gonna be on the line, it will be interesting to see how the coaches play their cards this friday. I know we will be playin' with all we got, and i am sure Grundy will too. Fact is, there just aren't a lot of opportunities to get out on the field and knock heads, so for teams that take pride in their performance every time they step on the field...there is no such thing as a meaningless game. I expect a close ballgame friday night.
Lance 228 Report Share Posted October 30, 2004 Grundy needs to win this game and stay on a roll going in to the playoffs...they have a chance to go 9-1 which is very special, playing in the SWD and the level of play between the district rivals, it's almost impossible to go 9-1...a lot of 8-2 shots, but 9-1 is rare. Grundy is playing well as a team right now, they are still making mistakes, but it's getting better. Should be a good hard hitting game.
