Signs show poor sprotsmanship!!

Fans were given free signs to hold and wave Saturday night at Clinchco. On one side the sign said GOOD CALL and the other side said BAD CALL. In the wake of the Ron Artest fracas and other poor sportsmanship displays, why would the tournament sponsors WDIC, Farmers/Merchants Bank, and Edwards Food? be foolish enough to give fans something like this. It sent a wrong message to the fans and gave each school that participated a black eye as far as VHSL Sportsmanship was concerned. Whether or not it was funny has nothing to do with the message it sent. Administration should be held accountable as well as the sponsors and apologies to the fans, students, players, and officials should be forthcoming.

Don't compare this to the ron artist brawl, let the students and fans have fun, smile.gif no one was offended but you,As for ronnie boy ,he should be banned from the sport for ever. Our fans are not stupid, they just like having good clean fun,and the ref's they get a kick out of those signs. They know its all in fun. So have a good day and give the world a smile sports fan

he has a point in what he is sayingif youlet this stuff go why not let fans stand up and ell at a ref and go on the floor to tell him hes stupid or dumb I mean thats what the sign is saying right just a little fun from the crowd can cost your team a -T- but hold up a sign and its fine now how long do you think this will last as soon as a ref calls a call and they hold up these signs and he thinks for a momment that his call made the difference in the game and all those signs are waving and crowd starts to get mad at him hes not going to like that everyone is wanting to kick his butt is. have you ever ref. a game i have and it is fun but at the same time harder than you think and there is alot of presure on the ref. to make all the right calls and when you have got a fan in the stand holding a sign that says bad call, well why not just scream you suck ref. it shows the same inhuman ways that the guy that threw the beer at arrtest that started that whole mess so should the fans be banned to? wink.gif

Yeah you can't compare an idiot like Ron Artest to high school students. These are suppose to be the best four years of our lives and its people like you that take that away from us. How would a sign that said BAD CALL/GOOD CALL cause a brawl like Artest did? You can't compare everyone with Artest. Otherwise everyone in the world would be in a constant brawl.

They fought for it Biscuit, I wasnt letting go and it was an overtime game but a W is a W whenever. Both games were good a last sec foul shot at Richlands which they won. Also the overtime game in Tazewell. Look forward to this years rivalry battle.

Smell ya lata... wink.gif

I am not comparing Ron Artest to high school students, I am saying that a situation such as the Pacers and Pistons could easily happen at a high school event. We should not encourage poor sportsmanship--This is what happened. This could lead to a potential dangerous situation. The VHSL Sportsmanship Rule does not support this type of fan behavior and/or administration being responsible for such actions premeditated by a free sign. We all need to lead by example and show the players and coaches that there is a proper way to act during a game.

Well the signs didn't say anything about the ref's being stupid, they just said goodcall-badcall if you were there you could have read the signs and then you would know what they are talking about. This just happen to be the students, having fun and the ref's got a kick out of it. All in fun,no harm.

RESPECT-- TO show consideration to another. That is what I mean about the signs and I have seen the signs they had them at the HURLEY game MONDAY. and the refs. didnt get a kick out of them. LET me ask you what you would do if someone held a sign up at yur work place that said you where doing your job wrong or bad would you get aa kick out of it of corse not you would be upset. And i know its all about fun right but you guys that thinks its funny to hold up a sign that says bad call or good call better think about what happens to a player when they argue the refs. call.Thats right to much attiude gets you a -T- but why should it be if you can hold up your opinion in the stands and nothing is said why should a ref get mad a kid for doing it vocaly on the floor. PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH, DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD HAVE THEM DO UNTO YOU, ITS ALL ABOUT (RESPECT) smirk.gifgrin.gif

That whole thing is pretty funny

But I don't think the signs should be compared to anything like the Ron Artest. Every fan, player, coach, spectator will get mad at the ref a couple of times and there is nothing you can do to change the call but why do we argue??? To prove a point, but it never gets proven

As long as its the students having fun,the refs that i know get a kick out of it.But if the grown ups start caring signs like that, i agree with you it shows bad sportsmanship. In this case we are talking about students having fun.And most of the time the refs and students know each other anyway.I just don't like it when someone compares our children to thugs like Ron Artist. Most people in our towns understands that these school sports are for the kids to enjoy. But we always have people who are not pleased with the way students exspress themselfs. Have a good day,and thanks for your comments.

I believe that if i was a ref, I would rather have to read a sign than listen to a fan tell me that I suc. I can choose not to read the sign but I usually can't choose to not listen to the heckling. I think the signs are entertaining and harmless. Again, this isn't the same insane action that artest done.

AS I WAS READ THE POST ABOUT THE TAZEWEL&RICHLANDS GAME THIS WAS A PROBLEM FROM THE START. I WILL AGREE A FEW MAY HAVE BEEN DRINKING AND THATS NOT GOOD BUT I ALSO AGREE THE ONE THAT GOT IN A FIGHT DID NOT START IT. IT WAS SAW BY A ADULT THAT JUST DID NOT GET INVOLVED BECAUSE HE IS SICK BUT THAT SHOULD BE LAID TO REST.

THE PROBLEM STARTED WHEN YOU GET TO A GYM THAT HOLDS I GUESS 1500 OR MORE NOT SURE. THEN YOU ONLY PULL OUT 1 SECTION OF BOTTOM BLEACHERS AND 1 ON THE TOP LEVEL. THIS IS ASKING FOR TROUBLE IN A BIG GAME LIKE THIS ONE FROM THE START. I PERSONALY AM NOT GOING TO SET UP ON THE TOP WHILE MY TEAM IS PLAYING I AM GOING TO CROWD MY WAY INTO THE BOTTOM. THEN YOU PUT LAW ON EACH END AND ONE HAS HIS RULE AND THE OTHER END HAS HIS. I AM NOT SAYING THEY DID ANYTHING WRONG THEY JUST NEED TO BE ON THE SAME PAGE. THEN YOU SEE A FAN LINE FORMED FOR THE TEAM TO GO THROUGH AND SOME STAFF MAKING THE KIDS MOVE WHEN NO HARM WAS BEING CAUSED. AND I WATCHED THE WHOLE THING AND THE STAFF MEMBER WAS OUT OF LINE. BUT THAT HAPPENS TO, HE WAS JUST TRYING TO PREVENT PROBLEMS BUT IT CREATED MORE. BUT TAZEWELL OPEN THE WHOLE GYM THIS WILL SAVE ALOT OF PROBLEM CLOSE CROWDS IN HEATED GAMES CAUSES BAD THINGS.

Well Richlands Fans sure no how to show there ignorance, one by coming to the game drunk and sitting behind the hurley players talking [censored] that they cant back up and another with trying to start fights with hurleys fans learn some respect is all i got to say. They got a fan club of losers that arent good enough to play basketball.

That is a bunch of bull. Our guys were not drunk. Just having fun. You all do not know what fan support is. A fan is not one that sits on the behind and cheers only when a basket is scored or boos when a ref makes a bad call. That is a poor fan. A fan is a Rife Raider that cheers for their team and yells and hollars until they can't anymore. That is a real fan and it seems that nobody other than tazwell fans really have any good fans. Richlands was doing nothing wrong. Was staying on their side of the court until some lady had to come over to our side and jump on some of our guys and get up into some of our older fans faces then call the cops. I do believe if some of our guys were drunk they would be going home in cop cars. Then our players and younger fans had to be escorted out of the gym because Hurley rejects were standing outside screaming at our players and fans.

Then we were cheering because we one outside at our cars and they made the cops come outside and watch us. Still not doing anything wrong. That's ridiculous. lets have fun.

I will agree with one thing you should have fun but not at the risk of making someone else mad enough to want to kick your butt. AND I say this to all the HURLEY fans step up to the plate and do what this guys talking about make some racket ,scream, yell be as load as you can if it picks up your team then do it. I went TO all but one hurley football game and the fan support was so bad that I would get mad sometimes because you would only have a few parent fans cheering for them. Just look at hurleys homecomeing game a packed house and all most the whole game it was as quiet as a mouse its all about spirt and there is very little smirk.gifin the hurley students anymore .So I issue a chalenge bring a friend,a brother, mom, dad anybody you can drag out to the next game and make some noise and watch hurleys basketball clubs ejoy there high school lives alot better and to give them the peace of mind in knowing there fans are behind them 100% of the time not just on a band wagon. LOVE THOSE REBELS!!! GO HURLEY wink.gif

I DO NOT THINK ANYONE WAS DRUNK AT THE GAME WITH AS MANY LAW THAT WAS HTERE IT WOULD HAVE BE TENDED TO. THEY STOOD AT THE THE END OF THE GYM THE SECOND HALF AND I NEVER EVEN SAW THEM TALK OR SAY ANYTHING TO A RIFE'S RAIDER I THINK IF THERE HAD BEEN A REAL PROBLEM THEY WOULD HAVE TOOK CARE OF IT. I GIVE THE LAW THAT CAME DOWN CREDIT THEY DONE A PROFESIONAL JOB THEY DID NOT COME AND MAKE A SCENE THEY JUST STOOD THERE. AND DID NOT MAKE SOMETHING OUT OF NOTHING.

AS FAR AS PEOPLE GETTING MAD FOR SOME PEOPLE THEY ARE GOING TO GET MAD NO MATTER WHAT. THE HEAT OF THE GAME AND PREASURE DOES IT SOMETIMES.
