Final score in #ArbysClassic: Greater Atlanta Christian 68, Memphis Hamilton Wildcats 59. #HCBB #TSSAA

Great State

Great game GAC... hope you take it all!!!

Have not seen GAC play this year...however, did see them  last year in a playoff game in Long Forum.  Wilkins,  even then,  was a special player in his junior year...

I remember thinking this kid "floats through the air"...just a natural.  GAC won the Georgia AA state basketball championship last year.

The Greater ATL Christian football team this year was undefeated going into their last regular season game at home against Lovett...there was a big crowd .  We sat up above the student section and it was  C O L D...brrrr!!!  GAC lost to Lovett that night 17-14...several turnovers.  As we were coming down out of the stands...Wilkins was standing at the bottom of the steps with the other students in support of his fellow student athletes that played football.  (Lovett went on to win the Georgia AA football state title in the GA Dome)

Go Spartans...hopefully, you come back to ATL with the Arby's Classic title.

(Of course, I know Peachtree Ridge (another Gwinnett Co. team) and Milton (Fulton Co.)  would like to bring it back too...)

Some info about the two schools in the Arby's Classic Finals: Greater ATL Christian and Milton are located 21 miles apart. GAC plays in the GHSA as a AA school... Milton plays in the GHSA as a AAAAAA school.

(Peachtree Ridge and GAC are located 10 miles apart. Peachtree is classified as a AAAAAA school in GHSA.)

Greater ATL Christian has no losses ...Milton has 3 losses this year. Milton lost in the City of Palms FL tournament to Montverde Academy (FL) #2 in the nation by USA Today rankings (Massey). (Montverde went on to win the tournament by beating Paul VI (VA) ranked #11 in the nation for the championship.)

Milton, also, had a another loss in the above tournament to Yates(Houston,TX) score was 90-88. (Yates, also has losses to Mater Dei High (CA) #3 ranking and Oak Hill Academy (VA) #8 ranking.)

Milton's other loss was to North Spring HS in ATL 45-44, first game of the year...to be honest, I had not heard of North Spring...now, I have. Looking at the box score... NS jumped out to big lead in the first qtr. with Milton outscoring them in the next three qtrs....slow starts...ehhh!!!

(Milton has Wheeler (Marietta, GA) ranked #14 on their upcoming regular season schedule.)

Milton, also, has a player on their team, Zach Hodskins, a great story about this inspiring young man.

With all of the above being said about Milton...I'm pulling hard for Greater ATL Christian to win the Arby's Classic. Let's go Spartans...less turnovers, better foul shooting, and work the ball into Wilkins in the paint...GO Spartans!!!

Greater ATL Christian BOYS team now ranked # 25 in the nation by USA Today Poll.   (GAC is the only GA team ranked nationally)

The team has won 74 consecutive region games during Coach Eddie Martin's 6 years at GAC.

Greater Atlanta Christian boys (winners of the most recent Arby's classic title) won their second consecutive Georgia 2A state basketball championship last night going undefeated on the season 32-0. First boys' BB team to go undefeated in Gwinnett Co. This was GAC's fourth state title in five years in AA.

I attended the game in Macon yesterday...I can say along with many others, Isaiah Wilkins (UVA commit) was the key to the title. He had 29 pts. 12 rebounds and 4 blocked shots.

Thanks for the info BB.

I didn't know if Greater ATL Christian would enter this year...not sure what kind of team they will have. Will find out...they will be playing in the N. Gwinnett Jared Cook Classic. (Cook, a N. Gwinnett grad, NFL player, gives back to the community by sponsoring this tournament each year.) This event is being live streamed and I've got it marked to watch the GAC game.

The Cook Classic started yesterday (11-22) ... N. Gwinnett beat Siegel HS (Murfreesboro) in their match up. One of NG's current players has appeared in the Arby's Classic with a different team. Jaye Stackhouse previously attended and played for Greater ATL Christian. His Dad, (yes, it is ) worked with an AAU team located around the N.Gwinnett area and Jaye transferred. However, Jaye's future in college could possibly be in football not BB.

N. Gwinnett took a blow when guard T.J. Howard decided to transfer to IMG Academy in FL for his senior year.

I will have a new team to cheer for this year in the Arby's Classic...North Gwinnett.

GO Dawgs...

Hard to believe we have two great men from the same high school starting for the 7th-ranked team in college basketball. Wonderful young men, the both of them.

Just to add some interest...Malcolm Brogdon was not the first Brogdon from GAC to be a successful NCAA basketball player.

Cindy Brogdon, a GAC alum,  no relation to Malcolm, was a highly regarded player at the University of Tennessee.

ATLANTA -- Former Lady Vol and U.S. Olympic basketball standout Cindy Brogdon will join an elite group of athletes on Feb. 7, when she is inducted into the Atlanta Sports Hall of Fame with the class of 2014.

Following an article on Cindy...
