  1. I do believe the combination will be a very, very good team and will be able to compete with the Gate City's and the like in time. From what I understand, both teams lose most of their best players so next year may be tough.

If they had combined last season, they would have been a real threat in 2A.

Haysi might have beaten Lee, but I believe Union, GC, and Marion all beat them. They might could have beat Marion at Haysi, but not at Marion.

Lee was soo underrated, they were  so close to beating Union and GC both.

  2. But they will have to play a lot better talent throughout the regular season, which increases chances for injuries and also can dishearten a team if they lose a couple games to good teams early.

I wont try and speak for Guru, but I think the point we are making is that Haysi is not used to having to play 7 teams in a season that are truly capable of beating you, its usually just 2-3 games a year before the playoffs.

Haysi was VERY good last year, but they lose a lot.

Even last year, if Haysi had to play Gate City, Union, Lee, and Marion, do you believe they would have won the same amount of regular season games? I do not believe so. Even if you are a better team, having to play great teams back to back to back makes it so hard to win all your games.

  3. I assumed the "We're not worthy" was directed at me, and you also insinuated that I made sexist posts, which is completely untrue.

Not to mention you have liked every single post in which a poster has talked shit about me. Im not mad, I think its hilarious.

Okay, I dont wanna bitch back and forth with you. Truce?

  4. If Union wins three of those games, they are in great shape for the top seed in the C40 tournament

I predict we go 2-2, but could easily go 3-1 or 1-3. I think we can finally beat Lebanon (third time is a charm), but I know nothing about Letcher and going to Gate City and winning is going to be a very difficult task. It comes down to Virginia High coming to Union, we beat them once but didnt count in conference because it was a tournament. VHS has the most talent of any C40 team, but they seem to lack discipline and a great coach.

If Union goes 0-3 against the conference team, they will have no momentum going forward into the tournament and be in bad shape. At the very least, hopefully we can beat Lebanon and start the tourney with some sort of momentum.

  5. What games are left for your respective basketball teams?

    Union's remaining schedule:

Union at Gate City, Feb. 3rd* (SUPER)

Letcher County at Union, Feb. 6th

Virginia High at Union, Feb. 10th*

Lebanon at Union, Feb. 12th* (SUPER)

    * denotes conference game.

The C40 tournament is February 16th thru the 21st.

  6. You've not been here long enough to get it. Maybe one day you will. Maybe you'll get the hammer before then. Who knows. But now that GMans back......

Once again, you took the first shot, and get all pissy when I fire back.

Why would I be banned? Ive not made obscene posts or took personal shots at anyone, if yall ban me just because Im not in your little clique thats pretty lame.

  7. Ridgeview is about to experience what Clintwood did for the late part of the 90's and early 00's. They are going to play second fiddle to GC and now Union.  It'd be great to see them reach that level soon but I think a big adjustment period is coming especially for the Haysi crew. They pretty much never played anybody.

CW had some success in the late 90s with Justin Hamilton, but I agree with your point. Going from playing Castlewood and all those other BDD/Cumberland teams to playing big time teams like GC, Union, etc.. every year will be a shock to them for the first few years.

Haysi was very good last year, but they could not have competed in D2 IMO. GC, Union, Lee, Richlands, all made the playoffs and all had good showings. Even Central played a decent playoff game. Hell, Union was SEVEN turnovers away from defeating the eventual state champion at their place, and GC had a great shot to beat Richlands if the field was not in such bad shape to kill GC's slash running game.

  8. 8/28  v  Jenkins------------------WIN (dont know much about Jenkins)

    9/4  @  Central-------------------WIN

9/11 @ Paintsville----------------I know nothing about them, no guess here

    9/16  @  Union (Unions Homecoming)------------------------Loss

    9/25  v  Lee (Ridgeviews Homecoming)-----------------------Win

    10/2  v  Gate City-----------------------------------------------------Loss

    10/9   open

    10/16  v  Battle---------------------------------------------------------WIN

10/23  v  Marion---------------------------------------------------------Depending on what Marion returns, but I will say Loss

    10/30  v Grundy---------------------------------------------------------WIN

11/6  @  Honaker--------------------------------------------------------Again, I dont know who Honaker returns, but Ill pick a W for RV.

So I have them going at worst 6-4

  9. The 1A to 2A jump wont be too much of a change for either team. Clintwood (up until this past cycle) played one of the toughest schedules in SWVA and Haysi has played some very good teams with their past 2 playoff runs. The issue will be having to bring it week in and week out.5 tough teams before the open week.

Clintwood loses their 3 best players from their 2014 team in addition to other role players.

Haysi loses 3 really good Linemen(2 way starters), QB, FB/LB(best LB in 1A West, maybe the best ever at Haysi)and other players.

Lots of talent at WR and several options at QB. There will be talent at Ridgeview, but not I-Formation power running game talent and that worries me

Maybe the Clintwood guys with experience playing tough teams can help the Haysi guys get ready to play a real schedule.

Does the CW QB return? And does CWs best player, cant remember his name, Dalton maybe, return?

  10. I'm not a narcissist, but let me tell you about a time when some person who got tired of my bull**** threatened to kick my ass and superior ol' me went just to laugh at him.

    oh-the-irony.jpeg

    Also, LOL at bolded.

Ask anyone on the old LPD Forum, China Cabinet Guy was always the aggressor and was a moron. But again, I love the fact I have you so wound up just by posting.

It was a running joke, he always challenged people to fight. The people would show, and he would never show up. Again, I dunno why you have such a hard on for me.

EDIT-Forgot I had already responded, almost made another post.

You aren't familiar with the situation obviously. This guy would ALWAYS resort to threats of physical violence, yet when many a poster went to actually confront him because, well if you think I'm an a-hole, you'd think he was Hitler, it would have been hilarious to see his reaction and he would never show up but return posting after a day or two and continue to threaten to beat everyone's ass.

The point was that everyone had a run in with China Cabinet Guy, that was my encounter with him. Ive been in one real fight my entire life, in the 7th (IIRC) grade. I have NO doubt that I would get my ass kicked by a big majority of the general population. Im a bigger guy, 6'4, 220 pounds (used to be over 300 until I got blood clots in my lungs and let it go too long and lost a lot of weight. I looked like I had AIDS, I was down to as little as 164 pounds), but I'm a lover, not a fighter.

BTW, how can you make smilies on here? HTML verison? :) :P :p  or is there another way to do it?

  11. China Cabinet dude... welcome

We all know China Cabinet Guy was from Gate City, and I have not threatened to meet someone out and BEAT THEIR DAMN ASS BY GOD.

If you remember him, you remember the time he wanted to fight me and issued a "challenge" to show up at the Park in Big Stone to fight him. I went, to laugh at the guy, he never showed.

Trumpet knows, if you guys show a little respect and we discuss issues rationally, I am a good poster.

Im pretty sure Bearcat Bob just called beautiful. I am flattered, but I am not enthralled with my image and drown staring at it. I'm not a moron, I know Greek mythology, and I am far from a narcissist, my humor is more self-depreciating but all that's happened so far is that you guys decided to gang up on me and try and make me seem foolish or irrational when I am neither.

  12. With five straight home games in the middle of the season, Ridgeview should have a good shot at a high playoff seed.

But Div. 2 is much tougher overall IMO, not as many bad teams make the playoffs like D1. What kind of talent do Haysi/CW return? The team could be loaded if both teams return most of their firepower, both were above average last year, esp. Haysi

  13. I would like to extend my most sincere apology to you.  After re-reading your posts in this thread, I realized just what an accomplished, intelligent and articulate person you are.  I mean you are the "most liberal" person here.  (Was that supposed to be a positive?)  I guess that you are now the go to guy for all things sport-wise since you have more sport knowledge than all who abound on this board.  And your posts are so clear, concise and intellectually honest that I nominate you for the position of Dean of Students of the SWVA board!

Too bad that you had to lower yourself to posting on this board...which is obviously a mere shadow of the mighty LPD board.  Tells us again why that board failed?  I am a bit puzzled why it would have faltered given you were the super poster over there.  Hopefully, the multitude of your admirers will follow you here to get their daily dose of wisdom.  Only speaking for myself here but I have certainly "learned" so much from you! Thank you for that gift!

And just imagine the heights your school would have reached on the athletic fields had you actually participated in sports!  Had you played, your school may have been able to compete with Gate City!  Just imagine that BW.  But now that I understand you a little better, I see that you did not participate because of the unfair advantage your contributions would have created.  That was very magnanimous of you!

And you guys thought I was a pain in the behind.  This gomer actually takes himself seriously.

You wanna know why the LPD Forum failed? For one, a few key members passed away. Another, the admin of the board had issues in his personal life and was unable to maintain the forum any longer.

We've went thru my athletic history, there is no doubt I am not some wannabe athlete. I played every sport until the 10th grade, and quit football my junior season because I am a moron and had issues in my life at that time. I dont take myself too seriously, you guys are the ones taking every post super seriously and trying to create issues when there are none (calling me sexist, comments about my personal life).

So who's the poster being too serious and too petty, the one defending himself or the group of posters who seem obsessed with tossing insults abound?

  14. I posted the liberal part because most likely, most of you are right-leaning political wise and I am not sexist, homophobic, racist, or any other negative accusation towards my character.

Mock me all you want, but if you ask some of the older LPD Forum posters, they will tell you that I know sports. This is a sports forum, yet all your little group of internet crusaders have talked about is me and my personality. Ask Counts or 1inStripes, I know my sports.

Im not trying to be arrogant, I am saying that I am not a sexist, Im a very liberal person who believes women deserve equal rights as men. I posted that I know sports inside out, because I thought that would steer the subject to sports. I likely do know more about random sports facts and the intricacies of a sport, I was pointing out that I would be an asset on this forum.

But if you guys are going to continue to be assholes and gang up on me, I will simply peace out and it will truly be your loss.

  15. BW...Do not feel bad...many quit playing sports when they have to move up to the varsity.  Most have already made the move up before their junior year but, hey, your okay, I am okay, we are all okay.  Okay?

By the way, I know nothing about the LPD board.  But you can be sure that thick skin, a sense of humor and a sharp wit are necessary to survive this board.  My question is if the LPD board was so awesome, why are you here?

I hope you stick around longer than you did in high school football...you will learn a thing or two about sports.  You do seem to be a bit angry and quick to temper.  Does dyspareunia run in the family by chance?

Because the LPD forum basically ceases to exist, and this is the best place to discuss local sports.

And trust me, I know sports. Inside and out. I will be surprised if anyone on here knows more sports trivia, or the intricacies of  sport/

  16. techfan hit it on the head, but its not like it was a risky preseason pick lol but still its awesome to pick something pre-season and have it come to fruition.

In the game, its gonna be tough for NE's athletically challenged WRs outside of Gronk and Lafell to get open, and the NE OL to hold up against the Seattle pass rush. The NE corners can cover the Seattle WRs for the most part, but accounting for the huge chunk plays on scrambles by Wilson could decide the game. It will be of utmost importance for the Pats that if they go man coverage to have a spy on Wilson and stress that DBs play the WRs at all times and do not let their eyes wander. Zone can help, but it also somewhat neutralizes their best defensive weapon in Revis. The NE linebackers have been great dealing with Mayo's injury, Hightower is a legit ILB (and big and strong enough to tackle Lynch in the hole) and Collins is a versatile weapon like Vrabel or Adalius Thomas used to be for them.

The key matchup is likely the NE front stopping Seattle from imposing their run game. Theres no way NE can count on Wilson throwing so many picks and play so poorly like he did in the GB game, but its also not in Seattle which makes them more vulnerable. But if Seattle can implement their will and run the ball, it will be tough for NE to control the ball long enough to match them in points and possessions to win. Vince Wilfork, Chandler Jones, and Hightower are absolutely key to stopping the run and forcing Seattle to make long third downs.

I'm rooting for a 28-24 New England win (I am a Niners fan, fuck Seattle), but a Seattle win is not a surprising outcome.

I posted this, but I obviously think the UK basketball team is so loaded and so great that they could beat NE and SEA together.
