I'm really not sure how the brackets are set up to be honest. I guess it's still possible....dont think the tournament ends until Sunday. and I've scratched my head on that one too. LaMelo is definitely a great player.....but to be a 5 star in basketball you have to be like top 15-20 in the nation and I just don't see it with him. I think its all about the hype of his brother and everything is why he's getting the nod. i mean come on.....the dude took over 30 shots against S.C. Supreme in his 1 on 1 battle with Zion. That's all that game was.....a showout between those 2 guys. Both teams scored over 100 pts so there absolutely could not have been any defense. And it's my opinion and I'll go ahead and lay it out there.....but LaMelo isn't in the same stratosphere as Zion Williamson. He's a man among children and deserves his ranking in the Top 5.

yes....the same tournament. I was wanting to see Team Loaded play either SC Supreme or Big Baller Brand to see them go up against Zion Williamson or LaMelo Ball. I seen today that Jared Dudley had alot of bad things to say about those two teams and the style the kids are playing out in Vegas in this tournament. He evidently showed up to watch the Zion and LaMelo battle. Said there was too much flash and athletic showboating and not enough fundamental ball being played by most of the kids right now....things headed in the wrong direction. (That's not verbatim from him but a condensed version) Can't remember where I seen it but it was pretty interesting what he had to say.

that would be correct....two different squads. The 17U team went 0-2 today....seemed like everyone on the team had a rough outing for the most part. The 16U team went 1-1. Both squads play tomorrow at least one game tomorrow from what i could see.

where is the other possible transfer coming from that's not from Honaker?

I spoke with someone the other day that had seen him fairly recent and they claimed he had grown since his last game played in a GC uniform. It will be interesting to see how much he has improved since his sophomore season.

now that's what I like to see from Ervin. if he gets some aggression about him in the paint and starts finishing strong around the rim it will be scary what he will do the next 2 years. I'd like to see more power plays from him around the rim to balance to out the touch he has from the perimeter. He's gonna be a nightmare to stop.

I agree with you 100%. I'm a member of rivals and keep up with college football and basketball on a daily basis (especially football) and occasionally see what 247 has going on but don't venture over much. they aren't as reliable on football recruiting anymore and I'm certain that basketball isn't much different. I didn't really put alot of stock into Macs drop on there....but I thought it was interesting to say the least and wanted to share in case some of you guys ever take a gander at their site. just as quick as Mac had 2 good games and a windmill in open court that created buzz he jumped over 150 spots and then had a couple sub-par to average games and one really solid performance and dropped 200+ spots....all within 3 weeks.

I know the tournament in Vegas is still ahead but considering Macs position ranking went from 30th PG in the nation to 70th on 247Sports in the latest evaluation and from a Top 200 player to missing out on being a Top 400 player....im guessing he either didn't play all that well over the past couple weeks or 40 other PGs just proved to be better. I can believe a drop in 40-60 spots but a drop in over 200 spots is pretty significant....someone either dropped the ball on evaluating him a month ago or he just didn't show up like a Top 200 player should.....could be a big combination of both. Edit: and it's understood that these recuriting services aren't the end all be all and they aren't absolute. just spit-balling a bit.

he gets a little more brass about him each time he's in the open court. hadn't ever seen him do a 360 even in warmups....i keep waiting for a between the legs slam from him in a game.

My first post I was obviously just having a little fun hence the "Monkey Butt" comment i made. What compelled you to analyze and throw statistics/science on something i was joking about in the first place is beyond me. If that's your MO, ill be sure to keep my chest waders handy. (only to wade right in and start slinging with you of course) Sorry fellas....didnt mean to hijack the thread. If I was being totally serious about this 30 minute change in time the only real negative i see is the precedent were setting for the future generations that education is to be put on the backburner to sports. I'm all for sports on all levels....but I'm a firm believer in the 40 year plan versus the 4-14 year plan.

well, with all due respect, it was a statement and not an excuse for anything. Calling it an excuse doesn't even make any sense in what I stated....excuse for what? I claimed it was a negative or "Con" if you will. I never used it as a reason to not go to the games so I'm not sure where your going with this one. A bit of a reach on your part. Unless you was referring to me buying stocks in Monkey Butt....in which it's a damn good excuse to do that because the sun will be blaring for an extra 30 mins of a game and in GC at Legion Field it beams down right on your face until the sun goes completely down. Furthermore, I didn't look at statistics on weather over the past century before I made a general post....but if I did Tazewell County would have nothing to do with Scott County as temperatures and humidity between the two areas do vary a bit. Also, degree of temperature change isn't alot different in that 30 min span were discussing here at kickoff....i agree with you there. But the sun will be out another 30 mins and history has it....that glowing ball of fire in the sky does make a difference in the temperature. No need for statistics to figure that one out. And lastly, for the record, in Gate City the record high for every single day in the month of October is over 80°.....with the first half of the month actually being closer to the 90° mark. I said all of this to conclude by saying.....i really don't give a rat's ass when the games start or how hot it is. I wasn't actually being serious in my previous post. I'll be in the bleachers sweating like everyone else with a slice of pizza and a smile like I have been for years.

Another negative to earlier start time is the players and fans having to fight the sun/scorching heat for an extra 30 mins. If it got cold in October like it used to this wouldn't be an issue....but it stays in the 80s all the way into and usually through October now and will make for a miserably hot and schveaty experience for 3/4 of the season. I'll go ahead and buy stocks in Monkey Butt powder now...SWVA is gonna be RIPE!

I would like the see these kids play at GC.....but I'll sit back in wait and see mode. Alot can change before school starts back. Which brings to question, how long does a student have to enroll at a new high school? I'm sure there's a dead line of sorts....im just not aware of when it needs to be done.

George has the mindset and the edge to him that you want your big man to have.... just hope he has added a little to his frame to have the body to back it up. The kid is as gritty as they come. If he had another 40 lbs to him he would be scary. I really believe he will will be one of the most improved players on the team this year.....with Ervin right along with him.

McClung and Ervin both attract plenty of attention when they drive to the bucket. If he can shoot the rock and likes playing around the perimeter then it would be no different at GC.....the basket is the same size in GC as it is in any of the 1A schools. If GC isn't going to have a true post presence (not counting out George at all....i think he will do well) then they really need to be lights out from the arc. Bring on all the shooters....they will have ample opportunity to get open looks. If George does prove to be a good post presence....then even better that GC has plenty of shooters aside from Mac, Zac, and Dean.

im the same way.....in wait and see mode. Things like this are subject to change very quickly. If it happens then thats great....if it doesn't then maybe it means they resolved some things at Honaker and that's great too.

was thinking since one of you guys made the comment about him being at almost every GC basketball game last year that he evidently didn't play....but there's a first for everything. DBs basketball team has fell off the map though due to kids transferring to play for the Greenies ....so I can see why he might not want to play for them even if he liked some Hoops

well I hate a political debacle has pushed them away from Honaker.....sadly more times than not that's the culprit for parents and kids packing up and moving to another school. But I for one am more than happy to have them come play/be a part of GC. It will be a big step up for them but if they were successful at Honaker they will fit right in at GC. It will be like playing with Robinette for them.....excpet there will be 2-3 players drawing alot of attention in Mac, Zac, and Dean. So there will be ample opportunities for them to score. Once they get to practicing with the guys and start to mesh they will be a huge asset whether it be starting or coming off the bench. GC, like most teams around the area, can use all the depth they can get. Larry maybe you could answer this for me. Does the Maxwell kid that transferred from DB play basketball too.....or is he strictly a football player?

Appreciate the info 93Tiger. I had heard only 1 kid was transferring and was told he played basketball for Honaker last year and was a solid player. so was the info I heard accurate? (minus there's 2 and not 1)

I see.....do you care to elaborate? the individual I heard this from may have just got crossed up where this transfer was coming from.
