Gate City will open next year as such: Richlands 2a constant Abingdon 3a Sullivan South TN 5a Daniel Boone TN 5a Union 2a constant. I love schedules like this.

Greeneville TN is 4a but that is beside the point.

No we have a league where we have 8 teams total, 4 varsity 4 JV. Both varsity and JV plays each team twice. They just entered a league where they combine those teams together and travel to play teams like Daniel Boone, Dobynse Bennett,Science Hill feeder programs.

I don't know anything about Richlands midget football league.

Having a strong feeder program, youth football. Is a great start.

I am not really trying to compare. I had just saw those teams in person, and have not seen Appomattox at all. Just wanted to have some hindsight on how good they may be.

Well Bigrhsfan since you know the 2010 blues well and have a glimpse or 2 of Appomattox. Are they that good?

How would this year's Appomattox team faired against: Gate City 03' 2010 Richlands 06' 2010 2014 Graham 03' Giles 2013 I was wondering since I haven't seen them play. I was looking for a good comparison.

I believe the 2010 blues and 2003 devils were a combination of both styles IMO

Since we are talking about nostalgia, what swva teams in the past 15yrs would have held their own against the coal boy teams of the 90's?

That I have no knowledge of. But Gate City played/opened the season with TN HIGH for 6-8 years and never lost to them but there was just about always an excuse.. Mainly because the "small school" beat the "big school".. Happens in all sports all the way through college.. Appalachia State vs Michigan ring a bell...

Whoever the coach was db had before current coach Clark took helm, he seemed to have the persona of were the best team in the area. And tried doing so by, scheduling the likes of ole small swa school named Gate City. We all know how that worked out.. Coach Clark likes the media to much to have scheduled anyone worthy until now because he has to!

Neither does Maryville playing alcoa, but alcoa makes them better. Not only can alcoa play with Maryville they have probably beaten them more in ten years than the rest of the state.. BTW alcoa is 3A

They were sometimes... BUT majority of the time they were not... Now that they are in a proper conference/finally having to play majority of schools with similar enrollment they will lose more, more so than the past 25 years

They also had nothing to gain by playing the likes of Sullivan central, sullivan east,sullivan north,sullivan south and volunteer for years

Well the 2010 team had the passing game as well it was pretty much pick your poison because there defense was flat out nasty... Keep in mind Gate City was missing a key component in the tailback that was out that game and it still would have been 31-7 or 31-14 instead of 3 and out all night long.. I believe we might of had 8 yards total

First off I want to congratulate Richlands on a great win you all have a excellent team.. I have been a reader on this forum for years and love it and so keep it up.. But in a past post I had read that you all believe this year's team was as good as 2010. So from an outsiders point of view I'm gonna state they are as advertised but as of right now I believe they are currently a step behind 2010. Reason why I say is because I know the team we fielded (GC) in 2010 and they would have put up more points than 7 against the current just my honest opinion anyone care to elaborate
