Galax..........by as many as they want!

Galax should have wanted a few more points evidently. You just never know in a rivalry game. One of the best games I've watched in a long time. Hats off to this Grayson bunch for a nice win.

No, presuming that 11 Galax players manage to find the stadium Friday night.

Galax somehow managed to bring their whole roster last Friday and find the stadium, but it clearly wasn't enough. Heck of a ballgame to watch. Congratulations to the Blue Devils.

  3. The problem with the bermuda field at Grayson County has been some maintenance issues, which I'm told has now been addressed, but also soccer. Looks like they practice in the same spots everyday which kill big patches of the grass. At least they could move around some seems like.

I have been to several baseball games over the past few years where Grayson has had impressive crowds for a sport most schools consider an afterthought.  I will agree with you about the new district alignment.  Travel increases will be substantial when compared to the MED.

An impressive crowd at a baseball game is nice and I'm glad that there was to support the players. The original point you were making was GC baseball attendance was routinely higher than GC football attendance, not home vs. visiting attendance. But your assessment that there are more people who routinely attend Grayson baseball games (only home fans or combined) than Grayson football games (only home fans or combined) is just simply not accurate. As a lifelong Grayson Co. fan I will continue to support both programs and hope each success.

  5. "Grayson County has a rich tradition in baseball and from 1988 to (i believe) 2009, lost something like 4 district games total.  They have averaged 2 loses per season since 2009, including several to Galax, a first in school history.  Most see that as a lack of competitiveness within the district dragging them down.  That assessment is probably accurate to be honest.  MED isn't much of a baseball district outside of Grayson County.  Don't underestimate how important baseball is to Grayson County citizens.  The baseball games routinely outdraw football games and, for the most part, by a large margin."

I agree baseball is important in Grayson but lets not get carried away here. They don't outdraw them, especially by a large margin? I think the new district will be interesting for all sports except the travel will be a nightmare. But everyone knows who still pays overall the athletic bills and that's the football program, which yes comes from attendance.

In all seriousness I really hope both Grayson and Richlands can come up with the funds for new stands. I know how important it was for me to be able to see the bleachers filled with classmates and family when I played and would hate for those kids to miss that because of lack of funds.

From what I've heard from the Grayson people who went to Richlands this year the two are in a little different situation. From the huge home side, field turf, huge field house, etc. the visitor bleachers would just apparently finish off their super nice facilities. Grayson needs these updates to literally function and provide a safe place for players and fans. You can only kick the can down the road so far until there's nothing left of the can...which is what is going to happen to our football facilities eventually...then that will cost them even more.

  7. It is a shame that Grayson has allowed the bleachers to get so bad.  Maybe this is what it took for them to actually invest something into to football program.  The lights also need to be replaced seeing how they are leaning to an ugly and dangerous level and also after they went out at halftime during a game and stayed off for about 3 hours. Having been in Grayson my whole life I don't want to hear about not having money for it. Other schools similar to Grayson have gotten grants and other funding for these types of projects. So far it just hasn't been a priority. Sounds like thanks to the new superintendent and some of the new school board members it now will be finally.

  8. They were also undefeated when they played Glenvar. They've had the steam taken out of them since then. They gave up a lot of points to Graham and Galax. Narrows also had Grayson beat, but then had some key injuries and then Grayson walked away with it after that

Narrows had Grayson beat??? Not sure what you were watching or heard but not true. Not sure what "key injuries" you're talking about either. Grayson started a little slow but was never in doubt.
