  1. Mitchell wasn't himself,he dropped a couple of balls and just didn't seem himself.Ithink he is a little down not getting the ball as much,he is always double covered so maybe that's why.I just wonder if the whole recruiting thing is wearing him down,he was on his way to Va Tech today,I say if that's your dream follow it young man,if Beamer was still there he would have already commited.
  2. Mine---Richlands,Abington, Union,Graham,Galax
  3. Clintwood had Unions number, The folks and kids from Roseridge want a big win....if Union gets caught napping...look out.Union is beat up some , Zirkle I think has a bad ankle. I would look for Owens 17 to see more touches and for Mitchell to see a lot of bald thrown his way
  4. Ok guys, 71 Collins is out this week, Mullins is out too,but they still scored against Let her county. With that said I say the starters ride the bench after halftime, unless things need work on offence
  5. if Graham blizzes up the middle, it will be handled,if the ends come hard....look out.JLA needs to roll out and set up on the outside,or take off, if he is healthy, either way he needs some time.i would suggest a step or two deeper in the spread or middle screens, bothe will help.
  6. I WILL GO WITH RICHLANDS IN A SHOOTOUT,JLA PASSES FOR 300YRDS
  7. nothing like putting up hay ,to build a young man....work SUCKS
  8. I have found out a long time ago that an age doesn't mean anything in being mature.I was stomping around Beirut in 1983 and there were much younger Marines than me there also.We have picked up,cleaned ,cooked and insisted that most of our kids let us pay for things ,that way they don't have to work .If they need to mature, maybe we need to do that at home, another year on the tax payers dime will not make them grow up,only we can. There are a lot of veterans out there that will agree, wars are fought by 17, and 18 yr olds and ROSS ANDREW MCGINNIS WAS BARELY 19 when he won the MEDAL OF HONOR. So maturity doesn't come with age, just responsibility.if a kid gets hurt or sick or his grades need improving,by all means let him repeat that grade ,but not because the shelf is stocked full of all state QBs this year, and we need him next year.Again I point to Thomas JONES, 17 YRS OLD when he went to UVA and 19 when he received his degree.
  9. you got that right, all bullets.i was saying on the longer throws he was a little high and overthrew, but who knows he may have seen good coverage and just got rid of it.he will only get better, just as he did against us and I pitty graham if he starts out like he finished against union
  10. I AGREE WITH SIXCAT,the local kids who go on to college and the pro's who have not been held back do better.yeah a 18-19 competeing against younger kids in high school do better but then they have to compete against they same age kids in college not so good.at times maybe an injury slows them down and they need to be held back, but the majority need to stay with their class and compete against their age group
  11. this is a funny story, but true. several years ago Powell Valley retired Thomas Jones' jersey, on of the speaker was no other than PHIL ROBBINS, he went on and on about all the things THOMAS JONES had done while in high school and while at the UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA and being a first round draft choice. ROBBINS told THOMAS had done all these things before age 19, he then said just think THOMAS if you would have went to GATE CITY you would now be a SENIOR!!!LIKE HIM OR NOT THATS SOME FUNNY STUFF THERE.
  12. i asked a question in a earlier post--is john luke hurting?i had no responce, i guess i have my anwer.i wasnt trying to get anything going but just a simple question----the graham scout noticed it too.he can still throw a fastball15-25 yards, his normal accurcy was off somewhat
  13. is jla hurting, I watched last year and it seems to me that his throwing motion is different, seems to be releasing the ball a lot higher up on the deep routes, just wondering?
  14. I told you it would be full house all night, keep away ,no ball=no score .simple simple simple.great game really enjoyed it, would have enjoyed it more if I could have gotten one of those hotdogs, dang guys 10000 people and 2 concessions, all near each other.hope both teams win out, but if its the same to you lets skip the near 1000 mile round trip for the semi finals ok?
  15. This area has always pulled for one another as the other teams go on, I know that the union fans were pulling for the blues against appo, and they pulled for appo. after they lost to Clarke county.back in the day of the lpd,our coaches refused to give game films to the other regions because they wanted the championship back in this area, heck tom turner scouted for powell valley several times after the bulldogs were out of it.i think both travis turner and the regions coaches are well liked and respected, they put fine young men on the field that someday will make fine citizens.both programs always show class, no cheap shots, a great game to watch...oh to be 17 again and to be able to suit up again.i will be there Friday night cheering for the bears, I told the boys to go down Bullet Park and take some of that burmuda with them, rub it on their pants, and maybe some of the magic will go with them. john luke I hope you throw for 4000 yrds, starting the third week of the season, just not Friday.
  16. SORRY TO OFFEND WITH THE CAP LOCKS,JUST TO LAZY TO DO OTHERWISE.NOT YELLING AT ALL ,I GUESS SOME NERD SELF APPOINTED ENGLISH LIT MAJOR CAME UP WITH THAT ONE. so now I guess I am whispering right?next thing I know I will hear you saying "hiliary for president.sorry if you thought I was yelling, but I am 55 and in my day we wrote letters and a computer was used at NASA.noaks I still believe you could have walked on at tech, or north Carolina and made the team.my point has always been that our kids in southwest va don't get enough credit, yeah a smaller school with bigger hearts. whitten ,jones, carroll ,and heath miller all played in the super bowl , so that in itself speaks volumes of the quality of young men that play here, also the number of state champions here in southwest va
  17. THOMAS JONES HEARD THE SAME THINGS,HE IS A BIG FISH IN A SMALL POUND, HE WILL NEVER SEE THE FIELD, SAME WAS HEARD ABOUT HIS BROTHER WHEN HE WENT TO N. DAME.THESE KIDS HAVE SHOWED THAT THEY ARE WINNERS WITH GREAT WORK ETHICS,THE BLUES HAVE HAD PLAYER GO ON TO THE NEXT LEVEL AND DONE GREAT, I DARE SAY IF D. JOHNSON WOULD HAVE BEEN HEALTHY HE WOULD NOT ONLY HAVE MADE THE ROSTER AT CAROLINA , HE WOULD START. WE HAVE TO REMEMBER THESE ARE HIGHSCHOOL KIDS, THEY WILL GROW INTO THE YOUNG MEN JUST LIKE THE ONES PLAYING IN COLLEGE. I HOPE JLA GOES TO TECH OR VA OR TENN. I WILL BE BRAGGING THAT I SAW HIM PLAY IN HIGH SCHOOL. HE MAY NOT BE MICHAEL VICK, BUT HELL MICHAEL VICK DIDNT LOOK THAT WAY IN HS EITHER.THE KID FROM GRAHAM IS A BEAST, AND YES VA HE WILL BE PLAYING FOR A D-1 SCHOOL, ALONG WITH MITCHELL.
  18. AS I LOOK AT THINGS EVERYONE KNOWS THAT JLA WILL HAVE A BIG NIGHT,QUESTION IS HOW WILL BAILEY TURNER DO?HE HAS HIS DADS ARM(WHEN TRAVIS WAS IN 10TH GRADE)AND HE IS COACHED 24/7 BY DAD.I BELIEVE THAT THE RUN GAME FROM UNION WILL EITHER WIN OR LOSE THE GAME, IF THEY RUSH FOR 250 OR BETTER UNION WINS BECAUSE 3 OR 4 YARDS AT A TIME EATS ALOT OF CLOCK AND WEARS DOWN THE "D" AND THATS ABOUT 83 PLAYS FROM SCRIMMAGE.JLA WILL PASS FOR ABOUT 300 YARDS BUT THOSE "BIG" PLAYS ONLY USE A LITTLE OF THE CLOCK.NEITHER TEAM CAN AFFORD A TURNOVER AS THE OTHER TEAM WILL SCORE.I CAN SEE UNION HAVING LONG SCORING DRIVES AND JUST WHEN RICHLANDS LOADS THE BOX AND DOUBLE COVERS MITCHELL TURNER WILL HIT JENKINS ON A STREAK FOR THE GAME WINNER
  19. I haven't missed a game in two years for the bears, all things being equal the blues win it on paper, but heart plays a big part of any battle.it will come down to a play or two. last Thursday, turner tried out some real young kids on defense, some worked some didn't ,I would look for a stronger defensive showing by the bears with them trying to rattle the qb, I think the bears playing keep away and MITCHELL being in the backfield all night is the only way we have a shot
  20. new here ,but I have observed this board for years. One thing I know that never changes, both Union and Richlands are very well coached(except the D at Clarke county game was very in-prepared.Both Union and Richlands had bad nights last week but I would expect both teams to bring their A-game Friday. I would expect balls to be sailing all over the place for Richlands and a lot of the fullhouse backfield for Union, dont be surprised to see MITCHELL lining up as d-end to chase down your q-back with a dime package in the secondary.i know that opens up the run but I guess you have to pick your poison right. I have seen some great games between UNION and RICHLANDS ,and I expect the same Friday night....oh yeah better watch Owens number 17 from Union he is a playmaker, kinda like Noaks was last year
