I'm going with Lee. Lebanon gave Wise Central a good game. I thought Central would win with no problems but obviously Lebanon gave them problems. Lee seems to not be great but good in every area which makes them dangerous in ways. Lee by a touchdown.
I'm taking Burton. I was surprised by how they perform against Twin Springs. I thought they would win with ease. As far as the Cumberland District goes, its between Burton, Castlewood or Twin Springs.
I favor Abingdon cause their passing game is really good and I'm not sure how Graham will defend that. If Abingdon's coaches and QB Sturgill has seen the Richlands game tape then they may find a weakness in Graham's passing coverage defense and exploit that.
I don't wanna brag too much here but I called it in post 11. Lol. I had the feeling that Richlands passing game was going be too much for VHS and I was right. Their QB and WR's are a lot to handle. You never know how Richlands is going start a game but you know how their going finish. Them and Abingdon is going to be interesting!
Seems Grundy has improved a lot over the past couple seasons. Particularly on Defense! On to Wise next week to play Grundy's former Offensive Lineman, 4x Wrestling State Champ and Virginia Tech Hokie player Luke Owens team for another tough game. Wouldn't mind seeing a 6-0 Grundy heading across the mountain to Rebel Country to play a 5-0 Hurley team in two weeks!
Hahaha NO Mullins is still the head. And if Mullins ever did get fired or couldn't continue coaching for any reason then James Colley is coming to the rescue!
Buchanan Co. school board and supervisors or some wealthy coal company should have took action years ago when the economy was good and installed turf for Grundy and Hurley. Those fields are a mess at the end of the season!!! Field conditions where so bad for Grundy back in the 96 season the VHSL forced Grundy to move their state semifinal game from Grundy to Tazewell. I think it's hard to top those fields. Definitely those last three or four games of the season.
Eastside is just going through a rough patch. They've beat Central and played Lee close in the past and even this year they gave Hurley a game in the first half so dropping those schools wouldn't do much for them. Maybe they can pick up Twin Valley, Holston, Northwood or go to TN or KY and pick up somebody.
Anybody heard if Central has their QB and RB back this week? If they do then Central should win with no problems. But if they don't then Lebanon could possibly get the win or at least contend with them, making this an interesting game.
Honaker loss to Lebanon 37-14. Grundy beat Lebanon 19-14. If you go by that Grundy should win by four TD's. I think Honaker has improved and gained some confidents in their last two games, but neither Eastside or Holston has the talent level Grundy has either. Honaker's defense is still suspect and that's what would worry me if I was a Honaker fan. I won't be surprised if Honaker won but I'm going be bold and pick Grundy 20-17.
Yeah James Colley was one of the top in coaches in SW VA. He's up there with Greg Mance as one of the best strategy coaches in the game! I've actually never seen Mance or Colley get out coached. Every game they loss was cause the other team was just overall more athletic.
If RV doesn't make the playoffs and say they lose most of their games left does than mean James Colley will maybe replace Rick Mullins? I'm not a fan of placing all the blame on coaches but I could the Haysi folks and maybe some Clintwood folks wanting to go in that direction.
Big district game for both teams! Winner will play Hurley for the BDD title. Honaker won 54-0 last year. Does Grundy got what it takes to get over the Honaker hurdle this season?
This should come down to the end like last season. I'm not sure what Lee has other than Rasnic. Lee does seem decent on both sides of the ball though. Ridgeview is 1-3 but has loss to some really good teams. Should be a good challenge for both teams.
Battle's got some hard nosed kids. Winning two in a row and the way they outplayed Lebanon in the second half last week showed how bad they wanted it. Henry's got an explosive offense and I'm not 100% Battle will have what it takes to stop that. Going with PH.
This possibly will be a speed vs. speed high scoring offensive shootout. These teams have crossed paths at the perfect time too. Graham really wants to come out after blowing that Richlands game and make a statement. And Giles wants to make a statement after their bad performance against Narrows. Graham has Abingdon next so they don't wanna go in against them dropping two in a row. And Giles has Galax and Glenvar back to back after this. Defiantly a lot riding on this game for both teams.
Gate City's QB is no question one of the best players on the field and in SWVA in general. Very skilled and fun to watch! Unfortunately for GC Union overall is just more well-rounded this season. GC plays a killer schedule and they're a better team than what they're record shows.
I can see VHS coming out strong early and rattling some Richlands cages. But then Richlands wakes up in the 2nd and starts dominating from there on. Can't see VHS covering that Richlands passing game. Too many weapons in that Blues O! Richlands 45-14.
If the same Giles that struggled with Narrows shows up to play Graham then the G-Men should have this one wrapped up by the half. But its Giles so who knows. Lol
