  1. The Rest of Virginia 2A Scores Tonight and Who They Match Up With Next Week Region C Glenvar (1) 38-0 over Dan River (8) Giles (3) beat Fort Chiswell (6) 35-13 Appomattox (2) beat Martinsville (7) 49-23 Floyd County (4) beat Gretna (5) 35-12 Next Week, Glenvar hosts Floyd County and Appomattox hosts Giles as all 4 top seeds remain Region B Clarke County (1) beat Strasburg (8) 63-20 RE Lee Staunton (3) beat George Mason (6) 49-21 Luray (4) beat East Rockingham (5) 29-13 Central Woodstock (2) beat Buffalo Gap (7) 42-14 Next Week, Clarke County hosts Luray and Central Woodstock hosts RE Lee as all 4 top seeds remain Region A Goochland (1) beat Brunswick (8) 42-8 Amelia County (5) beat Nottoway (4) 18-15 Poquoson (2) beat Bruton (6) 62-0 Greensville (3) beat King William (6) 40-12 Next week, Goochland hosts Amelia County and Poquoson hosts Greensville. This region, along with Region D's Marion and Grayson, are the only non-top 4 seeds to have a winner, as both Marion (5) and Amelia County (5) beat their respective 4 seeds. The biggest 2A upset going by numbers-seeding only, is in SWVA in Region D as the 3 seed lost to the 6 seed with Ridgeview/Grayson.
  2. Nice win for Union. Congrats to the Bears on a great win. Those close types of wins can get a team very motivated. I wouldn't want to be Marion. I know Marion is pretty good, but they are about to run into a buzzsaw.
  3. All but over in Bristol. Touchdown Marion, up 2 TD's with about 3 minutes left.
  4. 4:30 left in the game. Marion ball, 2nd and 9 at the Virginia High up 14-7, and VH commits a personal foul, gives Marion a first down at the VH 24.
  5. Interception coming up and Richlands season is over. Union's playing cover 2 with a backer eyeing the QB for the run. If Richlands runs in this series, it will be with the QB, not a RB, and Union has a linebacker waiting for it, and playing pass all the way.
  6. The difference in this game has and will be two key things... Richlands went away from the running game on 2nd and 3rd downs from 4-5 yds out for the first since the second quarter. Johnson never touched the football on offense in the 2nd half.
  7. Additionally, #44 for Richlands has not carried the ball once in the second half.
  8. If Mance just runs the ball one time last series, there's now 2 minutes and 10 seconds left.
  9. Another 2nd and 6, and guess what....a pass. Why, Why, and Why again? That's on Mance.
  10. Richlands, RUN the ball. You may not score, but RUN the ball and kill clock and stop it with the passing. If they stop you 3 times, then they stop you 3 times.
  11. Giles 28, Fort Chiswell 7, about 9 minutes left in game.
  12. Appomattox exploded on Martinsville, 35-10 with 8 minutes left in 3rd quarter.
  13. Watch for Mitchell to make a big play. Bigtime D1 players often make game changing games in these situations. Richlands better be careful.
  14. Not over yet dude, lots of football left, but I hope the Blues win it. Richlands needs to stay run. I still don't like the 2 passes of 3 downs. Kill the clock and play d
  15. The last 3 drives for Richlands, 3rd and 5's, and passing the ball, no runs. Remember that stat. Since the early 2nd qtr, Richlands has yet to run the ball on 3rd down, and those 3rd downs have been 3rd and 4's to 3rd and 5's.
  16. Appo adds a score late in 2nd, leads 28-10 over Martinsville at halftime.
  17. Question for you since you asked a terse question, therefore; let me be equally as terse in the spirit of GC. Can you read? Truly, can you read? Why the question? The source in which the talent is down at Graham in 2019 compared to where it is now is coming directly from Your own fans. Scroll back over the last 3 months on this board or another board (I will not mention in far SWVA) and the source comes from Your fans. Therefore, let me ask you, are your fans psychic? Or to use your words, "how can anyone know what a team looks like in two years." Your response to my post is valid and just, but it would be more valid and just if you apply it to your own fans. By all indicators of your fans, your talent in fact, will not be in 2019 what it is this year or next, and yes, you better have a staff that can truly coach, or it will show. It will also show if the staff is solid and Graham wins 8 or 9 of 10 regular season games in 2019. That's all I'm saying and you know it's a true statement.
  18. I can answer. I hope Graham hires nobody extra. I hope they stay the course with the coaching staff, especially on the offensive side of the ball, and on the offensive line. I just hope some of you Graham fans are as hyped in 2019 (when the talent runs out and the team will truly need to be well, well coached to win) as compared to how hyped you are now. I would trade GC's 1-9 for Graham's 9-1 anyday! But, you are winning with talent, not by out-scheming the opponent, at least not on the offensive side of the ball. As for Graham, the poster is correct in my opinion in one area and on a serious note. Major help is needed with that bunch offensively and with mental toughness Getting a huge lead or very fast start only to lose or nearly lose has become common in Bluefield, and that speaks to mental toughness, which speaks to coaching. If you are going to lose, lose right! Lose by 40 points like we do at GC!
  19. I agree with you, but there is a difference in insight and honest discussion versus true hatred for a program and piling on at every opportunity. There's a big difference. Some non GC fans have posted with honest insight and with the attempt at true dialogue in these GC threads, but a few have taken another route. And again in this thread, you have a poster (same one in UVAobserver) offering nothing to the discussion. It's a simple example of childish behavior.
  20. Not talking about Herron, and shouldn't have wrote 5A Georgia. I was using that as an example of a big school in the South. Nope, I'm not talking about Herron, and I'm not talking about Georgia either. Lets just say South of Gate City and a much larger school. Time will tell. The issue to be worked out? The exact same thing we are talking about in this thread. Assistants, paid, unpaid, how many, etc.?
  21. The best way to attack Union is to use your strong points. The strong points for Richlands is the offensive line and 44, not the QBs or WR's. This means, run the ball, and if you lose, then you lose. But, passing and 7 step drops aren't going to beat Union. From a perspective of Richlands, it's not about whether "Richlands can or will beat Union". It's about what give Richlands the best chance to win.
  22. It's similar in all of the United States or Southwest Va, unless you have a staff that has been there for 25 years, etc and has had success, or it's a large school in a city that is a football power or in the South and a large school who have a huge booster club that can pay the money. These teachers who are paid and on staff are almost always, not the personal choices of the Head Coaches. With that said, the majority aren't, but usually, you have 1 who is, and this can usually be worked with by local school boards even at smaller schools in our area that will give the Head Coach 1 assistant of choice and paid, but imagine a Head Coach coming to Gate City from a 5A Georgia School (already in the works by the way, but lets save that for post 10 months from now) and you say, I want Assistant A, B, and C, and they need to be paid. It's not happening. He will likely get 1,and the rest are the folks already on staff and teaching, or whoever he can get to volunteer. This reinforces the point that it's critically important to get the right Head Coach that can "coach up" is assistants, of which 80% of them aren't going to be his first personal choice. With that written, I'm interested in Graham in 2019 when the talent runs out. We'll see if UVAobserver or EH31 have the same comments about the G-Men as they have had about Gate City. Graham's on the clock....meaning....a state title or state title appearance is either in the next 5 weeks or next year, because after that (2019) we are going to see just how good Graham's Head Coach is and those assistants are. If 2019 is a solid season, then it will tell much about the coach, but if 2019 is a poor season, it may tell us much more about the Head Coach. Why bring this up? Because UVAObserver felt the need to chime in about a Gate City discussion (again); therefore, I simply returned the favor (again).
