  1. Congratulations to the Union Bears players, coaches, and support staff on an impressive performance and best of luck going forward this season!

  4. Make your voice heard. SCOTT COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD MEETING TUESDAY 10/3/17 6:30pm 276-386-6118 Members: David Templeton 276-386-2909 David.Templeton@scottschools.com Stephen Sallee 276-386-3301 Steve.sallee@scottschools.com Linda Gillenwater 276-452-4124 Linda.gillenwater@scottschools.com Bill Quillen Bill.quillen@scottschools.com These are the members that represent parents / students attending GCHS and its feeder schools. It is time, as a community, to respectfully and appropriately address our concerns.
  5. GC had 26 players dressed out? For real??
  6. To my knowledge, it is. I believe Harlan, Ky had us 41-6 for the previous low.
  7. I didn't mean you were saying that, my bad. Worst halftime deficit in school history.
  8. Just be careful not to blame the gentleman who's job it is to design the offense and get the the kids ready to play. Its just lack of talent + meanies on a message board; let's give him another 10 years and hope he learns how to do the job he was hired to do.
  9. Or maybe fans of Graham, Radford, etc. need to stop gas lighting. The fact is GC fans arguing amongst themselves about the actual team is virtually non existent and NO ONE had been anything less than supportive of the PLAYERS. Reread the thread and you will see near universal agreement from GC fans that there is not a talent issue. Bottom line: If you're not from Union or GC, go look at your own damn thread; we do not presently, have never, and will never care about the opinions or expectations of outsiders. We are GC.
  10. UVAObserver: I haven't looked at the Graham \ Central thread one time. I'm not a fan of either school and have no dog in the hunt. Fans of those two fine schools could be saying all sorts of things I do not agree with, but I wouldn't know. Take a hint, friendo.
  11. This is a hypothetical answer to a hypothetical question, but: Coach Colobro would have developed an offense tailored to the skill set of his kids. He never fielded an offense this inept in his career. He would have a defensive coordinator and assistant coaches that he trusted to do their jobs. He would not attack kids personally. He would not be contacting kids the week before the first game promising starting positions with total disregard to the guys that have been showing up all off season \ summer. Fundamentals would be sound. Discipline would be present. I guarantee, under Colobro, this group competes with Richlands and Abingdon, maybe beats South. I have zero doubt that Colobro would have this team in the playoffs.
  12. Its completely understandable why fans of programs that play GC would want Akers to stay.
  13. Take this reply, for example: not a GC person, but some random person with no idea what's really going on trying to stick their finger in the pie. The simple answer is that the current situation is a talent issue without understanding the real issues. This is not GC infighting, this is an uninformed message board know it all trying to argue about something in which they know nothing about. Look with your own eyes, listen with your own ears, and be careful who you listen to.
  14. I've heard legends about GC's first trip to Sandlick after they dropped to single A...
  15. Now hold on... 1. 'EVERYBODY' isn't 'turning on' each other. There was a disagreement about bench presses, and another about T vs. Wishbone formations. There is some debate as to whether Akers should get another year or go at the end of the season, but that's pretty civil. The poster arguing with me about bench presses argues with everyone about everything, it's pretty much her M.O. That's certainly not Everybody. 2. We don't need to Hope. We need to expose the insurmountable evidence that the current coach was a bad hire and needs to go asap. Colobro has expressed desire to be a HC again, perhaps offer him a 'Head Coach Emeritus' position, let him choose the HC in waiting, and give him 4 or 5 years to train his replacement with a presence in the program after he turns over the reigns. Let Akers coach special teams and tennis at Rye Cove.
  16. Ewing to Richlands is what, a 3.5 hour drive? Yikes...
  17. Same here. I've talked to multiple current and former players, as well as parents. Akers' relationships and interactions with players are so toxic they are virtually irredeemable. It has little to do with Xs and Os. Strong possibility that this will be his last semester at GC.
  18. When did GC start fielding travel teams? Are they the same kids that play for the Rams / Packers / Colts / Skins? How are the middle school teams doing?
  19. Each side of Legion Field holds 2500. I think they were approved to let another 2500 in to stand, not sure if that is still the case. GC has definitely had crowds around that 7500 mark, but not recently. I believe they offer up 2000 season passes with reserved seating and they go FAST, with legacy buyers getting first dibs to renew each year. If I'm not mistaken, 500 seats on the scoreboard end are reserved for the band / student section. Visiting fans generally stick to the parking lot end of the south grandstands to the tunnel. From the tunnel to the field house you will generally find GC fans that can't / don't buy season tickets. I don't believe they are any more vocal than the home side fans, but due to the setup they happen to be right on top of the visiting team. I've seen many interesting interactions between GC fans and opposing coaches / players. It's generally in good fun; I've never seen a fight between fans.
  20. I'm curious about the state of GC's LL, middle school, and JV teams. How have they performed? How many kids are coming out? Does the 'LL program receive any input from the high school staff?
  21. The level of dysfunction is unprecedented, but it sure as hell is not the fault of disgruntled fans posting on a messages board. I agree that the talent level on the 2017 GC squad isn't championship caliber but it is certainty not 1-9 or 0-10 caliber, either. We have been dominated by 3 teams who are all having down years. We are likely about to be dominated by a good team with a patchwork offense. We will be the underdog against Ridgeview, Battle, and Lee. Should Central find an adequate replacement at QB we will be an underdog against them, too. People that care about the program are speaking out in an attempt to expose the obvious problem. Throw all the shade you want, but if the program that you love was being derailed by a cabal of idiots, you would speak up too.
  22. Some chump was saying I'm Gary Collier and talked a bunch of trash. Accused LHL of bringing down the program. Pure nonsense; you didn't miss much.
  23. Though I'm sure GC will be underdogs in 4 of their final 5, I still believe they can get it going and slip in. Obviously, they'll need some breaks to go their way. Getting a few injured kids back will be key. Lot of ball left!
  24. Tremendously talented kid that played the game the right way. Best of luck going forward.
